Was so looking forward to this, but not sure it worked for me last night. Yet another drug-dealing gangster story. Will watch next episode tonight and decide!

Marydoll Mon 26-Aug-24 08:30:53

I agree. I will persist, just in case.

Calendargirl Mon 26-Aug-24 08:40:15

Yes, it was hardly Call The Midwife, or Lark Rise To Candleford was it? Not that I expected it to be.

Must confess I could not really remember much about the first series. Characters kept appearing who I sort of remembered, but the actual back stories escaped me.

It was not a series (the first one) I wanted to re-watch though.

Lilypops Mon 26-Aug-24 08:44:44

I thought it was a bit to close to the Merseyside Detectives very sad programme about gangs , drugs and shooting involved in the murders of Olivia and Ashley, Also the F word was used a lot which now seems to be the norm now, not sure if I will carry on watching ,

Visgir1 Mon 26-Aug-24 08:45:19

Well you really had to concentrate on this, bit confusing as I couldn't completely recall who was who from the last series.
Had to Google the Radio Times where they explained the plot and the characters.

keepingquiet Mon 26-Aug-24 08:55:27

I'm sticking with it. I've met the writer when I lived in that neck of the woods. I think there are some interesting characters so I'll stick with it. It may not turn out to be the story you think it is.

kittylester Mon 26-Aug-24 09:17:18

We will persevere as it took a while with the first series.

Marilla Mon 26-Aug-24 09:29:49

I was looking forward to watching this, but won’t be returning for episode 2. Sullen teenagers, scenes of staring into the abyss and the sound quality was poor.

TerriBull Mon 26-Aug-24 10:35:23

Gave it about half an hour, but life's too short and there's too much choice out there. I did see the last series but can't remember that much about it and have no desire to trawl through it all over again. Shame! it's got a good cast with the excellent Lesley Manville, just seemed disjointed.

Parsley3 Mon 26-Aug-24 10:47:05

I thought it was just me. I was looking forward to this series but I switched off the first episode because I was actually getting irritated by the chopping and changing of scenes, the meaningless snippets of information and most of all the staring into the abyss (a perfect description, Marilla).
I am disappointed as I did enjoy the first series, but I will continue to read the reviews on here and if it picks up I will give it another go.

eazybee Mon 26-Aug-24 10:50:42

Too much packed into the first episode, with confusing flashbacks to the previous series, which I enjoyed. Trying to sort out who is related to whom, as it all seems to hang on family loyalties. Shall continue watching as there are good actors in it but feel I need to take notes.

I was expecting the whole of the series to be on iPlayer because I opted to watch in UHD …just have to wait for next Sunday like the old days! Nothing else was calling my name so I was glad of something new to watch.

I think episode 2 is on tonight.

Charleygirl5 Mon 26-Aug-24 12:09:35

I did not see the last series so I did not have a clue who was who so I gave up after 20 minutes.

I will try Platform 7 tonight on ITV- I live in hope it is warchable.

eddiecat78 Mon 26-Aug-24 12:32:44

OH and I both very disappointed and agreed we didn't want to watch any more. I know my hearing is not as good as it was but I thought there was a lot of mumbling too

Granmarderby10 Mon 26-Aug-24 12:34:45

Calendargirl thanks, of course it’s a bank holiday! 🙂

sodapop Mon 26-Aug-24 12:39:30

I struggled to keep up with Sherwood last night as well. I will see what the next episode brings.

cornergran Mon 26-Aug-24 12:55:21

I didn’t enjoy the first series, Mr C did and also enjoyed last night. Maybe he’s easily pleased smile.

MiniMoon Mon 26-Aug-24 15:01:29

I watched the first series as Mr MM had Iron and enjoyed it. Only saw snippets of last night's episode between putting out the washing, DH watching on catch up. I won't be wasting any more of my time on it.
I'm not really a fan of gritty crime drama.

MiniMoon Mon 26-Aug-24 15:02:12

He had it on! I wish he would iron, but no.

Kim19 Mon 26-Aug-24 16:01:53

I'm sticking to more light hearted and uplifting nowadays.

Jaxjacky Mon 26-Aug-24 16:26:23

We watched it as we did the first series, no sound problems, tonight’s episode should be good, we both enjoy a gritty drama.

BlueBelle Mon 26-Aug-24 16:57:08

Charleygirl I was the same didn’t watch the last one so went to start last night couldn’t understand it at all so went over and watched long lost families

eazybee Tue 27-Aug-24 08:07:31

Watched the second episode which I thought was deeply unpleasant; not sure I shall watch any more.
Apparently based on the author's recollections of growing up in Nottinghamshire (?) following the closure of the mines but seems to centre on a series of revenge killings instigated by chilling matriarchs, for the 'family.'

Trying for another Peaky Blinders?

kittylester Tue 27-Aug-24 08:16:19

We watched part 2 last night and will watch further episodes.

Obviously, it is a dramatisation but there was a time, after the closure of the coalfields when Nottingham became quite lawless.
