I never watched this when it was aired - only ever saw bits of it on Gogglebox.

However, I finally gave in to all the hype and have watched the box set on iplayer.

Apart from Pam & Mick, I don't really find any of the other characters either particularly likeable, or particularly interesting. I don't hate it but I can think of a lot more programmes I'd rather watch.

Are there any diehard fans on here? I'm sure I must be in the minority given all the fuss about the Christmas programme.

We didn’t watch it first time round, but when it was repeated, we enjoyed the first episode, so sat through the next three. We’d never done that before. Looking forward to the last one.

I’m so disappointed that you’ve never watched it, not.

Gavin and Stacey is one of the few TV shows I never get fed up of watching -it always seems to be popping up on one TV channel or another and before I know it I’m hooked again.

I love it. The humour is gentle, the acting good and it is something both my husband and I are happy to watch. Taxi....!

I've obviously jumped the gun, and just thought it was not my kind of thing.
I need to watch it now, and find out if it is.

I love it ,so many fab one liners probably my favourite - if you want a bhuna order a bhuna- that episode was so like my house when we have a take away

Give it a go MissA and stick with it.

You've got a sharp sense of humour so it could well be up your street.

I've not seen a decent, human comedy, with relatable characters for ages. smile

Thanks.

We are like that with Schitts Creek. We are now on our 4th re-run.
Maybe it’s something to do with my huge crush on Dan Levy.

How can you resist this. I can’t count how many times I’ve watched him in this scene from the show.
There is one episode where he sings it in his own voice.
My daughter reckons she could turn him 😂

Can any Welsh GNs explain, "Hello I'm Owain Hughes. Before you ask me, no I don't. "?

I live in the town where it was filmed, I love it and will definitely be watching x

HiPpyChick57 Thu 12-Dec-24 07:00:28

Love it. I live 15 miles away from Barry Island where it was filmed.
I can’t wait for the finale, and I’ll tell you for why. I want to know what happened on the fishing trip and of course if Smithy says yes. I hopes he do.

TillyWhiz Thu 12-Dec-24 07:41:58

I'm on my own Christmas Day but got it all planned and definitely the Gavin & Stacey finale. It's such typical British humour with all the characters bringing something to the story. It's gentle too, no violence, no nastiness.

twiglet77 Thu 12-Dec-24 09:45:53

I love it and never tire of the regular re-runs. The first Christmas special was underwhelming though, with only the core cast, and I’m not expecting the new one to be any better - the ship had sailed and the chemistry has gone, it’s a shame to try and force it. The last one should have wound things up and not been left on a question.

I still can’t get over Nessa’s comments about Mohamed al Fayed in series 1. It was filmed in 2007 so he was still alive. Why didn’t he go after the BBC? Is it because he knew they already had a lot on him and was advised to let it go? What about his victims who might have been fans of G&S and watched the episode. Their jaws must have dropped!

These days a ‘hint’ like that would be all over the media the following day.

Athrawes Thu 12-Dec-24 10:25:52

I enjoy Gavin and Stacey too. I love the Welsh tilt. I hope it ends happily
