Just that really, what are your views and opinions on Curry’s adverts. Personally I find them irritating and insulting to the point of not wanting to go into Curry’s again. They don’t advert much in the way goods, just that “customers” are thick and clueless in how to shop in store. Just interested if it’s just me thinking this way.

Agree with Mum2three can never find an assistant in Currys, they don't seem to have any knowledge of their products (if you're lucky enough to find one), then its usually out of stock (but can be ordered on line). I stick with John Lewis, assistants helpful, knowledgeable and after sales brilliant.

I rarely see ads and haven’t seen the Curry’s one, nor been inside a Curry’s shop for at least six years. But my grandson works in the back office of the Returns department. They resell some returned items on ebay. Caveat emptor ( buyer beware).

That’s not very kind Quizzer
Our local one was very helpful a few years ago, but we’ve also used AO.

Dreadful ads do they think we are simple minded or something, specially the one with the beard!!

I always use a local independent retailer for my electricals..

I use currys as there isn;t much choice these days in our town. Where I lived previously we had a fabulous small independent shop where we bought all our white goods. They also did repairs and when the door catch broke on my washing machine the guy told me it would be £35 for a call out but he described over the phone how to remove the door myself and take it in and the catch was replaced for £5! When we were looking for a new appliance we always asked if they had any 'graded' machines and they usually found us one. Most of the faults were undetectable and we had some real bargains from them. There was also an independent place selling TVs and Hifi etc that we used for all those types of purchase and we always negotiated a good price there too. Sadly customer service and choice has gone out of the window now that most people buy online and stores have closed.

I like Curry’s and shop there in person and on online, always very happy with service and products.

HOWEVER, their adverts, particularly the latest one, drive me up the wall!!

HowVeryDareYou2 Sat 19-Oct-24 17:18:07

Their adverts are always daft.

When I shop in Curry’s I delight in confusing the assistant (assuming you can find one).
In my mid 70s, silver haired and I am treated patronisingly as though I am completely tech ignorant and easily conned.
In fact I have spent most of my life in IT and I take great delight in asking the young assistants highly technical questions that they can rarely answer. I take a wicked sadistic pleasure in cutting the worst ones down to size. 🤣

They didn’t know zilch about heat pump dryers or about self cleaning filters- had to show the guy where the filter was stored 🙄ended up going to a local shop who were brilliant, plus keeping them going.

Had great experience with mum at local Curry’s. Helpful and knowledgeable. But we did have to watch the delivery charges on a fridge/freezer which varied according to day of delivery, etc. We ended up buying from a local independent, where price was slightly higher but they offered delivery for free and were able to deliver more quickly. It appears to shop around as they say! But Mum lives in a large town, and definitely has much more choice than I do in a smaller town dominated by tourists.

Like lots of people, I try to ignore all adverts and find them just ridiculous and irritating. There's that particularly irksome pop up ad on Gransnet with some woman's face on it which pops up over the content. I have no idea what it's for, as I immediately tap on the symbol to get rid of it.
Gransnet admin - please take note 😂

They are absolutely inane like so many adverts these days. I'm finding car adverts so irritating these days too, they tell you nothing about the cars at all execept, perhaps, that they do up to so many mph/battery charge. Up to, without a from, in front of it giving a range is pointless. They are all to arty as well.

Some adverts really put me off the product they are advertising. For example: Lenor, Gillette, anything to do with cars .... there are more but I can't think of them at the moment.

My current most irritating TV ad is the car-buying one with that bloke who looks like Beelzebub and can’t say his Ts or Gs.

Almost equal are all those FRESH!!! OMG it’s so FRESH!!!
ones for laundry additives.

We don't get the TV adverts here, but have used Curry's for two major purchases over the last 3 years. Staff were knowledgeable and helpful. Quality was good. After care was great, as an oak TV stand was delivered with a slight scratch and they immediately arranged a pick up (without us having to dismantle it again) and a fresh delivery of an un-marked one. I also use their interest-free credit offers.

Gummie Sat 19-Oct-24 13:50:28

Its a miracle if you can find any staff in Currys.

Poppyred Sat 19-Oct-24 13:47:12

Yes, the adverts are unbelievably boring, however our local Curry’s has definitely improved lately. At one time it was impossible to attract the attention of a sales assistant which resulted in us not going anywhere near a store in years. Had to go a few months back to look for a new iPad ( all other electrical stores in the area closed down) and was served straight away by a very knowledgeable assistant. A nice surprise.

Those Tena ones are really annoying, as are the ones which refer to 'surging' of menstrual blood and the poonami ones. Yes, wee, blood and poo happen and sometimes at unexpected times, but we really don't need to see pictures or a woman with her bum in the air at an aerobics class!!

Just as lockdown was starting I had a last minute delivery of a new tv from Curry’s. I’d paid for installation, the two blokes who came were useless, and left me with a tv that didn’t work at all.
Luckily I found a local firm who fixed it, they’d completely broken the wires to the connection, and just driven away.

My advice is never ever ever buy from Currys - their staff have no knowledge about the goods they sell and their after sales service is dreadful, almost non existent

I agree entirely. Having bought an expensive large screen Smart TV with a 5 Year Manufacturer warranty it was delivered but only with a one year warranty. I called customer services several times only to be told that it wasn't their department before being abruptly transferred to another department who would then do the same. 'm sure is was some kind of joke for the staff. I called the TV manufacturer and their customer service guy said they were fed up of Currys and their underhand sales tricks.
When I boycott a company it stays boycotted unlike the current government.

We always use Richer Sounds for TV or hifi, they often offer a longer guarantee and are absolutely straightforward to deal with. The salesmens' knowledge is second to none and delivery is very quick too.

mabon1 Sat 19-Oct-24 12:47:14

I disagree, their after sales have been spot on for me after two televisions failed, I had a new one each time, the replacement has been grand.

cc Sat 19-Oct-24 12:45:29

I had to buy a washing machine recently and looked all over the place online. In the end John Lewis was as cheap as anywhere else for what I wanted and offered next day delivery. Currys was the same price but delivery took far longer.

cc Sat 19-Oct-24 12:44:13

I bought a computer from Currys last year, I had to wait for over an hour to get any sort of help, though the woman who eventually helped me was fine. Almost no staff in our local large Currys now, very long waits at all times both for service and at the tills. We bought a mobile for my husband, they had to order in what we wanted for "next day delivery" which took well over a week. We're still not sure if it was actually in their stock room for the whole time as nobody seemed to know how the system worked.
The only part of our store that functions properly is the one selling small electrical good, it takes up the whole of the mezzanine floor and has just one salesman. Fortunately he knows the stock inside out and is reasonably quick, but he has to go through all the scripted rigmarole of trying to sell you an extended guarantee and any extras that he can. We never go there at weekends or at lunchtime, you could wait all day.

The last time time went to Curry's it was to choose, buy and take away a washing machine as ours had broken down and its services were urgently needed.

I couldn't find any staff to help for twenty minutes and then was shown a huge array of machines - to find not one in stock.

Went to a local store, paid a few pounds over the odds, loaded a machine onto the car and drove it home.

I have learned my lesson and the ads make me laugh.
