Just got to have yet another thread for us to grumble about our favourite soap, warts and all.
I loved Bet & Alec, always got a laugh with those two . I'm liking Emmerdale more atm .
Its failed due to bad scripts, wooden acting, all seedy horrible people, stupid storylines and totally depressing, Women all men handy with their fists, no brains, everyone has slept with someone else. All villians and thieves. Sally, Roy and Ken they are the only ones any good
EastEnders, similarly, tends to focus on a few stories/characters at a time. Seems fine to me.
Shorter and punchy can’t happen easily though. They have contracts for a small number of characters at a time, hence Carla, Swain and Betsy dominating just now, and Todd, Billy and Summer disappearing. Only the oldies on historic contracts are constants. It’s ruining the atmosphere of the show.
I like some of the hard hitting stories as opposed to the old days of Ena and Vera which wasn’t for me however I think sometimes they are wrung out far too long and go on and on personally I find shorter and punchy works better
Be interesting this year to see if it survives the dozen or so character reported leaving and will there be new characters new families or will it drop off the screens, I think this year is the deciding year
Ena Sharples- Evelyn.
Elsie Tanner-Daisy.
Bet Lynch-Gemma.
Albert Tatlock-Roy
Len Fairclough-Kevin.
Florrie Lindley- Dev😂
Ken, Rita, Audrey- just keep playing themselves.
I suggested that upthread - with Tim as Jack Walker 😀. They’d be ideal, but The Rovers has all but died since the new filming regime took hold. As they can only have a small number of cast members on screen at a time, there is no point in having a meeting place where storylines between families or different characters can develop.
I don’t know if it’s possible to go back to whole cast filming, but if not, I think Corrie is in its death throes. The strength was in the characters, and the limitations of the new system is killing it off 😢. There is no comparison between Classic and Modern Corrie, and that’s not sentimentality speaking.
Sally could be a new Annie Walker type...
Ena and Elsie were great, a laugh a minute between them. We need them along with Annie Walker to come back from the dead and shake this lot we have now up.Annie could silence anyone on sight with her withering look.
Come on Corrie writers you have brought characters back from the dead before, or was that Eastenders?
I feel it used to be more about personalities and their clashing
Who else can remember Ena Sharples and Elsie Tanner having a stand off in the Street?
Think Elsie had been receiving poison pen letters, she thought Ena had sent them. They had a ‘handbags at dawn’ scene, when Elsie accused Ena.
Ena shouted “If I had sent them, it would have had Ena Sharples name at the bottom!”
Leaving Elsie with egg on her face.
(Might have remembered this incorrectly, must be sixty odd years ago, but you get the gist!)
No idea who sent the letters either.
Carla has a funny mouth as well.
Probably the same work done as Abi.
Abi's lips have gone very strange, all pouty, particularly from the side view.
I am one of the many Gransnetters who is tiring of the endless miserable crime/prison/ hospital/ transplant stories. There's no excitement of waiting for the next episode.
I've been watching since childhood, apart from my young adult years, so I suppose I am sort of addicted to Corrie, but it really is drab and banal a lot of the time now.
I feel it used to be more about personalities and their clashing, which was a lot easier to identify with.
Charley girl we did see Daisy on the phone to the DNA place. Not very exciting viewing to see people trying to get appointments for anything!
I rarely say that it was a good programme. I usually feel depressed with all that is happening. Some realism should be brought in with people actively seen trying to get a cancellation.
Trouble is Aveline, so often now, it’s not entertaining.
The endless court cases, prison scenarios and hospital visits are cases in point.
Yes, the Mason episode was brilliant, but sadly, these are few and far between.
But we keeeep watching!
Home dialysis machines and short notice DNA tests are available to those with money. The DNA test was due to a cancellation.
Hold your horses everyone. It's not that bad. It's supposed to be entertainment not a documentary. Teams of writers come and go and have to pick up threads and run with them while keeping storylines going.
I enjoyed last night's episode. I'm staying with the Corrie that sometimes excels - vis Mason's recent demise episodes.
I agree. It's gone so off the boil its stone cold now. What a shame.
So within minutes Daisy and Daniel can get a DNA test?
This programme is getting beyond ridiculous.
New script writers needed urgently!
The court looked like someone’s front room and of course the other girl couldn’t be there that was ridiculous
The Toyah scene was totally daft too
I must say I m not even worried if I miss a evening watching now its really got so dire If all the people reported to be leaving during this year do it ll be a complete clean out but the script writers need to go as well
I don’t want to go back to it being a comedy but some more realistic scenes would be preferable
She had just got released but she must have been quickly recruited by Joel’s dad.
Where was Nick when Leanne and Tracy were gobbling their freebie meal?
Why was it left to Toyah to sort out?
Already fed up with Abi and her hallucinations. Why keep saying she’s fine when clearly not?
Why would the other girl who bad mouthed Lauren be in the public gallery?
Wasn’t she in custody with her baby like Lauren is?
Totally fed up with all the Lauren business, wish we could read that she plans on leaving the soap like so many others seem to be doing.
The court scenes were ridiculous and no reflection of actual court procedures.
Just seen a photo of FB of Mason and his Granny so maybe the proud granny who posted on here ….if so you look lovely

Sadly this thread is almost 100% criticism of what are some truly dire plots, and glaring inaccuracies. Tonight we have Lauren allowed to make a speech from the dock, and Dee Dee launching into a lengthy, uninterrupted and touching defence of her friend and client. Would any prosecuting barrister allow this to happen? Also - yes, who gets a dialysis machine of their very own? Hapless and sick individuals often have to travel miles for treatment. Carla has her own.
