I have just seen that Rod Stewart is to play on the Legends stage at Glastonbury.

A definite watch for me. On the telly!! I'm nearly as old as Sir Rod!

I wish I had a ticket! I’ll be glued to the TV as well.

Love Rod and he is my Sunday morning listening every weekend. I can’t remember what the event was a couple of years ago but pretty sure it was a royal event that he played live. His voice was very weak and he sang Sweet Caroline. I felt sorry for him actually.

I've seen him on a Jools Holland show and he was pretty good.

Don't really care though. Loved him since his Rod the Mod days which were also Kitty the Mod days (obviously his name rhymed better grin)

We have seen him live and he is a fabulous showman, I have liked him since I was a young teen.

Go Rod 👏👏👏

(His previous Essex home was next to our good friends, he is an absolute gentleman, and frequents the local pub for a blether with the neighbours, as well as one not far from us)

I was in a taxi late one night in Spain going to our hotel. We got settled and the driver played this

It was Rod and an unknown singer called Amy Belle and it was fantastic. Whenever I hear it I think of that hot night in Spain.

I remember queuing all day around The Rainbow Theatre, Finsbury Park with friends to get tickets to see The Faces way back, I remember playing "Every Picture Tells a Story" album endlessly, I think I still have it somewhere. I did like him as a performer in his heyday, not so much now.

My two sisters have been mad about him since he first appeared with The Faces. They and their husbands have been to see him every time he as come to Birmingham. The girls first saw him at The Rainbow Suite in Brum when the tickets were £1. The only exception has been the last time he came when the tickets were ridiculously expensive so they didn't go. My daughter won tickets to see him at Villa Park years ago. She took me. It was good fun.

I saw him at the De Montfort hall many moons ago in the 70s I think. He was amazing. Looking forward to seeing his Glastonbury set.

Yes, he didn't do well at all, but later said that Sweet Caroline was in the wrong key for him ... or something like that. I felt embarrassed for him while watching it.

He may well be losing his voice which most singers do after a certain age, although I hope not. Neil Diamond's voice went so he couldn't have sung Sweet Caroline well now either. The only singer who sounds just the same is Tom Jones.

I think Rod's doing well considering he had prostate and thyroid cancer.

kittylester Tue 26-Nov-24 12:01:39

We have seen him a few times. I have loved them all.

BigBertha1 Tue 26-Nov-24 12:08:52

Such a character - yes we will be watching.

David49 Tue 26-Nov-24 13:44:05

We went to his show at Bristol 5 yrs ago he was on fine form, I’d go to another but not Glastonbury it’s all too crowded, once was enough for me

I’ll go against the flow here and say I think Glasto is scraping the proverbial barrel headlining Rod Stewart. He sounded awful years ago so don’t think he will have an improved voice now.
They seem to like those past their sell by dates.

Kate1949 Tue 26-Nov-24 14:37:06

I'm not sure he's headlining. As kitty says, he's doing the Legends slot. The crowd, young and old, will enjoy a good old sing along like they do with all the old rockers. It will be great I'm sure.

‘Maggie May’. I only have to hear the opening chords and I’m right back in 1971, fresh out of college and starting work having just met Himself. Gloriously happy days of my youth.

“ Wake up, Maggie, I think I got somethin' to say to you 🎵 🎶
It's late September and I really should be back at school
I know I keep you amused, but I feel I'm being used
Oh, Maggie, I couldn't have tried any more
You led me away from home
Just to save you from being alone
You stole my heart and that's what really hurts
The mornin' sun when it's in your face really shows your age
But that don't worry me none, in my eyes, you're everything
I laughed at all of your jokes, my love, you didn't need to coax
Oh, Maggie, I couldn't have tried any more”

NotAGran55 Tue 26-Nov-24 14:55:38

I last saw Rod at the Jeff Beck tribute gig last year at the RAH and he was in fine form.
The entire gig is on YouTube for those who are interested.

NotAGran55 Tue 26-Nov-24 14:56:32

Another one

Primrose53 Tue 26-Nov-24 16:42:35

What I really admire about Rod is he has aged well. He doesn’t try to dress like a teenager in ripped jeans, bandanas etc. he wears stylish age appropriate gear. David Bowie could pull off that look too.

The Legends slot on the Sunday afternoon is now as popular as the main headliners. The crowd has a whale of a time and the security men dancing at the front to their own routine has become a regular feature.

I hope Rod does OK. I hate it when our idols sound weak and tuneless but I think they now overcome this with guest appearances singing alongside them and great backing singers.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 26-Nov-24 17:56:19

Love him! I've seen him many times and think he is a legend, without a doubt.

Bridie22 Tue 26-Nov-24 18:15:39

Good choice for the Legend slot 👍

Skydancer Tue 26-Nov-24 18:36:18

It’s time he retired.

MissAdventure Tue 26-Nov-24 18:57:15

I can take him or leave him, but I do think he is better as a crooner, as he is nowadays, from what I've seen.
