We’ll be watching later

Having got used to watching John Nettles in Midsomer Murders it's lovely to see him so young and handsome in old episodes of Bergerac. I've not aged at all in the interim of course.

I thought the new version was very dull and downbeat.
John Nettles is a very difficult act to follow, witness Neil Dudgeon as Barnaby.

I stayed awake for it and ok so far I think but he does need to speak up.

Have watched the first one, will reserve judgement until I have seen a few more episodes.

Neil Dudgeon was so good in the Mrs Bradley Mysteries but never quite matched up to John Nettles in Midsomer.

Just loved John Nettles.

We watched the first two episodes last night and really enjoyed it.

I was out last nite so looking forward to binge watching this with a few wines tonite x

Please nobody jump on me! But I looked up the age John Nettles was when he did Bergerac. He was in his 40's. pretty young in my book. I compare him to the 'man' in that shock of an advert about keeping dog food in the fridge. It ends with him sitting on the floor with his dog eating and the man cross legged eating with chopsticks. There is only one man and it is John Nettles! Clearly my idea of a man is not the modern type.

PS Just to clarify this ad came on after an old episode of Bergerac and hence. I could not help making this comparison!

Sadly, nothing like the original. Very contemporary with modern day issues and characters. They all seem to be whispering. It’s not really engaged me yet but will give it time.
As others say, JohnNettles is a hard act to follow. Same as Midsomer Murders.

I loved the original Bergerac. I too will reserve judgement for now on the remake, having only seen one episode, but didn’t warm to the scruffy new Bergerac (showing my age I guess). I was disappointed to read that most of it was filmed in Devon, relatively little on Jersey.

We loved the original, and visited the Bergerac attraction when we were in Jersey in the 90s. Admired the car, had our photos taken beside a life size cardboard cut out of John Nettles.
However I can't access subtitles on the new version, so that makes it difficult for me....

So did I although DH refused to have his photo taken so it was just John and me 😀

I watched the first episode last night. I never watched the old Bergerac.

Not keen on his drink problem.

And I’ve mentioned before, for some reason, when I watch on ‘U’, now and again the screen goes blank momentarily.

Only on that channel. It’s really annoying, and puts me off watching.

The NEW Bergerac is very good, it’s a different show to the original Bergerac but I think they are both enjoyable to watch.

I have only watched the first episode. I quite enjoyed it, but he was nothing like my memory of Bergerac. I think they would have been better creating a new detective instead, but still in Jersey. My one criticism is that a lot of the scenes were filmed in partial darkness as in so many dramas these days.

Binge watched to escape a dire Saturday night TV. Love Zoë Wanamaker. It was an ok watch. A bit predictable. Jersey scenery is stunning.

Tom Barnaby was such a knowall. He referred to all the great and good by their Christian names as if they were all personal friends and his wife belonged to every group and society in the area.
I did not find either of them likeable.

We like it, seen about 4 episodes now. No idea about the original ones back story, so I had to look it up.

Think they got this one right, we are enjoying it, even the Times gave it 4/5 from them that's good.

In answer to your opening question, probably.

Personally, I envied Joyce Barnaby. She looked to have a very easy life, no job, just drifted in and out of various clubs and societies, art classes, drama and theatre workshops, archaeology digs etc. Often out for meals, never seemed to do much housework but had a nice home. Not much of a cook though.

As for Neil Dudgeon, not keen. Looked too old to become a father, not sure why Betty had to be brought in.

The scripts have gone off since he and his wife came in, and the sidekicks aren’t as nice as Ben Jones.

I ended up not watching any of the last series of Midsomer Murders. Tried each one and far too dark for me!

That was in 2014 I think, when Fiona Dolman, the actress playing Mrs Barnaby, found she was pregnant. Betty must be 10 now, perhaps taken herself off to boarding school as no-one ever took much notice of her.
Neil Dudgeon must have been about 50 when Betty arrived; is that too old? We have older Dads in our family too!
