Eastenders - what have I missed?

Just doing my normal catching up all in one go - I was about 2 weeks behind, now I'm up to last Thursday.

I must have missed something - how did Stacey manage to -

- get a credit card given she's never got any money?

- even better, get a credit card with apparently a credit limit in the thousands?

- find the money to rent a flat in London?

And how does Alfie decide to go to Australia in the morning and gets a flight in the afternoon? Have the Australian government relaxed via requirements just for him?

And how does he know where Zoe is? Maybe he's going to hire a private investigator paid for with Stacey's new found thousands.

I know we have to suspend reality a bit in soaps but this is bonkers.

Honestly, I don't know why I do this to myself, I just get annoyed. I should stick to something way more genteel and possibly believable. grin

Nigel is so lovely. And the way Phiw has stepped up to support him is very touching too. I hope we don’t see Nigel get much worse (or die on screen), but that they send for Julie to come and get him.

Elaine is very annoying just now. How does she think she can boot George out of the Vic when he owns half of it? She doesn’t even win the moral argument, as she cheated on him. I know he’s not an angel, and his involvement with Cindy was a form of betrayal too, but they didn’t actually do the deed, whereas Elaine took the advice of her late husband’s gay lover (as you do) and picked up a man off the street. She may well have been hurting, but doesn’t exactly have the moral high ground, yet she’s giving away money, shouting her grievances to anyone who will listen (and to those who don’t want to), and drinking the profits. As for giving the punch to the children, that was so unprofessional - not to say plain stupid - that it beggars belief. Is she trying to ruin them all?

Sadly we did see Nigel die on screen this evening. I guess it had to happen that way, but the acting was actually very good and believable all round.
I found it quite moving.

I agree. That's a really useful storyline.

I don't understand why Tommy hasn't yet tracked Alfie & found out that he's in Spain rather than Oz. He was quick enough to find him in Stacey's flat. Love EEs, fantastic bit of escapism and, to be fair, they do cover some difficult topics as in the case of Joel completely falling for the Tate brothers view of women and gradually drawing in Tommy. This is what happens in real life & is so dangerous. Sometimes it needs a soap like EastEnders to really bring it home.

SueEH the idea is growing on me! I suppose it's not different from having an unofficial birthday, which we did once when the children were young, so we could celebrate in the summer holidays. As their real birthdays are in February.
I think the Joel storyline is good, he is getting Tommy to do bad things. Good actor too.

I’m confused about when Bernie reappeared and how she’s suddenly running the Panasar businesses. With Vicki as her sidekick. Surely the panasars would have someone more professional than Bernie

It was in Nish’s will, the businesses were left to his grandchildren with Bernie as Trustee until they reach 18.

Have you got to 'half Christmas ' yet? It's all bonkers at the moment!
I had never followed Eastenders until Neighbours was moved to a Channel l can't get. I miss Neighbours!

We have had Augustmas .. complete with turkey, crackers and presents. Usually held on the Sunday of August bank holiday weekend.

Aw I love “Extenders” as my dd used to call it when she was younger.

We both watch it together.

Yes the storylines are so unbelievable that it borders on fantasy mostly but that’s why we love it lol.

Sometimes we look at each other and say “okaaaay like THAT is ever going to happen!

It takes me out of myself not having to concentrate to hard. It’s escapism which I need right now after the 18 months I’ve gone through.

We both ”Suck it up” and have a good laugh 😹

I stopped watching EastEnders when Tiffany died. Wouldn't know anyone on it now.

I preferred Frank though. He was more fun.

Bazza Sun 29-Jun-25 18:12:17

Of course it’s George! Shows how confused I am!

Aveline Sun 29-Jun-25 17:59:37

George's daughters?

Re "Eastenders - what have I missed?" -- nothing worth wasting time over.

There -- hope that helps, now maybe go to the Library, get a few books out?

While you're there I suggest you go to the self help section and borrow a book about good manners.

Bazza Sun 29-Jun-25 17:43:40

What I want to know is what do Frank’s daughters think of the whole Elaine debacle? And when did Bernie become a monster? Have I missed something? I’ve always thought that it’s so dreadful to make us feel better about our own lives.

Maybe they will have to reach crisis point - it happens a lot.

Did Elaine help Linda buy the Vic from Janine? Possibly.

Yes, I have known of so many cases. My older brother took his wife back home time and time again in the first few years of the disease. One day, as he was gently putting on her cardigan, it must have hurt her. She beat him black and blue, with fists and with a heavy glass ornament- he finally screamed and the neighbour called police and ambulance and the caretaker of his block of flats who came to rescue him. She never returned home after that

Earthmother9 Sun 29-Jun-25 15:19:00

I always hoped they'd put Neighbours on Drama, I'd love to see it again from the beginning

But, it's Stenders!!

Agree about Nigel but keep wondering why someone doesn't think to contact a dementia charity.

Agreed, it would be good for the storyline to show others that specialist help ad support is available. At the moment, it is the only storyline that is worth watching.

henetha Fri 27-Jun-25 10:38:15

It is all a bit silly at the moment, but I just go with the flow.
It's not real life, and has to have some over-the-top story lines in order not to be boring.

tanith Fri 27-Jun-25 09:24:47

It is getting silly, why is Linda asking her Mum to sell the pub does she still part own it? If not she can just leave if that’s what she wants surely.
