windmill I think that's a rather snobbish comment. There are plenty of people with "old money" who are equally obnoxious.

and probably also committed all sorts of fraud in theis debacle. Not excusing Mone, but I am sure there are others!

I'm waiting to see if anyone is prosecuted.

Who was it who rearranged Bible quotes to say " Take care of the poor and the needy. The rich and the greedy will take care of themselves "?

I understand that Ms Mone's assets have been frozen ( £75 million).
We don't know how responsible/ involved this woman and her husband were in the MedPro mess, but what struck me is the implications of huge monies to be made.
I never fail to be surprised how the very, very wealthy seem driven to want more.

The epitomè of Nouveau Riche and the vulgarity that goes with it.

I'm surprised that Bill Gates hasn't used a little of his vast wealth to have a few voice lessons to stop him sounding like Kermit the Frog.
Still, if he's donating billions to countries who need it - good luck to him.

I always think money makes nice people nicer because (a) that’s their nature and (b) they can afford to be (even more) generous.

Arses are just arses - with or without money.

IMO.

Yes, I agree.

You don't need to apologise. I don't think Gates is a saint. The article you quote states he gives away a tiny amount of money but its what "he could never possibly spend on himself ". Which was exactly my point. So thanks, Petra.

I’m sorry to be the one to burst your bubble but Bill Gates isn’t the saint he wants us all to believe he is.
He still has a personal wealth of $184 billion.
He’s very choosy in who he donates to and those donations come with ties.

I didn't see this but they have donated to and started charities, one of which is under investigation, I understand.

MollyNew I have to ask - are you a Wolves fan? 😃

It was a really interesting documentary wasn’t it? She was certainly a very driven person and not happy either.

ViceVersa Fri 30-May-25 17:07:20

She's a thoroughly nasty piece of work. I happen to know two people who worked for her at various points in the past, and both said she was a nightmare to work for.

I watched both episodes of this documentary this week, I thought it was very entertaining and well researched. One comment by Baroness Mone's husband summed up all that is wrong with immense wealth. He was talking about buying a yacht and said "well you've got to spend it on something". If people like him have so much money they don't know what to do with it, surely they could give some of it away? Some people don't even have a bicycle or a small car, let alone a yacht. I'm not suggesting they give all their money away but this scene in the documentary showed how some obscenely wealthy people have lost touch with reality. At least there are still a few philanthropists left such as Bill Gates, who see the world beyond the grounds of their mansions.
