Anyone watch the two episodes? A bit saccharine, and a poor Dickensian family, and Trixie back unexpectedly........Some very improbable moments but I carried on watching!

I watched it last week for the first time in ages but it just made me feel sad and slightly depressed.

There was a girl in our school who had had polio. She looked frail but then we heard she had died. Poor girl.

My MIL had polio. My ex says they used to go to the hospital each day because they would put a list on the gate of those who had died. Thankfully she survived but had a weak leg and it weakened her heart.

I know it’s corny, but I really enjoy this show.

Me too. smile

I remember seeing film of people in iron lungs and thinking how awful it must have been to live like that. Thank goodness for vaccines.

Yes, thank goodness. I know a couple of people who had polio as children, one 80 now, the other in her 70s.
Mary Berry spent months in hospital with polio as a child.

It was always a worry for parents, especially if we went to the swimming pool. I remember at High School being given the vaccine, it was a pink liquid on a spoon.

I think that is why we never went to the swimming pool and I never learned to swim. My mam was a nurse and I can still remember the polio jabs. The needle was massive! I hated it but I can see now why my mam insisted on it. Thank you mam.
