Glutton for punishment, I then watched “The Drowning” on C5 - several of the same cast, and an equally bonkers storyline…..

Yes, Tessa Peake Jones in a different role to bossy Mrs C from Grantchester.

Weeping in the garden over a tree. What’s all that about?

She’s aged a bit, as have we all.

I recognised her as DelBoy’s wife in Only Fools and Horses.

What a load of tommy rot! Great actors but what a load of tripe!!!!

Never mind the policewoman, I wouldn’t have wanted Jill Halfpenny as my solicitor.

She was no better.

Well you might, if you really had committed the crime and she got you off!!

As a victim of crime I wouldn't want to face her in court.
The character was not at all likeable.

I love the word “squib”.

lemsip Sat 26-Apr-25 11:09:08

such a damp squib ending.

Everyone is overthinking this, I feel grin

It was, erm, nonsense (or insert a stronger word if you prefer more direct vocabulary).

The End.

😂😂😂

Yes, LadyGracie - it was like a pantomime!!

LadyGracie Fri 25-Apr-25 19:08:52

We finished watching it last night, I must say the last episode was more of a comedy than a drama.

Ps but why did he kill the magpies and threaten his neighbours with them? Was it because he suspected his wife and John were having an affair?

I think so - although it seems a tad extreme. And he was hurting her as well the husband - she may not have been an easy person but it wasn't her fault they were having an affair.

I still can't work out how she managed to coincidentally pick the builder who was in cahoots with the neighbour - they must have had the sabotage plan before he came to quote because he immediately said he could work it so he started immediately and kept saying he needed cash upfront.

Allira Fri 25-Apr-25 18:31:25

Can't believe the smug little madam got away with it. She should be in prison not the police force.
Just unbelievable.

I’m more confused than ever! In whose house was the daughter chained to the oven?

The young policewoman’s house - she wanted revenge on the girls mother.

granfromafar Fri 25-Apr-25 16:09:03

I'm just catching up on the final 2 episodes as we were out.

As someone said earlier, it's so bad, it's good!

I'm still confused about why he was murdered

I think it was because he killed the magpies - but honestly, I'm not sure!

Yes, when he was confronted about killing the magpies by the Neighbourhood Watchman he said they were "just birds", I think.
That enraged Nick, the Neighbourhood Watchman, who is a keen ornithologist, so he killed him.

I might have that wrong of course.

I did stick with it because I've sprained my ankle and needed to rest it, but it was utter tosh!

Even Larry Lamb seemed as wooden as a flagpole

He did have a rather desperate expression. Maybe he couldn’t believe the script.

😁

Some programmes in Channel 5 have left me wondering how it all works. Do they employ certain writers, producers, actors, presenters for their dramas and docu-series so that they have to produce one thing after another?

Yes, they do Allira
