I saw it some years ago and I thought it was very good. Like Sparklefizz I would give it 9.5 out of 10. Half a point knocked off for changing the ending.
I too am a Somerset Maugham lover, and think his short stories are among the best. I started reading them again on my cruise this year. I loved the film and have read the book - wonderful.
Saw it a couple of years ago, very good, quite slow if you don’t mind that, lovely scenery and good acting all round, films based on books are usually the best kind in my view.
I read Somerset Maugham's books one summer a long time ago . Wonderful reads. Hard to believe that his mother tongue was French and he was mocked at school for his poor English . I'd like to see the film .
This is beautifully filmed and very atmospheric..... set in rural China in the 1920s when an English newly married couple go out there to work. I won't give any detail as I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone, but personally I loved it and would give it 9.5/10.
