I never watched this when it was aired - only ever saw bits of it on Gogglebox.

However, I finally gave in to all the hype and have watched the box set on iplayer.

Apart from Pam & Mick, I don't really find any of the other characters either particularly likeable, or particularly interesting. I don't hate it but I can think of a lot more programmes I'd rather watch.

Are there any diehard fans on here? I'm sure I must be in the minority given all the fuss about the Christmas programme.

We have just rewatched all of them. I agree that Smithy has to say yes.

On the news this this morning they showed a clip that gave a clue 😉

It’s our absolute family favourite, we quote lines at each other all the time. The cast are doing a one off Radio 2 breakfast show on 23rd December, and to quote Bryn, I for one can’t wait.
Here’s the late, lamented Doris with a classic moment for the fans - she breaks every pensioner stereotype, which I love.

And Bryn who “has a fascination with technology - not to mention modern life in general” - which he finds a constant source of remarkable wonder..

I bloody loves it

GrandmaKT Tue 10-Dec-24 20:44:50

Another fan here. I just hope they don't release any spoilers before the show!

It’s cracking!

Beechnut Tue 10-Dec-24 21:12:29

I Love Doris.

Poppyred Tue 10-Dec-24 21:18:07

Decided to watch an episode to see what all the fuss was about……….still don’t know. 🤔

Beechnut Tue 10-Dec-24 21:23:00

I’d say you’d have to watch more than one episode Poppyred, probably a whole series and then decide.

Jaxjacky Tue 10-Dec-24 21:33:23

My daughter is re watching an episode a day to build up to this one.

Oldbat1 Tue 10-Dec-24 21:36:07

Weve watched it from the beginning a few times. Looking forward to the Christmas one.

Casdon Tue 10-Dec-24 21:40:10

We’ll be binge watching when my daughter and SiL come home for Christmas. Possibly accompanied by a white Toblerone, but sadly, no Mint Baileys.

Sara1954 Tue 10-Dec-24 21:53:27

I quite like it, the characters are so well written, apart from Gavin and Stacey who are a bit drippy.
I will be watching at Christmas, and I hope he says yes,

Poppyred Tue 10-Dec-24 22:06:18

Life’s too short Beechnut

MissAdventure Tue 10-Dec-24 22:08:33

I've never watched it at all, but feel ive missed out, the more I hear of it.

Never!

Bryn: “I cannot speak the Welsh language. It’s a constant source of embarrassment to me, but Welsh is not my mother tongue.”
Mick: “Now, why is that, Bryn? Cos, every time I’ve been down there it seems none of you can speak it. I mean, you spend all that money on them signs and none of you can read ’em.”

GrannyIvy Tue 10-Dec-24 22:11:59

I love it, not many good comedy programmes around these days are there.

I love Pam and Michael's weird friends, Dawn and Pete.
But Bryn is my favourite character, along with Nessa.

The Islands In The Stream karaoke is brilliant.

Tidy!

Soozikinzi Wed 11-Dec-24 04:30:17

We love it . I think the point is that the characters are flawed not like the usual sit com characters . Pam and Mick are brilliant though .

flappergirl Wed 11-Dec-24 12:03:38

I realise that the characters are flawed and quirky but I honestly can't stand Pam. She's absolutely obnoxious, shallow and spoilt. In reality, I'm sure a bloke like Mick would've slung his hook by now. But everyone else seems to think she's great, so what do I know1

Witzend Wed 11-Dec-24 12:11:01

Only found it on catch-up ages after it was first aired.
Love it! And will be recording the Christmas finale to enjoy in P&Q a bit later.

Labradora Wed 11-Dec-24 12:13:41

I really like it. Smithy and Nessa are a much more interesting love story than gavin and stacey.

Absolutely right although the Gavin and Stacey story holds it all together.
An absolute gem of a series.
Love 'em all but particularly loved Nessa.
I agree there's nothing wrong with a pint of wine...... in theory..... but I'd struggle a bit these days........

llizzie2 Wed 11-Dec-24 12:24:27

You are right. It's hype. It has been marketed to convince the public that they should be enjoying it. The actors were not particularly great or famous. They were acting in a series which would not be aired now, before they put on this show.

It is mild, and uncontentious, which is probably what attracts people. There are not many programmes of 'ordinary life' that some viewers consider this to be.

I assume it is often repeated to give these actors a little bit of income from royalties.
