Who watched this last night on Channel 5?

Second part tonight.

Must admit my eyes closed the last 20 minutes or so, will have to re-watch that bit.

Wish it had been 8.00-9.30 instead of 9.00-10.30.

Thought it seemed reasonably ‘balanced’.

We’ve cancelled, too and so have a couple of our close friends. Mainly because there is nothing worth watching anymore though. Plus it costs more than it used to.

Film coverage of their trip will all be on Netflix. Sigh.

We cancelled Netflix when they paid H&M for the scandal story.

You chaps really do hate these two people who you have never met!

No, we don’t ‘hate’ them and they’re in the public eye enough so we don’t have to have met them. We dislike what they’re doing on the back of Harry’s royal position. We are still indirectly financing them and they continue to do immeasurable harm to their families.

I am not sure. press coverage of their visit to Columbia has been limited and either bemused or critical.

Wher will they go next North Korea? Russia? (to try and bring peace)? Libya?

Reporters have not been allowed near them. They’ve had their own filming and reporting under their control. So much for their attempts to be so ‘down with the people’.

That will explain why what has been in the papers has been limited, bemused or critical.

Seems counterproductive to me as no reputable news source is going to just use carefully edited material issued by the Sussexes. They will want to garner their own material - and if they cannot get it, they will just ignore them or be critical.

Ah, that explains the rictus smile and eyes wide open; editorial control. No natural expressions; Meghan 'mega-watt radiant' at all times, vacuous Harry looking increasingly uncomfortable.

I know it sounds like a cliché and I suppose it is, but he was such a happy young bloke when he was young and single. Everyone seemed to like him and he wasn’t such a whinger. If only we could go back in time.

Macgran43 Mon 19-Aug-24 00:16:00

Catherine Princess of Wales always has a lovely smile. I think Megan has a lovely natural smile. H and M would have been a breath of fresh air to the Royal family , Harry was ill advised to write his book, appear with Oprah and agree to Netflix programme. Too late now.

How can anyone take so long to say absolutely nothing.
Chestnut - well Trump does it...

Oh good grief, this article has Meghan's speech in full, and what a load of meaningless twaddle. How can anyone take so long to say absolutely nothing. I'm not suggesting anyone reads it all, just skim through to get the idea.

These two seem to live in a fantasy world, sight of a camera seems to thrill them and she is ecstatic if she can grab a
microphone

🤣🤣🤣

Oh dear, there’s a bit of American knocking going on, with stereotypical comments about their smiles, and “customs”. Such a shame, and rather unpleasant.

I agree Ziplok such generalisations are unnecessary

No-on is knocking all Americans, just the people who walk around with a fake grin plastered across their faces, which at the moment seems to be Americans. So maybe it's an American trait. If you can name anyone else who is not American then do.

Thank you ixion, for the link, very interesting.

ferry23 Sun 18-Aug-24 19:37:32

Interesting link ixion, thanks. Although I had to read chunks of it twice to get my head around it!

I would think though, that even if they were stripped of all titles their fame* notoriety* popularity* reputation* (* delete as required!) wouldn't diminish their press coverage. I can't imagine the global interest* voyeurism* curiosity* (delete as required, again) would have diminished for Diana.

TO STRIP OR NOT TO STRIP PRINCE HARRY’S TITLES

middletemplar.org.uk/to-strip-or-not-to-strip-prince-harrys-titles/#

The long - and legal- position from them's that know .

NoraBone Sun 18-Aug-24 19:07:58

Living their best lives despite the hate. Love them both.

Can't understand the dislike / hatred that H&M stir up.

Treason?

Chestnut, referring to your remarking on Meghan's unfaltering smile, I now recall that part of the popularity of successful royalty such as Princess Anne and the late Queen and even Princess Margaret is their ability to look serious and sober.
Is perpetual grinning an American custom?

I think you may be onto something 😲
Look at Kamala Harris for example.I really wish she would stop it and be serious.

eazybee Sun 18-Aug-24 17:42:36

Yes. Pippa; Harry's title of Prince can be removed as it was in the gift of the late Queen, by virtue of him being the son of a son of the reigning monarch. I can't see Charles removing it, but I bet William would.
His Dukedom is more tricky and requires Parliamentary approval. I believe neither of them are supposed to use the title HRH but it is tolerated.
I think it would probably be more trouble than they are worth to remove any of their titles; the money is where it hurts. Harry's fortune comes from his mother and possibly his grandmother, but how long it will last is anyone's guess.

dalrymple23 Sun 18-Aug-24 15:41:27

Exactly - I agree. How can any member of OUR Royal Family ever trust either of them again? A conversation over the cornflakes will be leaked to the Press, put into a book or told to Oprah!

After That Book come out, there was a flurry in the Press about PW thwaking his younger brother into the dog bowl, subsequently breaking it. Pictures were shown. Er, um - it was an indestructible stainless steel number!!!

So I think that they only have a passing acquaintance with the truth.

I do hope that Pippa is right, btw.

M0nica Sun 18-Aug-24 15:39:19

I quite agree Anniebach. People who are in the public eye, especially those who choose to be in the public eye must expect to have their actions judged and commented upon.

Some will admire and some will be critical. It goes with the territory.

Anniebach Sun 18-Aug-24 14:32:40

Why is criticism viewed as hate ? My criticism follows what this couple say and do . I dislike liars, I dislike pushy people,
this is not hatred
