Camilla, the Wicked Stepmother?

I watched this on Channel 4, but it was mostly a rehash of what has gone before. What did amuse me was Harry up there on the moral high ground about members of his family ( Camilla, we are to assume) getting ‘into bed with the devil’ and briefing the tabloids, when his mother was the biggest manipulator of the press ever!

The late Duke of Windsor visited Nazi Germany in October 1937. Hitler made an enormous fuss of the ex King. This was of course before WW2 and before the horrors of the Nazi regime unfolded. A lot of people in Europe and the UK admired Hitler for having pulled a defeated and demoralized Germany out of devastation after its defeat and extortionate reparations following WW1. No other members of the RF either admired or visited Nazi Germany, in fact they rather mocked them particularly the Goose Stepping as can be seen in old film. How can they be trimmed down? As for pretentious! Actually they are not, any more than other European countries.

How can a family be trimmed down ? You have spoken of
three generations, the past cannot be erased

The royals have been a pretty poisonous bunch from time immemorial … weren’t some colluding with the natzi regime? then we have Andrew and his affairs Many, many insinuations that Philip was not always faithful. Poor old Margaret and her very damaged love life Diane was no saint just totally wrong for Charles and a bit wild under the demur demeanour

I don’t hate them just think they’ve got as many flaws as us all and nothing to be adored and after I read about the money stacked away charging NHS and the services, RNLB etc large amounts of money for land they use they have definitely dropped a couple of rungs lower in my books
I don’t think Charles is any worse than any of them
We should have a much much much trimmed down RF and much much less pretentious, like other countries

For the truth about the relationship between Prince Harry and the tabloid press, I recommend ‘The Palace Papers’ by Tina Brown. Worth reading for its Princess Margaret stories too.

Sorry didn’t see the blessing, remember her dress, thank heaven she did do a Megan and wear virginal white

There's as much "spin" going on in Royal households as there is in Downing Street. They all employ top PR people and probably have little to do with what is "leaked" or even posted on their SM.

By the time she became a stepmother both those boys were old enough and had enough savvy people surrounding them to create their own narrative.

Harry decided to run with the "I'm the victim" story. William kept schtum.

Most families have some sort of dysfunctional element. Some more than others.

The blessing in St George’s chapel, Windsor was televised.

MissAdventure Fri 29-Nov-24 19:35:56

Ah well, I didn't miss much, then smile

Anniebach Fri 29-Nov-24 19:32:29

Registrars wedding and church blessing not televised, some photographs

MissAdventure Fri 29-Nov-24 19:20:38

I can't say I thought anything at all, frankly, apart from how crumpled Diana's dress was.

I didn't watch Charles and Camilla.

Anniebach Fri 29-Nov-24 19:17:26

Did you think there would be ?

MissAdventure Fri 29-Nov-24 18:14:00

No travesty there, then.
Phew.

What colour did Charles wear?
Either wedding will do...

To Diana - his full dress Royal Naval uniform

To Camilla - morning dress I think

She got to married to Charles in a white dress... the symbol of purity... what a travesty!

The Queen (E11) wore white although she did not attend the actual ceremony.
Camilla wore pale blue.

When I read The Crown was playing The Aberfan Disaster
I joined to view that, such lies, I never watched anymore after that one episode,

Judging by the 'facts' on this thread, methinks that some of you have been watching that famous work of fiction, 'The Crown'.

But it made great TV, I think most of us recognised it was only based on events and every conversation was dramatically created, after all who would really know what went on behind closed doors.

As for Diana, she was damaged long before she married Charles, and yes, she did grow to be very manipulative and bitter and unwell.

Yes, it was entertaining, however it's surprising, how many people quote events from the show as fact.
What I was actually meant in my post, was that some need to check their 'facts' whether gleaned from Netflix or other sources.
'The Crown's fiction wasn't only about conversations behind closed doors, though, many events were invented.
Netflix didn't make clear that it was fictional, they said calling it a drama was enough, and refused, when called upon by culture secretary, Oliver Dowden, to add a disclaimer.
I agree about Diana, she had issues before she met Charles.
I also think they were in love in the early years of their marriage.

Anniebach Fri 29-Nov-24 10:57:46

Cannot agree, she was certainly spot on with front page spreads , what is so sad is her desire for this caused her death

MissAdventure Fri 29-Nov-24 10:43:31

Well, I expect most adults have made unwise decisions.
All the moreso if they've nobody to turn to.

The scammers thread is proof of that.

Anniebach Fri 29-Nov-24 10:41:48

Yes, but she chose to take her sons to holiday with Al Fayed before Dodi came on the scene, all those photographs of her and her sons on a beach, poor woman

MissAdventure Fri 29-Nov-24 10:35:51

I think with Dodi, too, she was what his father considered a way into being accepted as an English gentleman, and the chance to live the life he hankered after in society.

Anniebach Fri 29-Nov-24 10:31:54

The following made me nauseous, Diana’s father standing outside the gates of Buck House gave an interview, he spoke of
Diana being a perfectly formed baby , i really believe she won the top prize for her father

MissAdventure Fri 29-Nov-24 10:26:17

I thinkshe had a very lonely childhood, left to her own devices for much of the time.

It's only what I gleaned from the book, though, so perhaps that's a load of rubbish.

Anniebach Fri 29-Nov-24 10:15:14

Diana was damaged before she married, poor woman, an eating disorder whilst still at school. Much has been said of
her parents desperate for a son , did she sense this ?

You only have to see the King and Queen (consort) together to see the connection along with how much love and respect they have for each other.

When you look back at footage of Prince Charles and Diana the connection is not visible.

1,000’s of people divorce for a multitude of reasons, 1,000’s go on to find the one and lead very happy lives, the royals are no different in this respect.

I think the salient point here is Charles had already “found the one” !
