Wallace and Gromit Sitting Room.

I just love this Christmas scene that precedes the BBC News and probably other programmes as well.

An old fashioned sitting room ready for Christmas, with a good fire burning, paper chains hanging from the picture rails, comfy seating and lamps lit.

Makes me think of years gone by and nostalgic for it all, although our home didn’t look quite as cosy as that idyllic scene.

Have just seen the Wallace and Grommit advert, love the set, including the mugs, reminds me of Grandma's sitting room, warm and cosy. Mind you my granddaughter said the same about mine, what a compliment. No floral sofas though. Looking forward to seeing it Christmas Day.

I think it’s time that antimacassars made a come back.🤭

Calendargirl Mon 09-Dec-24 06:52:29

I have antimacassars on my three piece suite!

Now they are called chairbacks.

I am obviously a trendsetter, along with W&G.

Whatever happened to paper chains, it kept us busy for hours.
Love Wallace and Gromit but has anyone seen the funky Pigeon Advert, it great.

MissAdventure Mon 09-Dec-24 09:33:06

They tasted horrible, the paper chains.
We were easily pleased; I can remember being almost beside myself with glee when the decorations were got out (again!!)

A friend bought some paper chains to make with her little GD.

She said they don’t have the sticky ends you lick, she was having to use prit stick to hold them together.

I have made paperchains recently.
I sliced paper into strips and glued them.
I also made some (easy) paper stars:

I love the youtube crafts. smile

I looked these up as they are traditional in the Philippines where we now have family connections.

They are so lightweight and dainty - and really easy!

Calendargirl

No it won’t.

Who is doing the voice for Wallace?

A voice actor called Ben Whitehead is doing it. He sounds just like Peter Sallis - it's amazing!

Calendargirl, I just adore it as well. I was so excited the first time I saw it and rewound it to show my husband!

Bazza Mon 09-Dec-24 12:14:25

I thought exactly the same thing Calendargirl but can’t quite figure out why I find it so appealing!

It looks cosy, safe, simple, traditional.

How we like to imagine Christmas really is (or was).

Then reality hits and comes along and spoils it all (especially when the News follows).

sad

How true! Yes I guess that’s the reason.

I love W&G and on our recent trip to London noticed that Barbour on Regents Street have a big W&G and Shaun the Sheep display. Good to hear about the new Christmas Day W&G film.

It’s on Christmas Day but don’t know what time, I think I’ll record it.
The Christmas Eve ghost story on BBC1 is a Mark Gattis adaptation of the short story by E Nesbitt called Man -sized In Marble, tho the title may be changed by Gatiss. It’s a good short story and all her spooky stories , or most of them at any rate, are worth reading, just perfect for these Winter nights.
If you have a Kindle then I noticed the other day you can buy the lot for 80p!

I love the Christmas Eve ghost stories and am so pleased that Mark Gattis had revived them

Lost Hearts was on the Talking Pictures channel last night. I was made in 1973 and I remember watching as a teenager with my friend. It frightened us both to death. I have never forgotten it. It was still just as creepy when I watched it last night

MissAdventure Mon 09-Dec-24 17:05:26

Ooh what a treat!
I love a good old spooky ghost story too.

Oreo Mon 09-Dec-24 17:18:43

With that particular E Nesbitt story, no spoilers but it can be read in two ways. The first time I read it I thought it a straight forward sort of ghost story, but the second time I read it I noticed clues spread throughout it.How Mark Gatiss will interpret it is unknown.

I do too, but I only really like weird, spooky, chilling and not actual horror, something that gives you a shiver and makes you think.

MissAdventure Mon 09-Dec-24 17:22:43

Oh yes, attics, rocking chairs, candles which blow out as soon as you go into the cellar... ooh error..

Oreo Mon 09-Dec-24 17:27:23

Never go into the cellar! Never say ‘ooh what was that strange noise, I’ll go and investigate it’ never wear a white floaty dress and run through a wood😁

Madmeg Mon 09-Dec-24 17:28:02

W & G is on BBC at 6.10 p.m. We are spending the day with our DD and DSiL at their Bristol home, so it will be a TV priority for us all. Aardman are based in Bristol.

MissAdventure Mon 09-Dec-24 17:31:04

Never wear a vest top with no bra, and a pair of knickers to bed, because you just will end up running barefoot and breathless through the woods.

And NEVER but never say "Hello... is there anybody there?"

Oreo Mon 09-Dec-24 17:32:22

🤣
