Just finished The Breakthrough. I found it excellent and very interesting.
Mandelson's Global Consultancy Goes Bust...
April 22nd Limerick (July '21 & July'23 AND....)
We seem to have several threads about various shows watched and sometimes recommended with few comments. I wondered if it would be a good idea to have a general thread we can all post suggestions on. A bit like the Corrie one but wider variation.
For example, I have just binged watched two series on Netflix which I really enjoyed - 'Unseen' and 'Secrets we keep'. Thoroughly enjoyed both. If you are looking for a new series why not give at least one episode a go. So hoping for a second series for 'Secrets we keep'.
Just finished The Breakthrough. I found it excellent and very interesting.
Mamie

Just binge watched 3 episodes of Dept.Q. Completely hooked now. Lafergar, as you say, the hidden person is disturbing, but intriguing at the same time. Speculating already.
The young woman with the red hair is excellent. So eager to find somebody to discuss this with!
I agree that it is excellent television, but am annoyed by the changes to plot and characters from the book, which is much better than the Netflix version.
It is very disconcerting to find that Denmark has become Scotland!
It seems to be a thing these days
Department Q - Denmark became Scotland
Annika - Norway became Scotland
... seems to be a theme .... and spookily Jamie Sives was in both and he was in Shetland and the Shetland islands used to be Norwegian!
Anyone else watching 'The Accident' on Netflix? 1'm finding it quite compulsive viewing. Some subtitles but mainly English dialogue. Along the lines of one tragic incident snowballing into a lot of other issues and problems. Some violence.
I have just found Bookish on Alibi. It's a murder mystery with extra layers. Starts Mark Gatiss as an unconventional book shop owner who helps police solve crimes in 1946 London. I am really enjoying it.

Another Department Q (Netflix) fan!
I can’t get into this series, perhaps I should persevere?
I think it’s a ‘marmite’ series, I absolutely loved it but my DH tried with three episodes and gave up. I tried to rationalise our different responses and concluded that for me the characters were important, if I don’t identify with characters I lose interest, I loved the three main characters especially Akram. My DH focuses more on storyline and action and found it too slow moving so gave up.
I recently watched The Last Anniversary, it is set on a fictional island in Australia and is about the mystery of an abandoned baby years ago. I found it very different and enjoyable, it is on BBC iPlayer.
I am not sure if they are all still available but I was really gripped by:
After the Party
Blue Lights
The Tower
Ludwig was, I thought very entertaining.
I saw State of Happiness when it was first shown and found it very interesting and the characters believable.
I recently watched DeptQ and it was gripping, but I don't think I will watch it again as there was too much very graphic violence.
I like the idea of a Film Club that someone suggested - similar to a Book Club.
Anyone else watching Destination X on BBC1? Or The Veil on, I think, Channel 4? Both interesting in different ways. One definitely more relaxing than the other.
I am enjoying Bookish after a so- so first half hour.
Loved Ludvig and can’t wait for the next series
Very gentle but watchable is Whitstable Pearl.
Series 3 just on.
Watched ‘Untamed’ on Netflix. Lovely scenery , but another’cop’’ with issues.
Finished ‘Yellowstone’. We found it compulsive watching , but very violent in places. There is a series 5, but not in the UK yet.
We give up on so many series after one episode, Suspicion and The Last Anniversary being the most recent.
But we’re currently enjoying the new Karen Pirie. That Val McDermid can always be relied on to spin a good yarn, and the cast is excellent.
I didn’t want Outrageous to end, but the good news is it looks set for a second series.
Recently watched Untamed on Netflix, it’s set in Yosemite National Park so the scenery is beautiful but the storyline and characters are good too.
Followed that with The Loch set by Loch Ness an intriguing murder mystery with again stunning scenery.
We both loved Dept Q and recommended it to my DD she loved it so much she watched it all in one day!
The Gilded Age is brilliant although you can’t binge watch series 3 as it’s one episode a week now ( drives us mad) Also teenage granddaughter has us watching The Summer I Turned Pretty, it’s set in America but it’s wonderful
I couldn’t get into bookish but liked Ludwig.
Enjoyed Karen Pirie.
If you like gangster dramas che snout Underbelly on Prime. An Australian series. I'm throughly enjoying it. It's a bit different from American gangster series or films. A lot of it is based on true life too. It shows different eras too which makes it onteresting. Some of the episodes has brilliant music a mix of blue and rock. Kind of reminded me of Peaky Blinders music. Give it a try.😊
I recently watched two series of The Jury on Netflix, both very good especially series two with Julie Walters as the Defence barrister.

Yes this was good, series starring Sam Neil usually are.

I found The Last Anniversary very good as it progressed, I did find it confusing at first because of the back and forth in time and trying to work out how the characters related to each other. By the time I had finished it I had enjoyed it so much I recommended it to my daughter-in-law.
If you like something quite gritty I'd recommend these two, Long Bright River, Channel 4 and Under The Bridge ITVX. I've stuck with them, which is good for me I dump so many after a couple of episodes.
I found BBC4 repeating Stephen Poliakoff's wonderful Shooting The Past last night. I think it joins Talking To A Stranger and Wolf Hall as one of the best ever TV dramas.
Discovered Normal People on BBC I Player. When I saw that it was a BBC 3 programme I nearly did not bother but I can't get enough of it.12 half hour episodes.

Thanks for this. I still remember it from all those years ago and relish the chance to watch it again.
Just watched 'The Gathering' on Netflix. I found it quite a good watch which highlighted a lot of issues. 6 episodes.

I loved it, too. I’ve always had a fascination with old photographs. It reminded me of a short film I’d seen on tv called The Shutter Falls which I always wanted to see again and I found it on utube recently. I often wondered if it inspired Poliakoff to write Shooting the Past.
