I binge watched Day of the Jackal on Prime. I enjoyed it but thought it was rather far fetched.

Lathyrus3 The classical music programme was on BB2 last night but you will be able to find it on I - Player. It's a mixed bag - I'm not an opera fan and there are some arias but even I liked Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma. I hope that you enjoy it.

Just watched Clash of the Titans on Netflix , mostly good British actors. Birdsong tonight Eddy Redmayne

Well, 🤔 it’s all subjective isn’t it? Out of all the programmes you list I only have watched the first two😄
High viewing figures or no I tend to stick to Netflix or Amazon Prime or Sky.

Just re quoted myself cos as others agree, tv watching really is subjective as to what we all like.
Netflix is really my go to where I always find either a film or a series.A poster somewhere on this thread seemed to think it was ‘all American’ which isn’t true at all.Lots of British tv series and films are on there as well as US and European.

Lathyrus3 Tue 31-Dec-24 11:44:28

Actually I don’t like any kind of competition. Sports, Reality stuff whatever.

I think I’ve got competition phobia!

Lathyrus3 Tue 31-Dec-24 11:41:32

Yes, I have tried. It’s an unfortunate quirk in my nature that I agonise over contestants that get it wrong or embarrassingly can’t answer. I really suffer for them😬 I have to keep saying to myself ‘They choose to be there”. And then there’s the countdown clock ticking away, I just find quiz/game shows so incredibly stressful.

It’s not that I’m objecting to them per se. I would just have liked a little variety over Christmas.

🙂

People who like game shows and soaps. There doesn’t seem to be much else ☹️

Well, apparently the lowest common denominator watch Gavin and Stacey.

They might also watch Only Connect, Mastermind and University Challenge and know the answers so in which category do they fit? confused

That’s what I mean. Mostly game shows and soaps. I don’t line either. So there’s nothing much for me.

Have you watched those 3 quizzes- ever? They are not game shows. In my opinion, needless to say humble, Victoria C M is the best quiz person on TV. My DH and I always watch the Monday quizzes and are astounded by the the immense knowledge, combined with the occasional lack of knowledge.

Lathyrus3 Tue 31-Dec-24 11:33:48

I think I’d enjoy that. Which Channel?

Though I can see it might not make Prime viewing on Christmas Day😬

At the moment I seem to be occupied by judging a paper plane fly off from a kit a friend received as a present. We’re on Round 3.

(He’s 78 🙄)

Rather late in responding but there have been many good things on the Beeb over the past week. At the moment i am listening/watching "60 Classical Years" broadcast last night. Brilliant performances and I'm only 48 minutes in. So far Lang Lang aged 21 playing Tchaikovsky 1, a young Nigel Kennedy - 4 Seasons etc etc.

Mt61 Tue 31-Dec-24 09:36:43

Got rid of our license- TBF I wouldn’t have watched any of those shows.
I prefer docs

HowVeryDareYou2 Tue 31-Dec-24 09:36:14

Mojack26 I agree. I don't like any if those programmes either. Lots of people have cancelled their tv licence.

Mojack26 Tue 31-Dec-24 09:26:23

Totally disagree. It was awful in my opinion. Viewing is very subjective. Loathe Gavin and Stacey, Wallace and Gromit and Dr Who! Never watch The King's Speech... To me it was grim!

My favourite channels are BBC, ITV and Ch4. Currently I’m paying for Ad free on both but I’ll get rid of it on one of the channels soon. I’ve not found a great deal to watch on Prime, Netflix, Now etc. Too much USA stuff and2nd rate films. I only keep Prime as it’s handy for postage and fast delivery.

Anyway well done BBC. I’m very happy to continue to pay my TV licence and I’m looking forward to new drama in 2025.

What type of programmes do you enjoy? We’ve recently found a lot to watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

My daughter watches Prime and Netflix and recommends programmes she thinks I will like. What I can’t be bothered with is scrolling through screen after screen of stuff that doesn’t interest me.
Plenty of films to watch on iPlayer, ITVX, and a huge amount of European thrillers etc on Channel 4. Plenty of serials as well. Not keen on most game shows.

Wow, what a can of worms this post opened! I watched Gavin and Stacey and Wallace & Gromit, both of which fulfilled my expectations of excellent viewing!
I mostly watch BBC IPlayer because I don't normally have a routine TV watching time and am now currently watching an episode of Strike a day. Friends have lined me up with series to follow on Netflix too (which my son pays for me to have).

Aveline Mon 30-Dec-24 07:27:53

MrsMatt time you gave it another try. You obviously don't have a clue what's available.

MrsMatt Sun 29-Dec-24 21:53:12

I can't remember the last time I sat and watched TV. It's so boring and predictable now

We watched the King's Speech on Boxing Day.

It was very good, he obviously cares deeply about those who are suffering.

I watched most of those except dr who and the king. Enjoyed most of it.
I’m quite happy with the basic channels.

We did watch Last Christmas last night (Amazon Prime) - schmaltzy but it still made me cry at one point.

I was totally convinced yesterday was Sunday but strangely I'm quite happy that today is also Sunday. I think that might be worrying!

😁
Every day's Manic Monday here!

melp1 Sun 29-Dec-24 19:03:16

Disappointed with both Gavin & Stacey and Outnumbered, but loved Barcelona - The Split, (watched on iplayer ) - would recommend. Will be watching Wallace & Gromit.

It just seems all very competitive these days.
Christmas doesn't seem yo have bought much jollity with it.

I guess I am lucky, I had a great, but exhausting, time with my 4 kids, their partners and all the GC. Lots of jollity in my house but we didn't actually watch much TV.

Maggiemaybe Sun 29-Dec-24 18:37:34

Well done, the BBC, those viewing figures are impressive. They’re obviously doing something right when they’re appealing to so many, despite the massive competition. We’ve seen four of the programmes on the list, and the Beeb still seems to be our go to station. We have Prime (just because of the other benefits) and Netflix (bought for us a gift) but we rarely find anything on either that we want to watch. Whereas I’m already planning to watch the wonderful Mirror and the Light all over again…

Is this a competition of who watched the least???

I don't think so, I think it is about not spending the whole of Christmas watching TV for many of us so not watching all ten programmes doesn't mean there was something wrong with the ones we didn't watch. Well that certainly applies to me, now everyone has gone home I will probably binge on TV while I rest and recover.
