Was so looking forward to this, but not sure it worked for me last night. Yet another drug-dealing gangster story. Will watch next episode tonight and decide!

Ok BigBertha - I understand, what is the north differs depending where we sit on this tiny island

Calendargirl Mon 02-Sept-24 06:46:00

I forgot it was on, and watched ‘Grace’ on ITV.

Will have to catch up later.

I enjoyed last nights episode.Bit dark though.

Iam64 I live quite near Nottingham and as a southerner it feels very northern to me although I agree not the far north. I've lived in North Yorkshire and Cheshire so I'm' not opposed I'm just saying as a southener, it's different. I don't know why TV dramas have to be so dark all the time.

It's the BBC, their lighting is always rubbish.

I had to put subtitles on (and I'm a Midlander).
The actor I thought was Neil Morrissey turned out to be Kevin Doyle.
That's what happens when you aren't concentrating properly.

People seem to like them that way?

For me it has the feel of a Jacobean tragedy- everyone will be dead in the end!

Sorry Diane but I must disagree . The plot is different and I find your comment about "same old , same old actors "so inappropriate.
There are several young , very promising actors in the series and I welcome the chance to see so much talent from the older cast.

I’m glad it wasn’t just me who thought there was a lot of mumbling. I thought my hearing was going! Stopped watching as soon as the swearing started. 😡 It seems as though one word dominates every script. It might be commonplace in some families, but certainly not in ours.
Same problem with ‘High Country’ (daughter swearing at her mother), but at least it was a good story overall and easy to follow. Nice Australian scenery too.

Same old same old storylines and same old same old actors!

Deedaa Tue 27-Aug-24 20:45:59

It hasn't grabbed me instantly like the first series did, but I'll try the next episode before I decide.

I watched the second episode last night. I was wondering how the sister who had been adopted had pointed out the family of the shooter. They were not at the ice rink when she was there meeting her brother. I thought I had missed a bit out but I know I did not. I will carry on watching it but will probably be still puzzled.

That’s what we noticed too, how was she supposed to know?
The murderous family getting revenge could easily have found out what they looked like, a black middle aged couple with a white step daughter with Downs Syndrome are going to be easily spotted. They also had inside info from the mole within the police station.

And, what has she done to her hair?

Looked like rats had been knawing at it. Still had her trademark heavy eyeliner tho.

I was quite shocked when I realised how violent the storyline was. I live in Ashfield barely a mile from where the initial murders actually happened in series 1. I hope that viewers realise that series 2 is fiction and not fact.

Errrr, yes I certainly do.

Very disappointing. Having seen the first series I had high expectations, but it lacked cohesion. Unpleasant and all over the place. A missed opportunity and a waste of some exellent actors, particularly Monica Dolan and Lesley Manville. And no Robert Lindsay!

Robert Lindsay was in the first episode for a few minutes.
You’re right, it’s all over the place and unconvincing, I really liked the first series but not this one.
Too much soul searching and staring into the middle distance and things that didn’t make sense.

rafichagran Tue 27-Aug-24 19:57:12

I will keep watching, I enjoyed it.

Series One I assume?

Series 2 only out weekly.

PinkSweetPea Tue 27-Aug-24 18:46:13

Was not sure if to watch the 2nd episode but glad I did now, very good and the ending was a shock. Cannot wait for the next episode.

tattygran14 Tue 27-Aug-24 17:38:53

Does anybody know where Lesley Manville’s nice spotted dress came from.
You can tell I’m concentrating on the plot !

I've lived in Nottingham all my life and recognised a lot of the places shown. I fet the storyline was quite dark but loosely based on the Gunn family from the Bestwood area (gangsters known to the police who had connections with some corrupt officers in the 90s)
