Two tv adverts I can do without

When there is a program you don’t like, you can switch it off
However, with adverts which pop up every so often for a few seconds without any warning I cannot grab the remote control before it finishes.
I’ve been cast away …
She has divided …
So I turn down all adverts, at the moment, it is not possible to cut them out.
I certainly will not be watching either program and you?

Pee pants, and Tesco. I got the Power make me turn the tv off ,

Katek Sun 03-Nov-24 22:42:20

My pet hate is the "pee pants/it's soaked it all up" woman-that really warrants a major rant at the screen! I only hope she got well paid for taking on that particular ad as she's never going to get work in anything else. She'll always be the "pee pants" woman! And please don't let me get started on the over 50's/funeral plans. Do people actually believe the whole 'we care about you' spin?

As a previous poster has said, many of the charities are shooting themselves in the foot by making their ads so distressing that some of us can't watch them. Graphic scenes of animal cruelty, sick and starving children make me mute or switch off the tv so I miss the details for donations. I can't be the only one.

One thing about the incontinence ad - it's actually done its job - we're all talking about the product!!

How funny you all hate them but watch them enough to know every word sound and happening
I hate them but don’t watch then I tune out when they are on, turn to my iPad, do a quick game or something and most of the ones you are talking about have passed me by completely.

Just blank out when they are on so much nicer than watching, then moaning how much you hate them 🤣

Babs03 Sun 03-Nov-24 20:27:22

Then there was the one where a young woman with an Irish accent is actually sitting on the loo talking about sanitary towels.
Too much information as they say.

Babs03 Sun 03-Nov-24 20:14:18

Perfume ads are all dire, there was one that really put my teeth on edge last year where a weird looking Johnny Depp, whose masacara is running, buries something in the dessert accompanied by wolves or jackals - not sure which or even care. The Jean Paul Gaultier ads always involve very pretty partially dressed young sailors hanging from the rigging, think that might say more for the sexual preference of Jean Paul Gaultier than the perfume.

We literally never watch any program live (apart from news), always record and fast-forward ads or repetitive bits.
Depending how long the show is will depend how long we wait to start watching it, generally 20 minutes or so.

My friend does that. I wonder if they do that to avoid paying a TV licence. Do you buy one?

Gracesnan Sun 03-Nov-24 19:50:10

The Miss Dior perfume advert with Natalie Portman screeching…… drives me mad!!!

ftm420 Sun 03-Nov-24 15:42:03

Ohmother: we used to moan when they used blue water, but now it's all red, I'd rather the blue came back!

I also hate the funeral ones that suggest if you haven't arranged yours then you're a selfish person: "oh, Mum, always looking after us".

I can't stand that advert with the two women practicing yoga and one has a problem with bladder leaks. It's embarassing to watch.

I hate all of those adverts that make people think that their clothes and bedding smells even when it’s been washed!

Indigo8 Wed 30-Oct-24 21:27:26

I hate the one where the man uses some smelly stuff on his clothes and then anybody who smells them is caught in a gust of wind and their hair is blown up and back while a look of imbecilic ecstasy comes over their face.

MayBee70 Wed 30-Oct-24 21:20:02

I hate any advert in which someone is given a different persons voice, especially if it’s a baby given an adult voice. And I really hate the Tesco advert in which people sing ‘ I’ve got the power’.

V3ra Wed 30-Oct-24 20:57:41

I also hate the Haribo ad with men talking in stupid voices.

Oh me too! I've worked with small children for nearly 40 years and none of them has talked like these daft people 😖
My husband laughs at my shouting at the screen reaction to the advert! 😄

I could do without the Freemans ad with Sophie Ellis Bextor because I’ve got such a girl crush*
on Sophie and it makes me want to get a Freemans catalogue ( really don’t want any more clothes or catalogues…)
*I was a bit worried about it till my daughter went to a festival and she and her friends all went to watch Sophie and thought she was wonderful so I realised it wasn’t just me!

Cossy

Adverts drive me nuts!

I don’t like most of them, but pee-pants, pure cremation and all cleaning ads are my least favourite!

Yes Cossy, I agree with your choice of cringy adverts, they are all truly terrible. I don't like the adverts with super-well groomed silver-foxes flirting (obvious veneers!) with super-well groomed ladies of a certain age! They just make me cringe. I would just like a man who looks like a man, not someone who takes longer than me to get ready, which isn't very long! 🤔

I’m afraid I can’t bear the Cadbury’s advert with the little girl. I find it over sentimental and cloying. I don’t like the bladder leak adverts either. However, yesterday afternoon, we were treated to one where various young women were pulling at sanitary towels inside their clothes to demonstrate that they were not bunching up, coming adrift or leaking. To top it off, red liquid was poured on one to demonstrate its absorbency. There is simply no need for it.

One simply does despair at the total lack of decorum nowadays. One shudders to think what one’s mother would have said!

anything to do with sport - so usually the sponsors of a tv series

hollysteers Fri 25-Oct-24 15:23:13

DOMINO HOO HOO!! Aargh, hate it. 😨

sodapop Fri 25-Oct-24 12:24:51

Like hulahoop I hate the pot noodle ad with the donkey jumping on the woman's back, no relevance to the product at all.
I also hate the Haribo ad with men talking in stupid voices.

I’m not a big ‘normal’ telly watcher, and reading these, I’m glad.
I do get annoyed by ads trying to be ‘inclusive’, and I’m watching Big Brother streamed, which is sponsored by Vinted. Their ads have the black dad selling the pink babygro, and ‘Ash’ treating ‘themself’ to new boots. This is often followed by Pandora’s loved up ladies, kissing and canoodling.
It’s not that I find them offensive, just that it seems to me like representation of a customer group designed to appear inclusive.

PinkCosmos Fri 25-Oct-24 11:07:59

It may not still be shown but the one for toilet roll - can't remember the brand.

It focusses on backsides of all shapes and sizes walking away from the camera. Some of them not very pretty.

No do I.
I can’t bear the ad where a woman moves a bedside lam so that half the bed tips and her partner falls down into the room below- just so she can enjoy a bowl of cereal?
Mostly I just ignore ads or go and make a drink.

Must be inspired by the book In the Night kitchen (By Sendak).

That one with the chocolate bar. Quite like it but always think if she didn’t have any money surely her mother would have wanted to know how she got it.

MayBee70 Fri 25-Oct-24 01:24:34

I really hate the Twix advert with the two bears talking about eating those two men. I know it doesn’t happen very often and certainly not in this country but people have been killed by bears and it just seems very insensitive.

Georgesgran Fri 25-Oct-24 00:33:48

I’m not keen on the over 50s dating ads either - especially silly women finding the antics of their date hilarious.
The Cadbury advert is a turn off too - I’ve yet to meet a shop who would give a child free goods! The lady on the Honey Nut Cornflake ad is now in one about investing money as a single woman, to cover her projected future life.

Of course, we are now about to be subjected to the various Christmas Advertising Canpaigns, where some fools and their money are to be soon parted! Children will ‘suffer’ unless they get everything they want and every carefully themed and coordinated Christmas table in the land has to be groaning under the load of food that would feed a small village - mostly on credit cards that will take months to pay off!
Cynical? Moi?
