Wicked Little Letters Netflix from yesterday.

Watched it tonight. Agree with you it is very good. Brace yourself for the swearing though!

I did enjoy it to an extent but was , as usual, taken aback by the 'colour blind' casting that struck very jarring notes for me. Fine to reflect modern day populations in modern day films and dramas but just wrong to transpose them to 1920s small town dramas.

I enjoyed this, partly because my brother is a film extra and was in it 3 times.
Great acting as you would expect from the cast, and a fascinating story.

There were so many more subtle aspects to the story that were rather lost in the blunt attempts as humour and pushing a feminist agenda. Olivia Coleman was excellent. So smug. Timothy Spall was amazing as her dreadful father. I'd rather have seen a more psychological approach to how this woman was driven to such a mental state. So soon after WW1 and the flu epidemic. There's reference to her being the youngest of nine. What happened to the others?
However, the film makers focused on the bad language and cheap laughs and anachronistic casting.

Aveline you are spot on. Shame they cheapen a good story in a cause, of what Im not sure. Personally I can only tolerate so many f words before I switch off, which I did. So thank you for helping me realise Im glad did.

I found the casting very strange as it didn't reflect the times. It somewhat detracted from the film.

It was definitely different but I enjoyed it.

I liked it but it really was too sweary. I had to turn the volume down as my neighbours kids are off school 😂

I thought this was a poor adaptation of the true story and just not funny. Just because Olivia Coleman is in it doesn't mean it's going to to be great - just like Empire of Light and The Favourite which also were disappointing.

Watched this at the cinema quite a while ago. Don't remember too much about it other than disappointment. I have never been a fan of Olivia Coleman but do think Timothy Spall is an excellent actor.

If it’s all swearing I won’t be watching it.

Agree. I also agree the casting was colour blind, there seems to be a general trend to do this nowadays, ( Bridgestone et al) but it didn’t worry me…there is always a lot of poetic licence taken in films, tv and fiction to make them a little more exciting and interesting.
If you wanted a documentary then don’t watch this.
I thoroughly enjoyed it … and the swearing was an essential part of the plot!
I thought Olivia Coleman did an excellent job of being a repressed woman, under the family’s thumb ( particularly her god fearing selfish father) driven to ‘mild’ insanity! I think ‘ Rose’was a little OTT though, if fun to watch, far too ‘modern’.
As a whole a very enjoyable hour and a half or so!

Rather mixed feelings on this one. The Irish character seemed a little " hammy" for want of a better word.

We went to the cinema on our 1 feee sky tickets - Vue cinema was the busiest we’ve seen, lots of 50, 60plus and lots of laughter.
I enjoyed it although there was lots of ‘bad’ language …good morale of the story not to judge a book by its cover etc !

The bad language was so over the top that it was ridiculous and certainly didn’t offend me. After years of watching and hearing the f word being slung around in popular films it was a refreshing change. Loved it.

Cheap laughs. An interesting story wasted.

I didn't like it at all. I didn't find any of the characters believable - although Gladys probably played it best.

I found little humour in it "black" or otherwise. The plot line was pretty obvious from about 10 minutes in.

And I couldn't get away from Constable Pipperwick being Prince William and Rose's barrister being Prince Harry in "The Windsors".

And I had such high hopes for it.
