has just died.

I know she wasn’t everybody’s cup of tea perhaps but her take-off of Nicola Sturgeon’s Covid addresses (is that the word) to the Scottish nation raised many a smile from me at a time when smiles were thin on the ground.
“Get the door Frank!” RIP Janey Godley

Yes, sad news. I follow her on Twitter/X and she had announced that she was in the final stages of life in a hospice. I love her voice overs of Nicola Sturgeon.

I agree. It was good to have a laugh during covid. Sad news. She had a hard time with cancer, and was only 63.

I did too, she really was a one off. So sad for her family and friends... Frank got that door for her, no pain now 🌹

I haven’t heard of her so must look out for her work.It must be hard to know that life is coming to an end.

I thought she was funny.

RIP Janey.

I never heard of her.
I heard today about her death and that she was 63.
It’s sad to die so young.
I know 63 isn’t young, but it’s not old either.

I have to confess that I wasn't really a fan of her comedy, but it's still very sad to learn of her death at only 63. She was very active on social media right up to the end, and I think her frankness about her ovarian cancer did a lot to highlight the condition. She was also spot on when it came to Donald Trump! (For those who don't know, google it and you'll see the infamous picture!)

RIP Jane 💐

I am another who has followed her on X, she was given an Honorary Degree this week, I think that was her last post with it in front of her.

I also discovered her thanks to her Lockdown voiceovers which were hilarious and I’m sorry to hear that she hast lost her cancer battle.

RIP Janey.

She has such a hard childhood, she was sexually abused by an uncle, both parents were alcoholics and her mother drowned in the River Clyde. She rose above that and was a brilliant comedian but a very quietly kind woman. Her language was salty but reflected her background. I have a great deal of respect for her and I'm sad she's died

Go well, Janey. You made me laugh often during a very difficult time.

SueDonim Sat 02-Nov-24 13:48:35

I only knew of Janey Godley via her Covid sketches but they were priceless. So funny.

I’m sorry she has died, 63 seems no age at all nowadays. flowers

I am another who got to know Janet during Covid and have followed her on X since.

She raised a lot of awareness of ovarian cancer and showed such bravery and strength.RIP Janey.

mrswoo Sat 02-Nov-24 15:05:36

I too followed her on Twitter. She showed enormous strength, and humour too, in facing her illness.
She was also a very good writer - if anyone is interested - her novel "Nothing Left Unsaid" is a worthwhile read.

jasper16 Sat 02-Nov-24 15:20:29

Really sad, it seems young to me.

Grannmarie Sat 02-Nov-24 16:21:34

I was sorry to hear that Janey died this morning. My sisters and I saw her doing her stand up comedy at The Stand in Glasgow many years ago, the venue was full to overflowing, a great night.
Her N.S. voice overs during Covid were an absolute tonic.
Condolences to her husband and daughter, R.I.P. Janet Godley.

I'm another who had never heard of her, though I sort of remember a discussion on GN comparing her plight with that of Deborah James who received more public sympathy??

Floradora9 Sat 02-Nov-24 21:24:43

you can understand her better if you read her autobiography " Handstands in The Dark " . What a life she had .

Allira Sat 02-Nov-24 21:45:55

That is very sad.

I do remember Janey's take-off of Nicola Sturgeon during lockdown, they brought some cheer during those dismal times.

RIP Janey Godley

I d never heard of this lady but sad to hear anyone dying young

Kate1949 Sun 03-Nov-24 00:47:55

I believe she became a good friend of Nicola.

Bellasnana Sun 03-Nov-24 08:10:48

I hadn’t heard of her until I saw a clip of her doing a voiceover when Liz Truss stood down as PM and it really made me laugh!

I’m sad to hear she has died so young. May she rest in peace.
