A new series of Strike begins next Monday on BBC 1 at 9pm, I am looking forward to it.

One more episode to go. I hope Strike and Holly get together. So far managed to cling on to the characters and plot. Very dark though

Bored rigid so won’t be watching episode 3. Like the main characters though.

I gave up on the book but will be interested to see how this pans out on tv.

I think the first bit of the book is hard work, but imo it's worth the effort of ploughing on. DS said on Tuesday he loved the book, but is going to binge watch next week. I will too

I think it became more interesting as the story progressed.. and found the art school scenes really amusing.. I absolutely love the secretary

Doesn't Holliday look gorgeous with that black wig and the scarlet lippy!

Sorry but I really have to disagree. I find Ms Granger very uptight
& prissy-looking. I think Mr Strike would prefer a more relaxed and naturally sensual - looking lady ? 🤔

Farzanah Tue 24-Dec-24 16:00:08

I think that the point is Ilovedogs is that MsGranger is not the archetypical “sensual” lady, but is portrayed as a strong independent woman. Opposite of the temperamental and shallow beauties he’s had in the past.
He is attracted to her for that reason.

Do you like reading BlueBelle?

If so, I really recommend getting the ‘Strike’ books from the library, in order, starting with ‘The Cuckoo’s Calling’.

They are long books, but very readable, IMHO.

The tv series has to be condensed to get it all in.

(This is assuming you haven’t already read them, of course)

🤔

It is so good to see Ruth Sheen in this series, as the office manager. In the next book, The Running Grave, there is a lot more about her and also more about Strike’s feelings for Robin. Delicious !
I do love these books ……..but this one, the Ink Black Heart, is a failure i.m.o. But the TV version has been done well, somebody has done some skilful editing.

Farzanah Tue 24-Dec-24 17:39:07

I am a great fan of the Strike books but the Ink Black Heart was not as good imo because of multiple pages of internet communication about the flipping game. It was edited a lot for the TV adaptation, but there were too many characters for those who hadn’t read the book to follow easily I think.

Calendargirl Tue 24-Dec-24 17:57:38

There were too many characters for the readers to follow, never mind the tv version.

I think the tv version was much easier to follow actually, rather than the book.

When I re-read the book, I just skipped all the internet conversations. They were superfluous.

i was put off the book by the reviews and didnt buy it but glad I watched this - will have to get the book now

Calandergirl I ve loved all the other Stike series I was really looking forward to this one and it’s disappointed me

No I m no longer a great reader eyes are not brilliant

I love all the Strike books and have enjoyed all the tv series. I wondered how the new series would deal with the internet chat and it’s a relief to see how they’ve dodged the chat threads. The plot of the Ink Black Heart is so dense that I think it could have done with another episode or two.
My husband is watching on catch up so I’m watching each episode for a second time.
Looking forward to tonight’s denouement.

I was so looking forward to this Strike series, but it has been hard to follow. There are too many characters, and I have no idea who Anomie actually is because I do not remember seeing him before. I will not mention his name in case others have not watched it yet.

Calendargirl Wed 25-Dec-24 07:01:45

You are ok to mention names after it has been shown in real time Charleygirl.

It’s when binge watchers divulge details before programmes have been aired that spoils things.

Jaxjacky Wed 25-Dec-24 07:55:56

A brilliant TV interpretation of the book, which was hard going at times.
I was shouting at the TV though, ‘go on Robin’ ‘ say something Cormorant ’ to no avail!!

J52 Wed 25-Dec-24 07:57:10

Not wanting to spoil the ending, but my heart was in my mouth about 5 mins before it finished. I was almost in tears!

Me too.
I thought from the title that you meant train/junior doctors/teachers strike…😂

So did I!

We have enjoyed the previous series, and were looking forward to this, which certainly didn't disappoint!

We watched this over the last 4 nights, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Neither of us have read the books ( yet ), so couldn't make a comparison. Lots of characters, so we did pause it occasionally to say " Who was that? "!

I think the casting is very good, love the chemistry between Strike and Robin. Like Jaxjacky I was shouting at the screen last night - " Come on, one of you say something, please!"

We have followed Tom Burke since he appeared in The Musketeers some years ago - another great series! Also love his fellow Musketeer, Howard Charles, in Whitstable Pearl. Neither of them can get their love life together!

Sorry to sound like an ad for Audible, but honestly BlueBelle the Strike books on Audible are excellent, and very well read by Robert Glenister. (My contract is £8/month and Ink Black Heart is 32hrs long! Eight quid for 32hrs!!!)
