Been an emmerdale fan for many years but am seriously considering giving up on it. Too many horrible characters, John,Robert and Joe , Nate’s murder , etc. no lighter moments , all doom and gloom.

BlueBelle Fri 27-Jun-25 04:25:26

I was late to Emmerdale only joined in about a couple of years ago but I like it better than Corrie now
You can’t have a daily or weekly programme with only good, kind, sweet people in it you ve got to have some baddies I think both Joe and John are playing good parts although some of the plots are so far fetched they aren’t probable, like the kidney business…. anyway I m sure John will be out soon
I feel so sorry for poor Sarah at the moment but an interesting storyline
Like all the soaps it’s changed and got deeper, blacker and less playful
I think both Corrie and Emmerdale have the same writers

Shelflife Fri 27-Jun-25 09:25:08

It is all doom and gloom! Glad I don't live in Emmerdale!!
The only positive thing is that we know the baddies will eventually get their
cumuppance.

Astitchintime Fri 27-Jun-25 09:32:27

And surprise, surprise………Sarah had to have an emergency hysterectomy last night due to complications during her routine surgery………copycat script writing following the Corrie storyline involving Dee Dee.
I get that the soaps are focussing on current topics to raise awareness but why do they have to copy one another?

ExDancer Fri 27-Jun-25 09:33:14

Its noticeable how similar the story-lines are to the Corrie ones. Emergency hysterectomies, dementia, drugs/cannabis plants/etc
Do they share writers?

Shinamae Fri 27-Jun-25 09:47:16

My favourite soap and has been for many many years….
I used to watch Coronation Street but found that boring and switched to EastEnders which certainly is not boring 😂

Nannee49 Fri 27-Jun-25 11:56:19

Another here preferring Emmerdale to Corrie (even if it is from over the Pennines! wink)
Some storylines have been beautifully and touchingly handled - I'm thinking of the April/Dylan storyline, a bit repetitive at first with the search for the young runaway but very well handled imo showing the horror and hardship of living on the streets but also the kindness and love found in such dire circumstances. Brought a tear to my eye.

I stopped watching Corrie a couple of weeks ago.
Emmerdale may soon follow.

fancythat Fri 27-Jun-25 11:59:06

My kids dont watch it either.
Not that many people do nowadays. Compared to years ago.

BlueBelle Fri 27-Jun-25 13:01:45

Astitchintime and Exdancer
I believe it’s the same company of people that write the script for both Corrie and Emmerdale They obviously aren’t clever enough to think of different stories
We now have Bear getting dementia same as Debbie

Children and grandchildren don’t watch tv at all fancythat they view everything on their phones or computers
My grandson bought a big TV but he only uses it for games mainly football games

The Woolpack is my local !!

Earthmother9 Sat 28-Jun-25 15:00:57

Poor Sarah is a horrible character are teenagers really like that now?

Knittypamela Sat 28-Jun-25 16:00:07

The writers should buy trashy magazines (Take a Break, Chat). They are full of ideas for storylines.

Grannynannywanny Sat 28-Jun-25 16:25:18

I gave up on Eastenders years ago but I’ve remained faithful to Emmerdale and Corrie. I roll my eyes most evenings at some of the outlandish storylines but I keep coming back for more.

I agree with other posters in thinking it’s the same scriptwriters for both programmes as they often have similar storylines. I suspect the Emmerdale scriptwriters were sampling some of the Corrie hallucinogenic drugs when they wrote the crazy kidney kidnapping storyline for Emmerdale 😀

Macerena Sat 28-Jun-25 17:12:59

Tell me more please Susique62 smile

Macerena Sat 28-Jun-25 17:13:47

I didn't mean the word smile - it was supposed to be a happy face

BlueBelle Sat 28-Jun-25 17:13:50

Granny they are the same production team and writers
Some of the storylines are ridiculous but I still look forward to watching them both but agree many are so far fetched and quite ridiculous
I’m like you I gave up on EE years back but can’t imagine why I keep looking forward to watching Corrie and Emmerdale but I do

2020convert Sat 28-Jun-25 18:36:04

I’ve sampled the ale out of a jug in the original Woolpack. No beer pumps, outside toilet.
There seems to so little “follow through”
Car accident - people died! Where’s the investigation. Even if she, ultimately, wasn’t responsible Charity was at the wheel and surely should have been arrested. Etc etc etc

FranP Sat 28-Jun-25 19:02:54

They are all miserable. Stopped years ago.

BlueBelle Sat 28-Jun-25 19:36:17

How funny to be on a thread about something you haven’t watched for years !!! As my grandad used to say ‘nowt as queer as folks’

Grannynannywanny Sat 28-Jun-25 19:49:47

I wasn’t keen on Robert’s character years ago. But I’m really enjoying him now he’s returned to Emmerdale and getting under John’s skin.

jocork Sun 29-Jun-25 02:26:51

A friend of mine recently bought a TV istings paper for her mum and was commenting on how miserable the characters pictured on the front looked. I said that bearing in mind some of the current storylines I wasn't surprised they looked miserable. She said she would add smiles in felt pen!

Buttonjugs Sun 29-Jun-25 10:07:12

I watched all of the soaps for years, Emmerdale and Corrie since the seventies. I got fed up with Eastenders first and stopped watching a few years ago. I found I just wasn’t enjoying the other two and questioned why I was watching them if I wasn’t enjoying them so I stopped about 18 months ago. Glad I’m not the only one!

Emmerdale has just got silly hasnt it. I agree about doom and gloom but even when they try to address difficult issues they are daft! They even turned what could have been a difficult but strong storyline on child abuse into yet another murder story. How much more powerful it would have been to have really looked at the emotions of that with Ruby's father in court etc etc. I assume they were trying to address "issues of the day" but instead it was just one of the unbelievably frequent murder stories. And John is just a repeat of the Drs mad sister killing people a few years ago 🙄

And now another horrible and unbelievable person . Celia !!!
