Why does Jill Halfpenny end up in these ridiculous dramas? She is too good an actress to waste her talents on melodrama. Last night's episode was silly although i shall watch to see who does what to those still standing, and why.

Half a mile, not half an hour (these days it would take a lot longer to walk half a mile though!).

Doodledog Wed 23-Apr-25 16:30:17

I think the outside shots will have been of a real street, but the (few) inside ones (eg of the half-built extension) will have been sets. They could probably film the outside ones in a day or two.

In my experience when filming is going on the residents are last to be considered. I once had to take a huge detour to work because the route I usually took was closed off for weeks. I had to get off the bus and walk for about half an hour mile to get in, and walk the same distance to a temporary bus stop to get home. I got no compensation, and would be unable to do it now because of my asthma. I think that people living in a couple of houses that were taken over by film crew were compensated (they will have had to move out, so presumably gave permission), but others just had to put up with it.

Allira Wed 23-Apr-25 16:16:06

I just wondering how they filmed it. Did they ask householders if they could film there, anyone wanting an extension built for free with neighbours who were happy to move out for a while? Or were all the interiors filmed in a studio?

Doodledog Wed 23-Apr-25 16:12:06

grin.

Yes, never mind the extensions, the property prices will have taken a hit.

Allira Wed 23-Apr-25 16:05:35

I wasn't expecting that either.

Remind me not to move there!

Doodledog Wed 23-Apr-25 15:58:28

I've seen it all so far (one episode to go) and it's been a lot better than many of the C5 dramas, which usually go off the rails after a good start. I was surprised at the final scene of the last one. To avoid spoiling it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, I'll just say I was expecting something to be in there, but not that. It's a very good cast, too.

Enjoying this series..like most of the actors in this...

I fell asleep and missed last 15 mins of Wed night’s episode.

Neighbours were arguing.
One was spying on the others.
A policewoman was spying.

About sums it up I think, Primrose

Did it need to be in six episodes?
They could have condensed it to three or four.
Or two without adverts.

J52 thanks, I will save your post and try that when (if) it happens again.

It's been ok this evening!

I can’t watch my tv atc5he moment totally pixilated if it doesn’t clear I ll have to get a bloke in ….dah
Watching everything on my iPad
Well I m enjoying it

That's the word, pixillating, that's what ours is doing.

When ours does this, I turn it off at the socket, then point the handset at the TV pressing the ‘on’ button for a minute. Then I turn it back on at the socket and turn on as normal with the handset. That seems to clear it.
I can’t remember who told be to do this, but apparently it clears the static that builds up. Worth a try.

Think it’s 3 episodes this week, then I assume 3 next week.

It looks promising so far, but we’ve been here before, Channel 5 dramas and Jill Halfpenny.

She will suddenly turn into a knife wielding, homicidal maniac, breaking up marriages and happy homes.

Did the neighbour next door, married to the housemaid from Downton, used to be in Corrie? A builder or similar?

C5's abysmal track record on drama is my concern too.

I am going to wait until it is available to binge, so I haven't wasted time over several nights watching something that turns out to be a damp squib. When it's all on catch-up I will see what it's like and switch off when it gets tedious. At worst, I will waste a rainy afternoon, and I can knit whilst I watch anyway grin

Clawdy

Seems a bit obvious for it to be their missing son, but you never know! Six episodes seems a lot.

How long has he been missing? He can't have been young if it was recently and it seems strange that he would be friends with the teenage girl next door. 🤔

Well, is there a body under the tree?

It could be a pet hamster, we have a few in our garden.

Calendargirl Tue 15-Apr-25 12:20:37

Yes, Tessa Peake Jones in a different role to bossy Mrs C from Grantchester.

Weeping in the garden over a tree. What’s all that about?

She’s aged a bit, as have we all.

Allira Tue 15-Apr-25 10:26:53

I was wondering why the housekeeper from Grantchester was suddenly married to a different man, someone I recognised but couldn't remember where from.
It's lovely James Fleet from Four Weddings and a Funeral (ominous!) and Vicar of Dibley. Not so nice in this one.

Touch wood, channel 5 ok with us, but I find U can be a problem sometimes, the screen goes blank momentarily every so often. Very irritating.

Thanks Calendargirl.
It was happening on other channels not long ago and we assumed it was 'atmospherics', then we were going to call someone in to look at it but then it righted itself.
Strange.

Well, the traffic will have been diverted for the party!

I wondered what it (the party) was in aid of?

When they did the speech, I thought it was going to mention the Royals, as I assumed it had been for a jubilee or something.

But no, just a happy get together, with a surplus of sausage rolls.

There was red, white and blue bunting hanging around so I assumed it was a Coronation or Jubilee party.
Yes, you could apply to have the road closed for such street parties, but it's for a specified period of time and certainly you couldn't leave all the mess there overnight.

Why on earth does Jill want to stay in that neighbourhood where everyone seems to want to be at each others' throats?

There didn’t seem to be many people at that street party. What a lot of faff just to sit and moan about your neighbours. No traffic either.
