I really fancy this. Anyone else?

“ With farmers’ woes so much in the headlines, there couldn’t be a timelier moment for this intense rural thriller starring Martin Clunes (who in real life owns a 130-acre farm in Dorset) as Nathan Williams, a farmer in the Welsh Marches whose peaceful, predictable, hardworking lifestyle is shattered by the blight of county lines drug dealing. Writer Marc Evans takes time to carefully sketch out Williams’s character (a widower with a live-in teenage son, a daughter in France and an estranged brother) and the daily rhythms and idiosyncrasies of a rural location on the fringes of a small town suffering the all too familiar ills of unemployment, antisocial behaviour and drug abuse. There are other threats to farming life, too, in the form of deepening economic pressures – but it’s the more immediate problem of Nathan’s son Johnny’s (Louis Ashbourne Serkis) struggle to escape the influence of a local drug dealer that prompts most of the drama in tonight and tomorrow’s opening episodes, of six.”

That rather sexy Welsh actor Mark Lewis Jones is in it as well.

I liked Martin Clunes in Doc Martin and Goodbye Mr Chips, but his accent seemed to be all over the place in this new drama.

Actually I get the appeal of Mark Lewis Jones.Maybe not so much now but certainly in Keeping Faith a few years ago there was a certain ruggedness and that lovely Welsh accent to enjoy.

Calendargirl Mon 20-Jan-25 21:50:05

Oh Johnny, please don’t get mixed up with Sadie, the whole family is trouble!

Surely you aren’t allowed to shoot drones down with your shotgun?

Does Nathan do any actual work, or just ride round in his Land Rover?

rafichagran Mon 20-Jan-25 21:50:54

I watched the 1st episode earlier today, now watching the 2nd. I am really enjoying it.
I is showing very well how kids are being sucked in a tricked into being runners.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 20-Jan-25 21:55:12

I’ve just binge watched 2 episodes today. It’s really tense …
3 more to go.
Gripping stuff.

BlueBelle Mon 20-Jan-25 22:11:26

Well, we're all over the place, they don't half get around.

I've watched all 6 episodes. Very far fetched and left open for another series.....

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 21-Jan-25 21:52:21

I’m watching the last episode. To be honest it got too far fetched for my liking. Big crime now - involving half a dozen upstanding members of the community.

In real life, I couldn’t stand the stress - I’d have my head in my hands and ‘fess up to the Police. Mind you that said didn’t the drug baron tell Nathan ‘your son wouldn’t be safe in a remand centre so don’t even think about involving the Police’.

Poor Nathan stitched up good and proper on all sides it seems.

Please remember some of us watch these programmes as they air, week by week.

Not all of us binge watch, and don’t want the ending revealed before the series, far fetched or otherwise, is even half way through.

Doodledog Wed 22-Jan-25 07:22:25

Agreed, Calendargirl. I am a confirmed binge watcher, but that sometimes means waiting till the end before watching.

Spoilers are the bane of my life on TV threads, as even when thread titles expressly ask for no spoilers people can’t seem to resist adding them. I often go elsewhere for TV chat these days - particularly when it comes to Corrie.

MN often has both a ‘real time’ or ‘TV pace’ thread as well as a ‘spoiler’ one, and they are very good at telling off those who ruin the pleasure of other viewers by leaking information before it’s been aired.

rafichagran Wed 22-Jan-25 21:02:20

Please, no hints or spoilers, I don't binge watch either.

Patsy70 Sun 26-Jan-25 14:14:29

I’ve watched all 6 episodes, and as with so many series recently, was very disappointed.

BlueBelle Sun 26-Jan-25 14:21:22

I gave up on it

Calendargirl Mon 27-Jan-25 07:08:46

Watched episode 3 last night.

So far fetched.

Surely Nathan and Caleb would have ended up with blood over their clothes, after manhandling the body?

But no, just seemed to return home, telling Johnny to ‘fasten his coat up’ before the cleaner saw his own blood stained clothing.

The ‘suite’ looked like an abattoir, can’t imagine Johnny half heartedly washing the bath down with the shower hose would eliminate all the evidence.

Luckygirl3 Mon 27-Jan-25 08:33:02

It was disappointing as so divorced from reality. Following the main incident (avoiding spoilers) any normal person would simply have rung the police.
Also the ending was crazy in that it was not an ending at all!
Clunes' accent was very vague!!!

😁

Where do I begin?

Blood being swilled everywhere, DNA evidence from Johnny all over the place, I think I may have nodded off at that point.

Oreo Mon 27-Jan-25 12:27:40

I liked it😁
Waiting for the next series now.

Poppyred Mon 27-Jan-25 13:12:57

County lines goes on everywhere, just that us normal law abiding people don’t see it. So not that far fetched……
