Viewed this but turned off … he’s so self indulgent..says it was an unwise decision but IMO it was an inappropriate decision and really feel for his wife and girls.. what do others think?

Kate1949 Tue 01-Oct-24 20:17:19

I didn't watch but I used to watch him on This Morning. He came across as smug and self satisfied. The episode where he 'came out' was toe curlingly cringe making.

Doodledog Tue 01-Oct-24 19:58:09

Feel quite sorry for him. Who hasn’t made ill advised decisions at sometime in their lives?
The affair was 'ill advised'. The rest of it goes further, IMO.

Seriously - what are the chances of someone with his profile and ability to pull in viewers would be 'cancelled' just for having an affair? Less than nil, I think.

GreyKnitter Tue 01-Oct-24 18:40:52

I totally agree.

GreyKnitter Tue 01-Oct-24 18:40:33

We watched the first episode last night and will watch the following 2 episodes. Philip did nothing criminally wrong but admits that it was ill advised. Far, far worse folks than Philip who get nothing like the abuse that he has. Feel quite sorry for him. Who hasn’t made ill advised decisions at sometime in their lives?

I watched it.

The surprise for me was Joanna Lumley popping up to show support for him.

Must have some redeeming qualities if Joanna likes him.

I do believe he was thrown under a bus. I also think that his brother's court case could have been an issue with ITV.

As for Holly, well, I've never been a fan. I'd not have been unhappy to see her booted off TV.

I watched it, thought it was interesting.Didn’t think it self indulgent at all, a period of calm and reflection will be good for him, would be good for most of us.

Iam64 Tue 01-Oct-24 17:46:55

Rekarie - I read the same, he resigned

Rekarie Tue 01-Oct-24 17:43:35

According an ITV spokesman, not named of course, PS wasn't sacked, he resigned.

How true that is I've no idea.

Anniebach Tue 01-Oct-24 17:42:12

So he is not a nice person, must be really unpleasant

Iam64 Tue 01-Oct-24 17:40:47

I’d be flabbergasted if it was due to an affair Annie -

Anniebach Tue 01-Oct-24 17:37:19

Yes Schofield, wonder if no one would work with him because he isn’t a nice person or because he had an affair

Doodledog Tue 01-Oct-24 17:13:25

Assuming you are talking about Schofield, that is.

Stopped watching this Morning when John Leslie then Fern Britton left. Scoffield wasn’t arrested or charged with anything so how can he be judged innocent or guilty

He hasn't been. He was sacked from his job, and nobody wants to work with him. I don't think anyone has said he was arrested and found guilty, have they?

OldFrill Tue 01-Oct-24 17:11:35

It's 3 parts isn't it?

Lisaangel10 Tue 01-Oct-24 16:12:42

Surprised anybody watched it.

MissInterpreted Tue 01-Oct-24 16:11:36

Charges being dropped doesn't necessarily mean that a person is innocent, which I'm sure you well know. It has nothing to do with whether I like or dislike the man - but, as I say, his reputation was well-known locally and I do know women who had rather a lot to say about their own experiences with him.

Arrested and charged on a number of occasions, but either found not guilty or charges dropped. But his reputation was well known in Edinburgh.

Then not guilty . This is so like the thread about bullying on
Strictly, the accuser was a liar and mentally ill, seems much depends on liking or not liking.

Arrested and found guilty?

John Leslie wasn't exactly whiter than white either...

I find there's a culture of over-sharing and everyone seems to be a victim with a sob story. Philip Schofield needs to be relevant and always comes across as so smug. Most people would want to keep their head down. I don't think we've heard the last of him unfortunately.

eggplant Tue 01-Oct-24 15:32:26

Are you personal friends with Joanna? She's an interesting character isn't she, all round good egg, friend of the gurkhas and all that.

Funny how people believe this stuff.

I suppose part of the problem is he was pretending to be something he wasn't.

Wholesome family man, top banter with Fern and then Holly. All friends together.

The young guy would have been easily swayed by money, attention and the promise of a job as a runner.

Sad state of affairs really. No, I won't be watching.

Iam64 Tue 01-Oct-24 15:12:45

There is evidence that an adult, much older man in a position of power started a relationship with a young man he first met as a 15 year old. Schofield claims it was homophobia that led to criticism and believes he’d have been approved of if he’d had a relationship with a girl not a boy,
He also claims that in gay circles, it’s very common for older men to have young lovers. Firstly, that isn’t the case with my gay friends, secondly -being not unusual doesn’t make it ok.
