I never watched this when it was aired - only ever saw bits of it on Gogglebox.

However, I finally gave in to all the hype and have watched the box set on iplayer.

Apart from Pam & Mick, I don't really find any of the other characters either particularly likeable, or particularly interesting. I don't hate it but I can think of a lot more programmes I'd rather watch.

Are there any diehard fans on here? I'm sure I must be in the minority given all the fuss about the Christmas programme.

Chav definition:

"The term is used to describe an anti-social lower-class youth dressed in sportswear"

Oh dear, I'm not a youth any longer.
I might have a pair of trainers somewhere.

MissAdventure Fri 27-Dec-24 14:45:51

grin chavtastic!

Allira Fri 27-Dec-24 14:51:23

I'd describe that wedding dress as chavvy
I know I'm a SNOB but I still loved it - it was just right! 😂

I'm just picturing hordes of grannies, with their jogging buttons showing their knickers, in hoodies, slumped in front of the TV, with the Nike Air Max trainers up on the coffee tables.

I was working abroad when the series was on so never saw it. On return to the UK I started watching on Iplayer and was hooked from the start, this last episode was brilliant, funny, yet sad, the perfect last episode.

Well then I cannot possibly be a chav. I only drink White Lightning.

It was well worth waiting for and did not disappoint! A fitting end to a well loved series.

It's still cider, innit?

I love the show and rate it up there with Only Fools and Horses in the best ever comedy stakes, BUT my criticism of the last show is that I found the Gwen/Dave Coaches romance totally unbelievable, especially when he called her one of his nicknames he always called Ness - Sugar tits!!! I also found it very unrealistic when they were chasing to the docks, that no-one thought of phoning Nessa!!! Apart from those, everything else was just brilliant!

Labadi0747 Fri 27-Dec-24 15:38:55

Watched the finale. Brilliant
Was overseas when it 1 st started so I’m happily on series 1 ~ & now doing 1 episode a day 👍
Can’t believe nothing was made of the Harrods comment all those years ago !

Yes the invention of mobile phones has ruined dramatic endings a little.

KaazaK Fri 27-Dec-24 15:41:35

Never watched it so don’t get the hype! I don’t watch Strictly either. I do find it slightly irritating when a programme attracts loads of media hype, is actually on the news sometimes. Like it’s taken for granted that everyone watches it. I did love Wallace and Gromit though!

sweetcakes Fri 27-Dec-24 16:02:57

Loved it.

Never seen one from beginning to end, never got it, don't understand the hype, sorry!

Do you think anyone cares 🤷‍♀️

HeavenLeigh Fri 27-Dec-24 16:10:47

never ever watched it

And ?

My husband and I were watching it with my son who is in his early 20's. It is one of the few programmes which we can all laugh at and enjoy. It's a bit like The Royal Family where the observation of certain groups of people is just so spot on. We love it even though some bits of the plot were so predicable.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 27-Dec-24 16:31:18

I think you mean ‘Royle family’!
Or perhaps you didn’t …. 🤣

Alison Steadman is a really good actor but I agree that Pam as a character is grating.

Could you recommend something she's been in that might change my mind? I've seen her in Abigail's Party (young Pamela?) Pride and Prejudice (old fashioned Pamela?) and G&S as Pamela and they all seem the same to me, loud, not very bright woman who thinks a lot of herself just wearing different clothes. I'd love to see her in something where she is totally different and I could see her as a really good actor.

She was in the Mike Leigh film 'Life is Sweet' and played a truly unpleasant woman

Susieq62 Fri 27-Dec-24 16:45:29

Totally brilliant!!! Such good acting

brittaniagirl Fri 27-Dec-24 17:12:35

I liked Stella better, Ruth was amazing in that, it’s still on sky i think, the depth of characters and the writing was brilliant, similar street also set in Wales
