Remember When Saint Cliff Richard Dominated Christmas?

The number 1 slot in the charts was almost reserved for him. But he's vanished completely.

I did spot an article about him just a couple of months back and the accompanying photo was not flattering by any means. Age seems to have caught up with him, as it does with all of us.

I sat behind Cliff Richard on a plane from Portugal. He has property there and the airline crew said he flew frequently with them and he was a real gentleman. He sat quietly throughout the flight, just playing on his iPad and never demanding anything from the stewardess. At the end of the flight, he was more than happy to have a photograph with me and got his manager to take it.
He couldn't have been nicer and can't believe anyone would call him creepy. What a disgusting comment from someone who probably never met him

I agree.

mae13 what a horrible thread
Made worse by some posters.

I think that dreadful (and as it turned out, unnecessary) investigation aged him by years. And even then he looks good for his age. I wasn't a fan of most of his music, it's not my sort of thing, but I have no reason to believe he's not a decent person.

He only had the Christmas number one twice on his own, and once with The Shadows. Hardly dominating.
The Beetles and LadBaby have more.

He is doing two gigs at The Royal Albert Hall next year btw.

Was this started intentionally as a Cliff bashing thread?

Seems like it. Personally I could take him or leave him but DM loved him.

He hasn't vanished completely. He still tours - and brings out a calendar (no, I've never bought one, I saw one in a shop last week!)

LadBaby Media Influencers who made everyone laugh during Covid. Very successfully. Recorded 4 Christmas number ones that made a lot of money for charity Trestle Trust that provides Food Bank to lots of people. They used to live in Hemel Hempstead but moved to Nottingham. They still are media influencers and have now written some books about a sausage roll for children and have just released their Autobiography telling the story of how they got famous.

I’m confused. And clearly missing something.

What has this to do with Cliff Richard?
Who or what are the “Media Influencers” ?
And did you mean Trussell Trust* ?

It's about who had the most Xmas No 1s - mentioned earlier in the thread.

Never liked him- and always found him creepy (and for good reasons).

I'm in total agreement 🤝

Me too. He’s very up himself, isn’t he?

What horrible comments.

The last time I saw Cliff was in the 80s at Knebworth. There was a crowd of 120,000 and virtually everyone there used his set to go and get a drink or use the portaloos.

Really?

He was there in 1990 with the same size attendance and the crowd didn’t seem to be making a break for the toilet or a drink. I didn’t notice a rush for the portaloos and drinks during any of the other acts either. People came and went, depending on how much they liked a particular act. I probably missed Pink Floyd, but it’s so long ago . . .

The crowds at Knebworth for that silver clef event were so big that it’s unlikely I’d have noticed a few. or even a lot of people moving away.

Trying to imagine almost 120 thousand rushing to the loos, difficult to imagine , too difficult to believe

Have a go at Cliff why don't youse!!! Leave the man alone. There's enough slagging off of other blokes without dragging Cliff into it! Merry Christmas!

I am not a fan but he has done nothing wrong has he but get old, he cant be Peter Pan for ever. If men said that about a woman hell would break loose. Not liking someone is no excuse

Back in the 1970's when I sang in my school choir we appeared on his show one Sunday night. We met him at the afternoon rehearsal bsfore the recording in the evening. He was pleasant and friendly in the afternoon, relaxing in jeans and a shirt, but the consumate performer in the evening, complete with glittery suit! Overall he's a nice guy. His music may not be to everyone's taste but he gets too much unfair criticism.

Rumours has it, Elvis liked very young girls - but that’s it, it’s just a rumour!

Well, he did meet Priscilla when she was just 14...

I hope that nobody close to or related to Cliff reads these comments. They would be devastated.

crazyH Wed 04-Dec-24 15:16:00

Cliff Richard was ok but I adored Elvis

HeavenLeigh Wed 04-Dec-24 15:08:25

Not a fan of Cliff Richard I’ve seen him in interviewed and found him arrogant . Must admit I did like devil woman one of his hits

TanaMa Wed 04-Dec-24 15:01:00

Why such a nasty 'he looks old' comment? The man is in his 80s and does, at least, look like Cliff Richard, no some botox injected, plastic surgery horror figure. Not sure how old the GN commentor is, but surely she doesn't look the same as the years pass!!
