They were all awful, weren't they?

Selfish Emma
Adulterous John and Thingy
Nosy and murderous Nick
Violent and criminal builder
Wife beater Derek
Neurotic Barbara
Duplicitous Adam
Insane policewoman
Stroppy daughter
Swindling dad

What is Marcus thinking, moving in with that lot (but I suppose half of them are dead)?

😂😂😂

Loving this thread!

Where has Marcus been all this time? Timbuktu?

Stroppy daughter oh, I think that's probably the most normal bit!

Emma was a bit slow on the uptake for a barrister. I was yelling, ‘She didn’t say it was her daughter’ at the nasty policewoman but then I probably watch too many crime dramas.

This one put Midsomer Murders to shame! 😂

Wasn't she slow!!
I was shouting at her then, not very sharp for a barrister, was she.

Such rubbish.
There is more than enough drama in a kitchen extension without any need for dead magpies, or dead bodies.

😂😂😂
Or even just a new kitchen! 😂

Found the last episode so confusing. Time wise, I could not fathom out how long daughter was chained up. They managed to get three houses on the market and husband arrested and prison visits all whilst she is on the floor attached to the cooker. Just did not make sense.

Just watched it as I was out last night.

Yes, all rather muddled. The police and forensic team had been in and the house was fairly well cleaned up so that would take time. All that time the daughter was handcuffed to the oven door. My oven door lifts off for cleaning but perhaps a teenager might not know that. Good point about the issues with toileting, Calendargirl!
Only one house was on the market, I thought, which was Alan and Sonia's but perhaps I stopped concentrating by then so could be wrong.

I just wondering how they filmed it. Did they ask householders if they could film there, anyone wanting an extension built for free with neighbours who were happy to move out for a while? Or were all the interiors filmed in a studio?

I noticed in the first shots of the street in episode 1 that a lot of the houses had curtains tightly drawn and wondered if the residents didn’t want their privacy invaded, but closed curtains went on to become a theme in the story.

All acting their little socks off - what a waste of talent.

Got the name wrong, not Derek doing the stabbing, it was the security guy, I think his name was Nick.

Doodledog Thu 24-Apr-25 09:50:06

With just a smidgen more hamming it up they could have billed it as a comedy.

Jaxjacky Thu 24-Apr-25 09:46:58

We’ve only just watched episode 1, so I'm trying to avoid spoilers, but it is appallingly bad and yet watchable!

ferry23 Thu 24-Apr-25 09:41:38

I enjoyed it in a bizarre sort of way but I'm left confused.

So she coincidentally chose a builder to quote for the extension who knew Adam beforehand and had hatched the sabotage plan? There was no mention of Adam recommending him.

Yes, agree merlotgran - that was so obvious when the police officer referred to "her" and "she".

I'm doubtful that a solicitor would set out to deliberately lie to, and deceive, the bench.

Both parents seemed less concerned than normal about their missing teenager who was chained to an oven for 3 hours - 3 days? Who knows. With no food or toilet facilities.

Presumably Marcus left because of the Father but made no attempt to let the Mother know he was ok, let alone alive?

And Derek stabbed Adam because he killed some magpies? Is that right?

^Why does Jill Halfpenny end up in these ridiculous dramas?^

£££££££££

Well yes, I can she why she accepts the roles, but why is it always JH or SL who is offered them? Oh, and Sheridan Smith gets her share, too. They must be able to command decent money, and it would be better spent on good scripts. This one had such a good cast - they must have been expensive, and though the location would have been cheap a six part series will have cost a lot. Whoever does the commissioning for C5 drama does seem to like a ludicrous end to an initially promising story. ITV's not much better, to be fair.

This is a great thread- maybe I should watch it!

As my grandsons say- sometimes it's so bad it's good!

merlotgran Thu 24-Apr-25 08:41:31

A fit young teenager wouldn’t have remained handcuffed to an oven door for long.

Any self respecting Bake Off contestant would have yanked it open in a jiffy and been on their feet searching through the nearest drawer because every kitchen has a substitute screwdriver within easy grasp. 😂

Doodledog Thu 24-Apr-25 08:04:27

It ended up the usual Channel 5/ Jill Halfpenny overwrought, far fetched four nights of daftness, but strangely compulsive viewing.
Exactly this. Why do all C5 dramas do that? They start with a promising premise then literally lose the plot. If it’s not Jill Halfpenny it’s Sally Lindsey, and they do get good casts together, but no amount of good acting can save such dreadful plots.

Ziggy62 Thu 24-Apr-25 07:46:43

Didn't understand why the murderer did it

Calendargirl Thu 24-Apr-25 06:48:02

Was handcuffed daughter ever given any food or drink, or allowed to go to the toilet if she was there for days?

I kept expecting to see her sitting in a pool of wee.

Would anyone be keen to buy a house with bloodstains all over the floor and walls?

Why was Emma’s father such a baddy? He didn’t seem too bad to me.

As for the crazy policewoman….

Well you’re a bit late to the game Nastasiia it’s over

NastasiiaCoval Wed 23-Apr-25 22:18:45

Oh I love Jill Halfpenny, she always brings so much heart to her roles. And Chris Gascoyne is Corrie royalty — really curious to see him in something different! Neighbour drama is always juicy. Definitely tuning in for those 4 nights 💙

BlueBelle Wed 23-Apr-25 22:04:33

Well I was enjoying but it really started going down hill and became very unrealistic and silly so now I m saying it’s pretty rubbish Half the street dead or in prison or hospital or tied up in handcuffs on a kitchen floor
About as realistic and likely as a heatwave in a British winter
