I'll go first šŸ˜€

I've watched Episode 1 of the Duchess of Sussex's lifestyle show on Netflix (a relaxed half hour over an early lunch) I enjoyed it! It's very beautiful in Montecito where they live, the camera loves her, she's a working wife and mother ... what's not to like?

I'll run for cover now... 😁

It’s ridiculously false. Filmed in a house that’s not hers, ditto the garden etc., and constant references to her children we never see - especially the daft set up outside for a magical experience for children with no children! It was embarrassing.

I can understand them not wanting their children filmed so leave it at that and stop the teasing little references to them. There’s no charm in that.

The scene with Guy the beagle was touching because we all know the dog died shortly after the series was made. It was the only genuine bit.

Her ā€˜friends’ don’t look at all relaxed in her presence. Imagine being ticked off in front of millions for calling her Markle and not Sussex and I thought the reference to MSG and racism by her guest chef unnecessary.

I’m not surprised it’s been panned by the critics.

Very rich people's lifestyles are morally unjustifiable. Beautiful scenery does not justify rich-lifestyle-pornography.

I think Meghan is right for it not to be filmed in her own house. That would be completely contrary to her desire for "privacy". šŸ˜†
However, I'm having trouble deciding whether it's the food she wants viewers to voraciously consume, or Meghan herself?
Yes, the scenery is beautiful.

Now, I am not a fan, but can you show me where she or Harry asked for ā€˜privacy’, because I don’t think they did? As I remember, they wanted to be half and half, royal and American celebrities, but Queen said no, you’re either in or out! I believe that’s when the bad feeling really started.

Incidentally, I noticed that the programme had 5 executive producers!

P T Barnum said ā€œ No such thing as bad publicity ā€œ

She’s certainly got a lot of that!

Wow! "A perfectly- honed Bullshit detector" Petra!
That sounds like a marvelous piece of equipment to own!!!!
Where could I possible buy one?
Maybe I could find one in the very narrow-minded section of my local supermarket?? šŸ¤”

You can’t buy one.
You’re either born with a perfectly working one or, like yourself, a defective one.

This made me chuckle! šŸ˜‚

William and Catherine’s children are referred to as the Wales,
Edward and Sophie The Edinburgh’s, and the York’s , surely not the reason why Meg has decided Susses ?

The Daily Telegraph aren’t too enamoured of the programme.
I can’t comment as I haven’t seen it and won’t be.

Indeed UTBB. This, from an article there this morning:

ā€œIt is all about ā€œthe joy of hostessingā€ because Meghan is very welcoming to everyone, which you will know unless you are her father, her siblings, her father-in-law, her stepmother-in-law, her brother-in-law, her sister-in-law, 99 per cent of her husband’s old friends or Piers Morgan.ā€

I subscribe to Netflix but shan’t be watching. Nothing to do with Meghan (I quite like her but she’s played her hand of cards all wrong in my opinion) just that cookery/lifestyle shows hold no interest at all for me. After all, I am

Sussex isn’t her name unless she’s legally changed it. It isn’t Harry’s name either.

It’s a title.

There's something absolutely excruciating about this woman. Everything appears false, and everything sounds false. She might as well just say "give me the money".

There's someone else in America who pushes people aside in front of the cameras, and he's far more dangerous!

You cannot trust a camera lover

She will give anything a go for the cameras, cameras and a
microphone ? The excitement is so great she pushes people aside to take centre stage

escaped Wed 05-Mar-25 07:09:04

Putting the interviews aside, I've said before that I quite like Meghan. She has a sense of humour, and is often tongue in cheek. She'll give anything a go.
I didn't like her attitude to the royal family though.

Calendargirl Wed 05-Mar-25 06:52:13

I only saw a trailer on the BBC News, but she was talking about her name being ā€˜Sussex’, not ā€˜Markle’.

I think she will always be ā€˜Markle’.

I know the other royals are referred to as Wales, Edinburghs, Yorks and so on, but don’t think we shall ever think of Harry and her in that way.

*Opinions formed, not by trashy press, but by Meghan's very own words and actions*.
Amazing that so many people have first hand acquaintance with someone in the public eye that they witness personally Meghans own words and actions and have not read about them in the press or watched carefully curated clips etc

Did you not watch the Oprah interview? Did you not hear about the book Spare? The book that Harry himself narrated?

This was all.witnessed by 'our own eyes' and ears!

I'm not sure you've heard about all that they've said, but I can assure you these are not carefully curated clips!

Netflix paid them a small fortune to spill the beans and they did.

Was Oprah interview , were Speeches at Invictus Games ,were her Netflix programmes carefully curated?

The Guardian review tore the show to shreds - it got one star and I think that was out of pure pity.

I haven't had the chance yet but will definitely give it a go when I can.

merlotgran Tue 04-Mar-25 22:20:22

There’s an awful lot of jam but I wouldn’t mind popping round for chicken wing or two as she seems to be quite generous with the šŸ¾šŸ˜‚

Rula Tue 04-Mar-25 22:16:01

I'm not a Meghan hater. Why is this 'hater' even a thing? It's a tad immature.

I tried the programme. I'm not interested in influencer stuff at all but I thought I'd watch to see. As I said earlier it's very pretty but I found it extremely boring. It did have comedic value, albeit unintentionally. I also said I hoped critics might go easy but it's being shredded on both sides of the Atlantic.

Not by haters but by people who have an opinion which they're allowed to have. Opinions formed, not by trashy press, but by Meghan's very own words and actions.

kircubbin2000 Tue 04-Mar-25 22:06:05

It's nothing to do with being a Megan hater. It's just so boring and sickly. If any other person had presented this to Netflix they would have been laughed out of the building.

vegansrock Tue 04-Mar-25 21:27:33

If you’re a Meghan hater then you’ll hate it anyway. I’m not a hater but am not interested in lifestyle programmes so won’t watch it. I guess I’m not the target audience. The clips I’ve seen are ultra sugary.

blue25 Tue 04-Mar-25 20:24:08

It’s awful & made me cringe. She has so little self-awareness. The reviews are brutal, even from The Guardian!
