flump

Ilovedogs22 Anthony Horowitz adapted his book for the series and some of the main characters from Magpie Murders are in Moonflower Murders. Why do you find it so awful ?

I know this flump but the Moonflower Murders just feels
a lot more rushed & a bit too hammy to boot!
The 2nd series also just lacks the charm of the 1st (which had a certain very addictive magic about it)
Mainly though, I haven't rated it as well (so far anyway!) because of the convoluted & very confusing storyline plus the terrible hammy
acting & dreadful accents of some of the cast members.
Even the wonderful Leslie wasn't her normal sparkling self in the 1st episode of the new series. ( watching number 2 tonight possibly)
Sooo I may .....armed with a smattering of mince pies, quavers & some nice beer give it another Punt! 🙃

Confusing though it is, I'm really enjoying it.

We're loving it. Lesley Manville's outfits are fantastic, and so is she. I really like the two stories running side by side, using the same actors. DH was getting confused so I had to tell him how to recognise which was the story from the book, and which was the real murder. I love anything written by Anthony Horowitz so a huge win for me.

"Don't like it!"
In the words of the Little Britain character Matt Lucas!
Magpie Murders was great & fresh as well as being charming & very watchable. Moonflower Murders is a poor attempt at following up on the success of the engaging original drama series. Moonflower Murders is really such a let-down; drippy characters & terrible hammy acting to boot!
I watched the 1st episode but I will not waste my time watching anymore of this silly, poorly- acted farce. 🙄

I am reading the book concurrently with the episodes, and it certainly helps! What a talented writer Anthony Horowitz is, screen and book,

I have just finished the book, having ordered it from the library when I read about this series.

Only started watching after reading it.

Am pleased I did it in this order. Otherwise I would have been baffled with the plot.

I, of course, know how it ends, but no matter.

I agree that Lesley Manville looks not quite right in her hairstyle and dress somehow.

I'd definitely watch the Magpie Murders first -to understand the context of what is going on

Aveline Sat 23-Nov-24 19:53:03

I'm pretty confused although I do know what's supposed to be going on. I don't think Lesley Manville suits her hair and style of dress. Sadly looking slightly mutton dressed as lamb and she is usually just lovely.

I think it helps if you can watch 2 episodes at a time. I loved the books but the two stories running alongside each other can get confusing.

Just finished the series and I think it all became clear by the end.
Love Lesley Manville's wardrobe.

Have now watched the first two episodes and really enjoying it.

There is a story within a story and it is necessary to engage brain!

Loved Magpie Murders and love this series too.
So refreshing to have 'cosy crime' which doesn't spell every last detail out several times in capital letters by having characters deliver unlikely and unconvincing dialogue (thoroughly recommend the less cosy Ellis for the same reason)

Has anybody got a clue what’s going on so far? 😂

I’m glad I’m not the only one, I have watched two episodes and am finding the two different story lines confusing thus far.

Unusual for me, but have just binge watched Moonflower Murders. Well I did have a pile of ironing to do!!. Afterwards just carried on with watching it. Really good series, but found it very confusing at first, still once in the swing of it couldn't stop. Love the costumes , scenery, and Leslie Manville is excellent. Normally don't watch bbc, but this was worth it.

I’ve loved the first two episodes and now realise I can watch it all on I player. Really inventive and I love Lesley manville .

mumski Sun 17-Nov-24 10:23:33

Thank you. I'll give it a go tonight x

merlotgran Sun 17-Nov-24 09:34:35

I watched the first series and found that confusing as well. 😂

I’ll stick with it because I love the cars, clothes and Suffolk.

GeorgeKirrin Sun 17-Nov-24 08:53:43

I think it would be very confusing if you haven't watched Magpie Murders first.
Lesley Manville is a retired publisher who has gone to run a hotel in Crete with her partner. One of the authors she managed was Alan Conroy ( now deceased) who had been writing a series of books featuring a Poirot type detective Atticus Pund.
Lesley gets caught up in mdern day murders which somehow relate to stories Alan wrote. She sees the clues in the books and we have flashbacks to her conversations with Alan to try and piece it together. We also get shown scenes from the book to see what happened and how Atticus worked it out - all to help her solve the current mystery. Atticus also pops up in her imagination sometimes to give her directions.
Hope that helps a little bit but no wonder you are all confused grin

I enjoyed it immensely. I really like the moving about between plots. And Lesley Manville is superb

GrannyGravy13 Sun 17-Nov-24 08:46:28

I enjoyed the first half last night, but was too tired to watch after the news, will watch some more on iPlayer later.

Aveline Sun 17-Nov-24 08:43:51

I was so happy to find this on i-player. Just the sort of thing I fancy watching on a cold Autumn afternoon. Lovely smile

Gingster Sun 17-Nov-24 08:40:33

Im A bit confused with it. I watched the first episode and then the news but was too tired and muddled to watch the next episode.
I watch it again today.

I love the Suffolk connection and recognise place names .

cornergran Sun 17-Nov-24 05:07:55

Mr C enjoyed it, I read my book. Often the way smile.
