Anyone watching? I like Jenna Coleman, but not sure we need another child grooming story. Also hadn't realised there were two different time scales!

Calendargirl Tue 16-Jul-24 08:34:38

I watched the first half hour, felt tired, didn’t really ‘engage’ with the storyline or characters, and went to bed.

Jenna Coleman looked too young for the job and the daughter.

I see she is one of the executive producers, to me, that doesn’t often seem to bode well for the programme, don’t know why.

Self indulgent somehow?

Too many teen based dramas on TV at the moment. They need spacing out.

sodapop Tue 16-Jul-24 08:59:26

I agree about Jenna Coleman Calendargirl she looks too young.
I also found the dialogue difficult to follow at times.

There's obviously a big pool of young female actors recently out of drama school to play the parts of all these teenage girls.

Granmarderby10 Tue 16-Jul-24 09:06:41

I took some while to “click” that the story was being relayed in the past and present day timeline. Had to rewind
Also quite dareing in parts.

Granmarderby10 Tue 16-Jul-24 09:10:05

I think mums who had their baby young do seem younger later. From my own experience.

An interesting take on policing:' we very rarely solve arson cases so there is no point in wasting police time and pandering to your entitlement' to the burnt-out boat house owner who was a wealthy Londoner rather than a local so not even entitled to courtesy.
An awful lot of eating on the go with fingers out of cardboard boxes (to show how hard they work) and generally scruffy dressing because the public clearly don't deserve any respect.
Poor.

I watched it for half an hour or so, but was underwhelmed so switched over to something else. It's too much of the same old, same old. I like Jenna Coleman but found this uninspiring.

Charleygirl5 Tue 16-Jul-24 09:57:27

I watched for 15 minutes, did not enjoy it, fell asleep so I will not bother.

Oh! I am planning to start watching it this afternoon.

Callistemon213 Tue 16-Jul-24 10:47:17

Jenna Coleman is 38 and Ruby Stokes is 23.
🤔

Thanks. I won't now!

We enjoyed it but really struggled with hearing it.

Namsnanny Tue 16-Jul-24 17:11:52

J Coleman's character would only be around 32 if her daughter was 15y.
I thought I heard her say she was 17 when pregnant?
The actress playing the daughter looks too old to me.
Not keen on this type of story line, as we have had a glut of similar ones, but considering it is 'summer' and not a lot on I will give it another go.

There are a lot of complaints about the sound:
www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-13637565/BBC-Jetty-slammed-opening-episode-fans-rage-audio-issues-Jenna-Coleman.html

We've had threads about TV sound before and apparently they really don't check the sound quality any more before transmission. And it's been going on for years!

Remember Jamaica Inn (BBC 2014) which had very poor reviews due to mumbling dialogue and sound issues. So this has been going on for at least 10 years. Absolutely pathetic BBC, get your act together. What is the point of spending loads of money making a drama series if the sound is abysmal. It's just as important as the picture.

What the hell was the stable scene about with the horse. 🤦🏼‍♀️

BlueBelle Tue 16-Jul-24 17:27:38

Fell asleep 😴 it was slow so far dreary
I thought the actress’s looked about 12 so found it really hard to believe in her

Clawdy Tue 16-Jul-24 17:43:14

Yes, that stable scene was weird and cringey!

Calendargirl Tue 16-Jul-24 17:50:06

In Corrie, Sarah looks about the same age as her daughter Bethany.

Mind you, I think she was meant to be about 13 when pregnant.

If the stable scene was what I thought it was then the BBC has reached new depths of depravity.
