Jill Halfpenny is such a good actress. I will try and catch up with it when I can.

merlotgran Mon 14-Apr-25 21:16:46

I’m watching it.

merlotgran Mon 14-Apr-25 21:44:16

Where are Kirstie and Phil when you need them?

😁

Well, it's making me feel really uncomfortable.

Is anyone else having problems with Ch 5 transmission? The picture keeps breaking up, pausing with no sound and we missed the end altogether.

Other channels seem fine.

Smileless2012 Mon 14-Apr-25 22:27:31

It's certainly got us gripped so we're looking forward to tomorrow's episode.

No issues here Allira but I do find streaming 5 can be a real pain.

HeavenLeigh Mon 14-Apr-25 22:27:36

Loving it so far

Primrose53 Mon 14-Apr-25 22:42:06

It’s 6 episodes. Liking it so far.

Calendargirl Tue 15-Apr-25 06:53:39

Think it’s 3 episodes this week, then I assume 3 next week.

It looks promising so far, but we’ve been here before, Channel 5 dramas and Jill Halfpenny.

She will suddenly turn into a knife wielding, homicidal maniac, breaking up marriages and happy homes.

Did the neighbour next door, married to the housemaid from Downton, used to be in Corrie? A builder or similar?

Calendargirl Tue 15-Apr-25 06:55:25

Allira

Touch wood, channel 5 ok with us, but I find U can be a problem sometimes, the screen goes blank momentarily every so often. Very irritating.

BlueBelle Tue 15-Apr-25 07:00:44

Just found it, it looks promising I must have missed it on live tv so watching on iPad finished number 1 good so far

J52 Tue 15-Apr-25 07:25:23

I find it difficult to watch programmes where the continuity is sloppy. The opening scenes were 1 month earlier, yet they’d got a builder to start immediately ( like hen’s teeth here), applied for planning and almost finished the build! Apart from that the unfinished kitchen has a huge island, leaving no room either side for units!
I’ll suspend reality and continue to watch!

Granmarderby10 Tue 15-Apr-25 07:41:09

These huge “islands” are taking over the kitchen world😏

granfromafar Tue 15-Apr-25 07:41:47

I hope this doesn't turn out to be as bad as a previous Ch 5 series with Jill Halfpenny, The Cuckoo, which was dire. The first episode seemed OK, although I'm sure the neighbours asked them in for drinks in the evening, and suddenly they were having a meal aswell! Will watch next 2 episodes and hope it doesn't get too daft.
A builder who can start work immediately? Should definitely get alarm bells ringing.

merlotgran Tue 15-Apr-25 08:01:21

There didn’t seem to be many people at that street party. What a lot of faff just to sit and moan about your neighbours. No traffic either.

Calendargirl Tue 15-Apr-25 10:03:36

Well, the traffic will have been diverted for the party!

I wondered what it (the party) was in aid of?

When they did the speech, I thought it was going to mention the Royals, as I assumed it had been for a jubilee or something.

But no, just a happy get together, with a surplus of sausage rolls.

There was red, white and blue bunting hanging around so I assumed it was a Coronation or Jubilee party.
Yes, you could apply to have the road closed for such street parties, but it's for a specified period of time and certainly you couldn't leave all the mess there overnight.

Why on earth does Jill want to stay in that neighbourhood where everyone seems to want to be at each others' throats?

Thanks Calendargirl.
It was happening on other channels not long ago and we assumed it was 'atmospherics', then we were going to call someone in to look at it but then it righted itself.
Strange.

Allira Tue 15-Apr-25 10:26:53

I was wondering why the housekeeper from Grantchester was suddenly married to a different man, someone I recognised but couldn't remember where from.
It's lovely James Fleet from Four Weddings and a Funeral (ominous!) and Vicar of Dibley. Not so nice in this one.

Calendargirl Tue 15-Apr-25 12:20:37

Yes, Tessa Peake Jones in a different role to bossy Mrs C from Grantchester.

Weeping in the garden over a tree. What’s all that about?

She’s aged a bit, as have we all.

Allira Tue 15-Apr-25 12:51:26

Well, is there a body under the tree?

It could be a pet hamster, we have a few in our garden.

Clawdy Tue 15-Apr-25 19:50:36

Seems a bit obvious for it to be their missing son, but you never know! Six episodes seems a lot.

How long has he been missing? He can't have been young if it was recently and it seems strange that he would be friends with the teenage girl next door. 🤔

BlueBelle Tue 15-Apr-25 23:02:58

I can’t watch my tv atc5he moment totally pixilated if it doesn’t clear I ll have to get a bloke in ….dah

C5's abysmal track record on drama is my concern too.

I am going to wait until it is available to binge, so I haven't wasted time over several nights watching something that turns out to be a damp squib. When it's all on catch-up I will see what it's like and switch off when it gets tedious. At worst, I will waste a rainy afternoon, and I can knit whilst I watch anyway grin
