I thought it was unremittingly awful, and one episode was more than enough.
I had read that it was written (books) by someone from Bradford Yorkshire and series for tv based on books are usually good. Not this one.
Where do I start? Obvs Bradford is well known to have a very large Indian/ Pakistani heritage community but this looked more like it was set in Mumbai as I didn’t see white Yorkshire people in it at all. There were a few criminal Eastern Europeans either as rival gang members or lackeys of criminal Asian gangs.
One Eastern European gang member, being tortured in the presence of Virdee protests they can’t do this as it’s England, so Virdee says no, this is Bradford! Virdee has a criminal brother in law which he seems comfortable with.
There is no showcasing of a Yorkshire city, it all looks dark, dingy and unappealing (maybe it really is).
There is far too much family stuff, most of it centred around his own horrible Sikh father.
The murder of a young woman is horrific in what was done to her.
I bet the Bradford tourist industry, if there is one, is up in arms about this series, in that you’d run a mile if anyone suggested a trip there now.
