I did hear on the radio today that there isn’t an age limit to student loans , so someone over 60 could get one and never pay it back as their income would be too low.
That may be true for undergraduate courses (I don't know) but loans for postgrad courses stop at age 60, and you can't get one if you already have any qualification at or above that level.
I did an 'interest based' MA at 60, and was the only mature student who paid for it. The others got loans with no intention of paying them off, because they were just under 60 (in one case just a few months younger than me) and had no postgrad qualifications. It was annoying, as the course was expensive, and my previous qualifications were work-based rather than studied for love of the subject.
If anyone is even thinking about taking a postgrad course after retirement, be sure to get in before your 60th birthday, and be prepared to be refused a loan if you already have a Masters or PhD.
