Anyone keen or just watched the first episode tonight?

I really fancy this:

“ Pick of the week

It’s extremely rare, but has happened; babies have been swapped at birth in busy hospitals, although procedures introduced in the 1980s make such an event theoretically impossible in today’s NHS. That small detail aside, Grace Ofori-Attah (a former NHS doctor, who also wrote ITV’s Malpractice) has adapted JP Delaney’s 2020 psychological thriller on the subject into a gripping four-part series. James Norton and Niamh Algar are Pete and Maddie, who find out that their toddler Theo was swapped at birth with another boy, David. With David’s parents Miles and Lucy (James McArdle and Jessica Brown Findlay) they face a dilemma: do the couples – who have very different parenting styles – keep the sons they have raised, or reclaim their biological child? At first the adults are indeed “playing nice” as they try to navigate a way out of this nightmare, but a goodies versus baddies vibe soon emerges – and by the end of tomorrow’s second episode, we see that all is not as it appears with any of them.”

We binge watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it 😊

Great acting, partly hokum but enjoyable nonetheless. Every time Mike came on screen it felt like panto season - hissing at the baddie!

Memorable put down line from him to Pete “Stop trying to act like the alpha here. It’s embarrassing.” Ouch.

Miles, not Mike. Duh!

Ridiculous scene tonight near the end - Miles pinning Maddie against the wall and threatening her in a dark corridor - if anyone had walked in and seen them, he'd have been finished!

MissAdventure Sun 12-Jan-25 22:58:53

It has me totally hooked, though.
I've been waiting all week for tonight's episode.

Ridiculous scene tonight near the end - Miles pinning Maddie against the wall and threatening her in a dark corridor - if anyone had walked in and seen them, he'd have been finished!

I felt she should have brought her leg up and kneed him in the groin.

Then flounced off.

Yes the plot had the odd flaw but - I enjoyed it. Best thing on tv since the Christmas Day Wallace and Gromitt

No spoilers before tonight please 😂
We're recording it and will watch straight after, with no distracting adverts.

I haven't watched it all yet and though people think it may be unlikely believe me courts, particularly family courts and Cafcass believe lies when convincing, controlling characters like this are involved. By the time investigations take place the damage is already done to the children.

Certainly far fetched as the plot was I found it a difficult watch due to my experiences of the family court system and particularly Cafcass. This portrayal of how the FCS can destroy families I felt was so near my own experience I found it all too real.

The idea of one parent good, other parent bad is still the basis of much that is wrong with the system.

I've watched the first episode and enjoyed it. OH has decided not to watch it having read the reviews which is fine by me as I often have to say " it's a story, not real life" when he starts picking holes in the plot.

Watched the final episode last night.

I read the book fairly recently, so knew the outcome.

They seemed to have changed quite a bit of the story.

Can’t recall Miles’ mother being in it at all, but perhaps I’ve forgotten.

Honestly wondered why Lucy stayed with him if he was so awful.

I enjoyed it (I enjoy anything which James Norton is in) even though the ending was predictable and slightly weird, imho.

MissAdventure Tue 14-Jan-25 09:50:14

I found it very atmospheric, loved the scenery, the music, and the suspense.

I had expected a surprise twist her or there, but there wasn't one.

I still enjoyed it, though.

I have seen a trailer for what I presume is a similar type mini series with Martin Clunes in it, looking dark and brooding.

I would think that will be well worth a watch.

I have finished watching this and found it totally gripping!

I was trying to work out why the character of Myles is that way - does he have some kind of personality disorder?

What made you think that the bullying controlling narcissistic husband might have some kind of personality disorder?

Of course something is massively wrong - was wondering how that kind of person would be labelled by a psychologist.

Would likely be diagnosed with psychopathy, maybe alongside narcissistic personality disorder.

I loved it, and did binge watch as I so wanted to see how it ended!

Dottydots Tue 14-Jan-25 13:52:51

Couldn't understand why mother of Miles turned up out of the blue. She didn't contribute anything.

MissAdventure Tue 14-Jan-25 13:55:07

Shamefully, I found him both repugnant and attractive blush

Iam64 Tue 14-Jan-25 13:55:17

She put responsibility on him for his brothers death

Poppyred Tue 14-Jan-25 15:31:12

Far fetched but a very satisfying ending! Over the edge you go mate……🤣

Primrose53 Tue 14-Jan-25 16:06:05

I watched the final part. Enjoyed it!

Eloethan Tue 21-Jan-25 20:38:16

There were reviews which suggested the plot was totally unrealistic. It did seem rather extreme that the "poor" couple could have the child they had cared for since birth taken away and I did wonder whether that would actually be possible.

Having said that, I found the whole series really gripping and all the actors so convincing.

foxie48 Wed 22-Jan-25 08:34:09

I was really engaged with the storyline and I do like a happy ending ( for some!)

MissAdventure Wed 22-Jan-25 09:12:35

I had wondered if there was going to be some twist in the storyline.
Perhaps the "goodies" ending up as "baddies", but no, it followed on exactly as expected, but it really was so watchable.

I loved the scenery, too.
