Have people lost interest in soaps?

There are a fair few of us on here that still love Eastenders.

I've never watched them and in all honestly, I didn't know Emmerdale was still going. I don't think I know anyone who does watch any, either.

We used to watch most of them at one time but never watch any now, they just seemed to get sillier and repetitive.
I don't think I know anyone who watches them either.

I've never been a fan of Soaps and didn't watch any of them.

I used to watch Corrie, Eastenders, and Neighbours. As you say when I went to work we would talk about the soap we had watched the night before. But I don’t watch any of them now. With my small circle of now retired friends we discuss what is on Netflix and follow a serial on there.

I watched them years ago but when my real life became a soap I realised I no longer needed them, as the escapism they provided had become my reality.

Maybe it's the same for others?

I don't think people watch TV in the way they used to. 3 million simultaneous viewers might happen for a big sporting event or even the final of something like Strictly, but otherwise people fit programmes around their lives, rather than the other way round.

I watch Corrie and sometimes Eastenders, but rarely as they are broadcast. I have never discussed them at work, or with other friends, but I do enjoy chatting about them online, so long as people can resist spoiling them by revealing what is going to happen before it goes out (which includes who is leaving or coming back).

I used to watch Corrie, as did my mother, but stopped a few years back as the storylines became far fetched. I used to love the humour of it with the older characters like Albert Tatlock.

No me neither, I don’t have the time!

We tend to only put the TV on around 8pm in winter and later in summer, we tend to watch films, dramas and documentaries.

I used to watch Coronation Street, from the very first episode. I stopped watching it at least 20 years ago, when the plots became more and more implausible. From what I gather, things have gone from bad to worse. In the days when I left work early enough I also watched Crossroads and Emmerdale Farm (as it was then) when I popped in to see Mum on my way home. Eastenders has never appealed to me, never watched it.

I did used to watch Emmerdale, Coronation street religiously, but I think around covid time I got fed up waiting for the next episode (I must have been short of something to do).

So no not watched either for last 2/3 yrs. No interest in the anymore.

I watched Neighbours when I was a new mum, Australian tv sparked my interest once I'd been to Australia, that series coincided with a middle of the day feed. Although, easy viewing, it was rubbish of course. I dipped in and out of Corrie over the years I watched it last when Blanche, Deidre's mother was in it what a brilliant character, all the best lines ! Haven't watched it for years same with S'tenders which I always thought was veering on the side of atrocious, insomuch as everyone was shouting all the time. I recall dumping soaps gave a sense of freedom, no more at their beck and call

I watch Corrie & EastEnders. I record them and watch at a time to suit.

It’s a long long time since I’ve watched a soap - stopped enjoying the storylines and some of the characters. I wouldn’t know any of them now. I remember watching the first episode of Corrie, and also watching it in the Far East, dubbed into Chinese, with English subtitles which were very strange!😁

I stopped watching Coronation Street when it occurred to me that someone like Emily Nugent would never go into the Rovers Return! The other soaps pass me by.

I used to enjoy The Archers until the awful lockdown soliloquies which made me switch off, never to switch on again.

Only ever watched Coronation Street and still love it. I hope it keeps going as it’s part of my life

TBH I’ve never really watched any of them since dds were at home and addicted to Neighbours/EastEnders. Which is a very long time ago now.

When I’m knitting in the afternoon I will admit to a mild addiction to Police Interceptors though! Needs no concentration to follow it, so no going wrong, followed by very colourful cursing. Downside is all the funeral plan ad breaks, though, not to mention CareCo fireside chairs etc., to rub in that they know I’m an an Old Person with nothing better to do than watch the telly in the afternoon.

I used to watch them, but they have changed too much. I think the writers simply run out of ideas. Coronation Street used to have a greater mix of ages and families. The variety has gone now.
It's the same with Doctor Who. I stopped watching when it become too technical.

People just don’t watch telly in the same way. We used to watch it a lot but don’t anymore. I often go on my laptop in the evening and play online scrabble and do online jigsaws.

I used to watch Emmerdale Farm when I was feeding my firstborn and I remember when Eastenders began I barred my children from watching it because of the way some of the characters treated each other. I don’t watch any of the soaps now because of their far -fetched( in my view) storylines. I much prefer a good drama or documentaries.None of my adult children have ever watched any of the major soaps though some of them watch programmes like Waterloo Road. Is that a soap?

Watched two main ones Carrie and emmerdale for years but haven’t watched any for the last 18 years. I remember a sad storyline thinking no this is it and haven’t watched since.

no I don't watch any soaps either.. I much prefer watching series on Walter Presents..
