Anyone planning to watch this series, coming soon on Channel 5.
I read the books Hardacre and Hardacre’s Luck by C L Skelton years ago and they’re still on my bookshelf.
I’m just debating whether to reread them before watching.

I watched the final episode last night and I’m glad I stuck with it as it grew on me. I hope there will be a second series. It’s a pleasant hour of escapism.

I've enjoyed Hardacre, I'm not a fan of gritty dramas and horrible people doing nasty things to each other.
There's enough of that on the news unfortunately, I don't need it as entertainment.

It doesn’t worry me too much if the details aren’t fully correct. It’s not a documentary.
I hope there is a second series.

A pleasant light watch: yes to a second series.

I’m going to give it a go too, I’ve liked the trailers

I'd like to see another series, there were a lot of "endings" that were only just "beginnings" in the last episode.

Watched the last episode last night. It got better with each instalment. I’ve really liked it especially the actress playing the mother. I hope there’s a second series as I would have liked to have seen something of the wedding and what happens next

Yes, that’s Julie Graham. She has been in loads of plays and TV progs. I remember her most from At Home With The Braithwaites. She was also in a wartime drama not that long ago. Really good actress.

I enjoyed it and hope there’s another series. As someone else says, it IS nice to see new faces. The only face I recognised was Ma. Loved her scenes with the gamekeeper.
I can’t imagine Joe’s marriage will be successful despite him claiming he loves his pregnant wife.

I thought it was really corny at first, but it's definitely picked up. Quite enjoying it now.

Hope there is a second series, it was a nice relaxing watch and for once I didn't recognise most of the actors. Nice to see some new faces.

We quite enjoyed it, I have to say. I was reading something yesterday which said they hadn't decided whether there will be a second series or not.

Just watched the final episode last night.

I thought it had picked up considerably the last few weeks.

Happy endings all round.

Do you think they will wring another series out of it?

Calendargirl Tue 29-Oct-24 21:42:07

Just watched this week’s episode.

That was more like it!

A bit of proper drama, much more realistic.

Primrose53 Sun 27-Oct-24 18:36:26

I’m recording it and watching it on Sunday evenings when there’s not much else on. It’s not that bad.

Clawdy Wed 23-Oct-24 16:56:37

Yes, he is so much like a young James Bolam that I googled his name to see if there was a link - but there didn't seem to be!

ferry23 Tue 22-Oct-24 16:21:05

Thanks Calendargirl. I spent half the programme trying to think who he looked like!

All a bit silly and unbelievable but rather that than the testosterone and lip filler fuelled rubbish that seems to dominate these days.

Calendargirl Tue 22-Oct-24 16:00:04

It gets dafter.

So what exactly did they serve the Duchess and the other posh ladies at this ‘gala’ afternoon tea?

A fried herring each? Accompanied by what? confused

Anyone else think that Joe, the conniving nasty son, looks like a young James Bolam?

I’ve just to delete it from my recordings , it’s rubbish

Ditto

Actually I’m not that impressed with the latest “ All Creatures” either

They do seem to have a thing about housekeepers although I like Mrs. Hall on ACGAS.

I’ve put The Hardacres in my daft but just about watchable category.

I’ll put it in the category of a series that I’ll make a point of watching but wouldn’t be bothered if I missed an episode.

Ziplok Wed 16-Oct-24 11:58:52

The trailer put me off, so haven’t bothered with it. The exaggerated Yorkshire accents were one thing which grated on me, too (and I’m a Yorkshire lass through and through), and to be honest the trailer just didn’t sell it to me, it portrayed the programme as far as I’m concerned as a lot of stereotypical nonsense.

Esmay Wed 16-Oct-24 11:41:53

Watched another episode .
And I think that the problem is this - it's been raced through .
Without pacing the rags to riches story doesn't ring true and the anticipation of better days doesn't build up .

Greenfinch Wed 16-Oct-24 10:19:12

Nothing to like about it so switched off in the middle of the second episode. Frothy and lacking any sense of reality. None of the characters are endearing.
