Wallace and Grommit, well disappointing. Normally watch speech, from what I've heard pleased I didn't, anyway too busy playing silly games with family.
Who really cares.

HowVeryDareYou2 Fri 27-Dec-24 09:26:15

I don't like ANY of those programmes. I thought the programmes on tv were tripe.

ronib the thread is about which TV shows were popular with the public as a whole. I highly doubt the same people were watching TV all day, most were probably just like you and only watched one or two selected programmes - which is why the viewing figures are impressive?

Ok I take your point about the thread being about the most popular. I suppose I was looking at the days offering as a whole. The only thing I circled to watch was Wallace.

There was nothing else of interest to me.

Regardless of personal social conditions, I still think Downton Abbey with a death plus questions about paternity not the best story line for Xmas Day.

Call The Midwife always hits the spot - even though it shows a pure fantasy version of life in 60s Poplar. I loved it when Mrs Turner turned on the TV and the lovely clear picture appeared instantly!

Yes thank you BlueBell , the staff were great

many people were alone or in small family groups and weren’t in the middle of big full in celebrations
Don’t forget not everyone has the same life on offer

I live in a nursing home so have much time for tv and audio books. Never Netflix, The Crown !

How did anyone find time to watch tv? I eventually sank into my chair to watch Downton Abbey and thought it was really depressing. Too tired to turn it off!

Remember the many people alone for whom the tv was their company as well as entertainment. They had all the time in the world.

We very rarely now watch BBC. Sometimes BBC 2 or 4, and often iplayer. Hate game shows and ‘entertainment’. Netflix occasionally, but that is not as it was. But there is another option, which is switch it off and read a book

Oreo not everyone can afford all the other channels as well as BBC. I only have Netflix and rarely watch, always find something on the Beeb. We all have varied taste! So far I have watched very little TV just W&G but was not much entertained.

We do all have varied taste, which is why I only chose to watch two of those listed BBC programmes 😃
We don’t have holidays or new cars or eat out very often so the tv channels are our treat.I can usually find all I want on Netflix mind you.
W and G is always funny and well done, did you spot the homage to various films in it, ending with The Italian Job?😄

People who like game shows and soaps. There doesn’t seem to be much else ☹️

Well, apparently the lowest common denominator watch Gavin and Stacey.

They might also watch Only Connect, Mastermind and University Challenge and know the answers so in which category do they fit? confused

Wot, even thems with a ology watch it 😱 gawed elp us.

You just can’t resist yet another dig at anything you consider remotely English, can you Paddyann.

Even the Welsh! 😯

That’s what I mean. Mostly game shows and soaps. I don’t line either. So there’s nothing much for me.

If you read my post above yours Lathyrus you’ll see that your preconception is wrong. There was one soap, with two episodes, and one game show, in the top ten viewed programmes. That does not, by any stretch, constitute a majority of the most popular programmes.

GrannyIvy Thu 26-Dec-24 21:08:47

I am going to watch Gavin & Stacey again😂 looking forward to outnumbered tonight. Just watched Strictly Christmas and it was showy and fun.

However I tend to leave tv to DH and read my book most of the time

Presumptuous? What a strange word to use! But thank you for the laugh.

I'm sorry that I didn't like and wouldn't watch any of the top 10 BBC programmes, it's obviously upset you!

We do watch ITV at times. We're about to watch the 1% Club now. We've also been known to view Channel 4 and Channel 5 before now!

And yes, we do pay for streaming services, outrageous of us I know!

We also pay the BBC licence fee as well.

I find it quite presumptuous that, just because you posted that the BBC had the highest live viewing figures for 16 years some posters think you, or anyone who might have enjoyed one or two of those programmes, watch nothing else on any other channel!

Streaming services you mean those you have to pay for Louella?

Well, Gavin and Stacey isn't entirely set in England with English actors! 😁

It was filmed in Wales
