New mini series of The Split is on iPlayer now.
Love Steven Mangan

I agree it was a load of rubbish. What a waste of such good acting skills.
I've watched and loved The Split right through from the first series. This two-parter was engaging and silly in equal measure. However, I'm hoping that its going to lead to another London based series which follows the intriguing love affair of Hannah and Archie, the tedium of Nathan's new life and what will happen to Rose and her bizarre relationship with the priest. I never did 'get' Nina.
Toby Stephens was the one feasible character in this daft Barcelona farce, playing his part as befits his thespian roots and being far more interesting than Stephen Mangan's Nathan and/or the Christie character. I like Nicola Walker but would say that she needs to rehearse a new set of facial expressions, get a face pack and recruit a new wardrobe finder.
Watched last night. Really enjoyed it. Have to say who on earth was in charge of choosing her clothes? Dreadful!
I have to agree that she looks better in real life.. but she looked so frumpy in this series that we'll have to disagree about their suitability on screen

Well I enjoyed it !
Escapist gosh it might have been, but Nicola Walker was superb as usual and as for Toby Stephens- the looks of his mother and voice of his father- brought back many happy memories. But when you look at his wife in real life the idea that he would be attracted to Nicola Walker is a bit far fetched..
Oh Pascal30 - it’s called acting
Yes!
Here is Nicola in real life
And her husband

I found Nicola’s constant gurning a bit OTT.

He is the son of Maggie Smith and Robert Stephens .
I think you can really see the resemblance here
If you have seen The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie the voice will be familiar too.
I didn't realise that either. I can see the similar red hair colouring. (He looked a bit like James Hewitt to me! 😆)
We kept remarking on how much he looked like his mother.
Still prefer Stephen Mangan!

I like him better there - apart from the ear ring!
I wasn't keen on it, far too twee compared to the other series.

I actually zoned out during the beach wedding and turned off . It was too far fetched , too nicey nicey and to silly . Beautiful people in beautiful places living beautiful life's. Boring for me
I also enjoyed it very much. Saw the two parts together on I player and it was a very relaxing way to spend a couple of hours.
RosiesMaw I am with you on this, it was an escapist interlude, one which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Tosh not gosh!

Agree escaped it just added to the general melée of going nowhere at all.
The beach wedding irritated the life out of me. Wealthy people playing at being hippies. And Gael’s parents sat either end of the wedding breakfast table. Really?
When Gael said “we will do it our way” I assumed they’d defer the date and head of to a registry office. TV drama (especially rom+com) doesn’t half stretch credulity at times.
A liaison between Nina (Annabel Scholey) and a female employee at the finca feels chucked in just to give her character something to do. 😂 😂
That bit was totally unnecessary!
Review in The Telegraph:
“The show ended in 2022 but writer Abi Morgan has gone down the EastEnders-in-Spain route by packing her characters off to sunnier climes for a two-part special (concluding tonight). Is it any good? Well, I enjoyed spending time in their company again. Overall, though, it’s a disappointment.
There is a plot: Liv (Elizabeth Roberts), the daughter of Hannah and Nathan (Walker and Stephen Mangan) is getting married to her Spanish boyfriend, Gael. His parents are fabulously wealthy, and the wedding is due to take place at their estate in the Spanish countryside, which, of course, does not go without a hitch. The Defoe family are there en masse. Hannah and Nathan are now divorced, but still love each other to varying degrees. He now has a partner, a baby and – oh dear – an earring, but has found that the grass isn’t greener. Hannah has dipped a toe in the internet-dating pool and had a few dates with a chap named Archie, played by Toby Stephens, before running out on him. Archie is a lawyer whose clients include a fabulously wealthy Spanish couple who have invited him to attend their son’s wedding. Can you see where this is going?
Unfortunately, Walker and Stephens have no chemistry, so this isn’t a romance in which we can become invested. Some of the script and plotting concerning the in-laws would be rejected by the writers of Death in Paradise. A liaison between Nina (Annabel Scholey) and a female employee at the finca feels chucked in just to give her character something to do. The director keeps resorting to slow-motion camera work, filming the cast walking through sun-dappled vineyards, in an attempt to evoke fuzzy feelings among viewers.
Walker and Mangan are still great at understated comedy (“Our contribution to this wedding will cover, at best, the patatas bravas,” says Nathan) and at digging out emotional truths. When Hannah admits to worries about dating again at her age, it will chime with many people. And the good news is that, by the end, Nathan has ditched the earring.”
