I saw it ages ago as well but have recently watched it again. Fine performances all round, especially Toby Jones who never disappoints.

I loved the charming French song at the end.

A wonderful film from the book by one of my favourite Novelist's Somerset Maugham. I have the whole set of his short stories and absolutely love them.

I saw it a few years ago. Yes, it is lovely. I hadn’t realised Toby Jones was in it; I didn’t really become familiar with him till Detectorists.

I read Somerset Maugham's books one summer a long time ago .
Wonderful reads.
Hard to believe that his mother tongue was French and he was mocked at school for his poor English .
I'd like to see the film .

I too saw it a while ago. Excellent film. I read masses of Somerset Maugham’s short stories years ago, they are so good.

He was an extremely popular playwright too, but I sadly never see his plays performed these days.

Saw it a couple of years ago, very good, quite slow if you don’t mind that, lovely scenery and good acting all round, films based on books are usually the best kind in my view.

Yes! saw it a few years ago, as others have said it is a beautiful film, very well acted, albeit, as pointed out by Oreo, somewhat slow .

Lovely film and I liked that it was slow

I too am a Somerset Maugham lover, and think his short stories are among the best. I started reading them again on my cruise this year. I loved the film and have read the book - wonderful.

I saw it some years ago and I thought it was very good.
Like Sparklefizz I would give it 9.5 out of 10. Half a point
knocked off for changing the ending.
