Just that really, what are your views and opinions on Curry’s adverts. Personally I find them irritating and insulting to the point of not wanting to go into Curry’s again. They don’t advert much in the way goods, just that “customers” are thick and clueless in how to shop in store. Just interested if it’s just me thinking this way.

MayBee70 Wed 16-Oct-24 23:08:59

I’m gobsmacked in that they’re portraying people going into shops to choose the goods they want ( which is what I prefer to do with white goods, TV’s etc). But they’ve closed down the shop local to where I live and also where my partner lives, too.

I don't mind the adverts, so many annoy me more. Local one is fine, but I've never tested them on the level of techie ability the customer service people claim in the ads.

Calendargirl Thu 17-Oct-24 06:54:51

Yes, I think the adverts are plain daft.

Would put me off buying from them, not the other way around.

mum2three Thu 17-Oct-24 07:14:37

The ads certainly don't reflect my experience with Currys. I always have to hunt for an assistant when I want something, and they are invariably out of stock. Next door is Argos and I have better luck in there.

BlueBelle Thu 17-Oct-24 07:23:19

Never seen one…. unfortunately for firms I take zero interest in the adverts and completely zone out when they are on

Mollygo Thu 17-Oct-24 10:30:24

Never seen them. Perhaps I don’t watch TV at the right time. Currys near us is very helpful and willing to order if they don’t have it in stock. They have always honoured their price match when it’s been available too.

My advice is never ever ever buy from Currys - their staff have no knowledge about the goods they sell and their after sales service is dreadful, almost non existent

eazybee Thu 17-Oct-24 10:39:20

I have never seen these advertisements, but my experience of Currys, linked with PCWorld, is poor. Like mum2three I always have to hunt for an assistant, who then discovers the item is out of stock even though it shows up as being on the premises (shoplifters apparently, even though most of the stock is locked down and the assistant is needed to release it.) and I have to drive elsewhere. Online I suppose is inevitable.

You must have different advertising to my area at present. Here the advert offers things in people’s homes.

Granmarderby10 Thu 17-Oct-24 10:51:41

Well …the ad is quite amusing but they are the only such shop left on the high street now so a bit of Hobsons Choice really here.
As for their “tech knowledge” I have most recently asked for advice and info on vacuum cleaners, Fridges, Washing machines, Instant pot/ pressure cookers and …

they seemed to know nowt about vacuum cleaners in fact the bloke seemed totally flustered and almost afraid, plus a lot of their Vax machines on display had some of their accessories missing, or on the wrong machines or had to go to another branch ….and they told me factually incorrect rubbish about
returning one a few days after purchase because the drive belt broke THREE times.
So some retailers are just not doing themselves any favours imo.

Most adverts just pass me by and I don't pay much attention to them. Record a lot of programmes so always fast forward through the adverts.

I agree entirely. Having bought an expensive large screen Smart TV with a 5 Year Manufacturer warranty it was delivered but only with a one year warranty. I called customer services several times only to be told that it wasn't their department before being abruptly transferred to another department who would then do the same. 'm sure is was some kind of joke for the staff. I called the TV manufacturer and their customer service guy said they were fed up of Currys and their underhand sales tricks.
When I boycott a company it stays boycotted unlike the current government.

The last time time went to Curry's it was to choose, buy and take away a washing machine as ours had broken down and its services were urgently needed.

I couldn't find any staff to help for twenty minutes and then was shown a huge array of machines - to find not one in stock.

Went to a local store, paid a few pounds over the odds, loaded a machine onto the car and drove it home.

I have learned my lesson and the ads make me laugh.

I bought a computer from Currys last year, I had to wait for over an hour to get any sort of help, though the woman who eventually helped me was fine. Almost no staff in our local large Currys now, very long waits at all times both for service and at the tills. We bought a mobile for my husband, they had to order in what we wanted for "next day delivery" which took well over a week. We're still not sure if it was actually in their stock room for the whole time as nobody seemed to know how the system worked.
The only part of our store that functions properly is the one selling small electrical good, it takes up the whole of the mezzanine floor and has just one salesman. Fortunately he knows the stock inside out and is reasonably quick, but he has to go through all the scripted rigmarole of trying to sell you an extended guarantee and any extras that he can. We never go there at weekends or at lunchtime, you could wait all day.

I had to buy a washing machine recently and looked all over the place online. In the end John Lewis was as cheap as anywhere else for what I wanted and offered next day delivery. Currys was the same price but delivery took far longer.

I disagree, their after sales have been spot on for me after two televisions failed, I had a new one each time, the replacement has been grand.

We always use Richer Sounds for TV or hifi, they often offer a longer guarantee and are absolutely straightforward to deal with. The salesmens' knowledge is second to none and delivery is very quick too.

Just as lockdown was starting I had a last minute delivery of a new tv from Curry’s. I’d paid for installation, the two blokes who came were useless, and left me with a tv that didn’t work at all.
Luckily I found a local firm who fixed it, they’d completely broken the wires to the connection, and just driven away.

Some adverts really put me off the product they are advertising. For example: Lenor, Gillette, anything to do with cars .... there are more but I can't think of them at the moment.

Those Tena ones are really annoying, as are the ones which refer to 'surging' of menstrual blood and the poonami ones. Yes, wee, blood and poo happen and sometimes at unexpected times, but we really don't need to see pictures or a woman with her bum in the air at an aerobics class!!

Yes, the adverts are unbelievably boring, however our local Curry’s has definitely improved lately. At one time it was impossible to attract the attention of a sales assistant which resulted in us not going anywhere near a store in years. Had to go a few months back to look for a new iPad ( all other electrical stores in the area closed down) and was served straight away by a very knowledgeable assistant. A nice surprise.

Gummie Sat 19-Oct-24 13:50:28

Its a miracle if you can find any staff in Currys.

yogitree Sat 19-Oct-24 14:14:21

We don't get the TV adverts here, but have used Curry's for two major purchases over the last 3 years. Staff were knowledgeable and helpful. Quality was good. After care was great, as an oak TV stand was delivered with a slight scratch and they immediately arranged a pick up (without us having to dismantle it again) and a fresh delivery of an un-marked one. I also use their interest-free credit offers.

My current most irritating TV ad is the car-buying one with that bloke who looks like Beelzebub and can’t say his Ts or Gs.

Almost equal are all those FRESH!!! OMG it’s so FRESH!!!
ones for laundry additives.
