Just got to have yet another thread for us to grumble about our favourite soap, warts and all.

grin

BlueBelle Mon 06-Jan-25 21:00:17

Well done Corrie I was in tears all through that (maybe because I m not feeling very well )
I was very fond of Mason and was so pleased he was going to be with Stu making a career
Little Betsy played a blinder
So so sad poor Mason

Calendargirl Mon 06-Jan-25 20:59:37

Oh no, poor Mason!

I didn’t think he would die.

A good episode for once, well, not good obviously, but put across forcibly and realistically.

Doodledog Mon 06-Jan-25 20:58:43

It was very well done.

There are tears in my eyes. Tim's speech at the end did for me - 'They're just kids, Sal. They're just kids.'😢

Calendargirl Mon 06-Jan-25 20:42:32

I think they’ve done this quite well, the flashbacks making us think it was nothing, then you realise he was stabbed.

So sad this is what happens so often now.

Doodledog Mon 06-Jan-25 20:14:04

I knew this would happen! I was determined not to like Mason after his treatment of Dylan, but I've got quite fond of him 😡

Evelyn will be the next lawyer on Coronation Street.Soon the whole street will be full of them
Whose the next one?

Calendargirl Sat 04-Jan-25 18:19:28

I think the likely outcome will be Bethany finds out about the Daniel/Kit baby, and ups and leaves for London or Milan or anywhere really, to pursue her journalistic career.

Sarnia Sat 04-Jan-25 17:22:26

I didn't realise Bethany is pregnant in real life. Will the scriptwriters reveal Bethany being pregnant in the programme? That will make for a long-winded storyline with Daisy not knowing who her baby's father is. Looks like Daniel may get his football team after all.

Calendargirl Sat 04-Jan-25 09:40:13

Yes, the RL pregnancy is obviously a catalyst for some dastardly future plot!

love0c Sat 04-Jan-25 09:37:29

Calendargirl Snap, that's what I guessed. Wonder if they will use this in the soap?

Calendargirl Sat 04-Jan-25 09:35:08

She has been wearing much looser jumpers etc

That’s because she’s pregnant in RL.

Bethany has forgotten all about her stoma.

I did hear on the radio today that there isn’t an age limit to student loans , so someone over 60 could get one and never pay it back as their income would be too low.

Which is exactly what I said above.

Aveline Sat 04-Jan-25 08:58:01

Maybe the uni has to have a set number of older students? Evelyn might have seemed a godsend to them. How she thinks she could manage the reading and essays from a standing start of zero to uni level beats me.

Sarnia Sat 04-Jan-25 08:28:07

My granddaughter applied for 4 uni's last October. She has only just had 3 interviews in the last few weeks and is waiting for the 4th but Evelyn gets her application in one day and an interview the next! Let's have some realism at least.

Charleygirl5 Sat 04-Jan-25 07:53:13

Maybe Tracy will see Cassie overdosing Ken on camera.

I do hope that the transplant is not going to take over the next 6 months +.

I agree, the scriptwriters appear to have very short memories.

Calendargirl Sat 04-Jan-25 07:43:21

I’m the same as you BlueBelle.

We’ve had enough transplants, with Tracy and Carla’s kidneys, and Peter’s liver.

Mason’s ridiculous brothers, and the ongoing saga of Daisy, Daniel and Bethany.

But it fills up three hours a week, not much else on.

BlueBelle Sat 04-Jan-25 05:28:57

I now only look forward to Corrie a) out of habit b) because there’s nothing else on at that time and c)it’s a routine I m so used to
I m really starting to think I losing my loyalty

vegansrock Sat 04-Jan-25 05:05:24

Not another transplant story …..

That may be true for undergraduate courses (I don't know) but loans for postgrad courses stop at age 60, and you can't get one if you already have any qualification at or above that level.

I did an 'interest based' MA at 60, and was the only mature student who paid for it. The others got loans with no intention of paying them off, because they were just under 60 (in one case just a few months younger than me) and had no postgrad qualifications. It was annoying, as the course was expensive, and my previous qualifications were work-based rather than studied for love of the subject.

If anyone is even thinking about taking a postgrad course after retirement, be sure to get in before your 60th birthday, and be prepared to be refused a loan if you already have a Masters or PhD.

Bethany has forgotten all about her stoma.

And so have the Corrie writers. No surprise there.

How could she suddenly get in with absolutely no qualifications? Many unis offer short interest based courses which would be more relevant for her.

Will Evelyn get a student loan ?

She will do. Someone I know went To Uni aged 63 and did her degree. She got her student loan but has never had to pay it back as she did not work afterwards. Big loophole there!
