Anyone planning to watch this series, coming soon on Channel 5.
I read the books Hardacre and Hardacre’s Luck by C L Skelton years ago and they’re still on my bookshelf.
I’m just debating whether to reread them before watching.

Rags to Riches saga set in Yorkshire 1890s, starts tonight, might give it a whirl though as its channel 5 will probably record so can wizz through the adverts.

I’m planning to watch it. Anything to get me from watching MAFS 😂

MayBee70 Mon 07-Oct-24 15:17:46

Thanks for the reminder. Not sure if I’ve got Ch5 catchup so need to make a point of watching it when it’s on.

Lovetopaint037 Mon 07-Oct-24 17:10:19

What is MAFS Beechnut? Can’t work it out.

Indigo8 Mon 07-Oct-24 17:19:40

Married at First Sight. It is cringe inducing but compulsive.

Greenfinch Mon 07-Oct-24 17:43:12

It is a family saga from the creators of All Creatures Great and Small so should be good.

MAFS is so daft but it is a bit addictive Beechnut My very sane, very ‘adult thinking’ clever, professional daughter kept talking about MAFS and I watched and got caught in it too
🤣🤣🤣

I find all programmes like that addictive. I don’t actually watch them but, if I’m channel hopping and end up watching just a bit of First Dates or 24 hours in A &E I often find myself having to watch the whole programme.

I'm looking forward to it. I'm so fed up of all the crappy reality programmes and quiz and game shows.

Going to give it a go, I like the trailers. I'll watch it tonight and record the series.

Grannynannywanny Mon 07-Oct-24 19:01:31

I set the tv box to record when I saw the trailer recently. I thought it looked good .

rafichagran Mon 07-Oct-24 19:12:32

Glad of this thread as I had forgotten about it, will watch tonight.
Thanks * Mollygo*

Am recording it.

Greenfinch Mon 07-Oct-24 21:14:14

Looks good so far apart from the adverts!

Harris27 Mon 07-Oct-24 21:15:28

Recording it.

Shades of ‘Catherine Cookson’ methinks.

Their little cottage looks quite light and bright, more likely dark and drab back then.

I’m a bit of a stickler for detail in period dramas.
I counted 4 oil lamps burning in the daytime while the wife is scratching about for money to pay the rent.
Thats when I gave up.
Too much good stuff on elsewhere.

MayBee70 Mon 07-Oct-24 21:42:34

It’s a bit lightweight and predictable. But I think I can do with watching something like that at the moment.

granfromafar Mon 07-Oct-24 21:50:21

Watching the first episode and it seems like a good story. Will probably stick with it.

Grannynannywanny Mon 07-Oct-24 22:21:01

I wasn’t expecting the rags to riches to all happen in the first episode 😊

Lilypops Mon 07-Oct-24 22:37:45

How did she get the money to buy her first barrel of herrings when she couldn’t pay the rent. Or did she steal them , but I saw her bidding for them for five shillings. , Otherwise I think it’s quite good , but willrecord them as it’s on channel5.

Mollygo Mon 07-Oct-24 22:50:00

I recorded it so I could fast forward the adverts. It started well, IMO, but DH doesn’t like it.

And the paper bags to put them in!

Just the kind of non-thinking type programme that sometimes just hits the spot though.
