new series Of Ridley..

I find it easy Sunday evening viewing, not overly violent or a complicated plot line.

Dishwasher whirring, full tummy from dinner, collapsed on the sofa with a glass of wine (a very large one if we have had family members over for dinner)…

Overall I think that the stories so far haven't been as interesting as those in Line of Duty.

I've watched it but am not keen, and particularly hate the singing! It's the sort of programme that I'll watch if I can't find anyting else.

I had to make myself continue watching as it was rather dull but as soon as he started singing I switched off. I remember it from last time and its not my type of music at all. Shame really as I like a good crime drama.

I thought the first series was ruined by all the mooning over his dead family and his dull singing. I find this series, which I binged, much livelier, except his singing…he does have a nice voice, but all that mournful jazz… he did sing one musical theatre song but slowed it to a dirge… if only he could have sung more Kiss me Kate ! Overall I’d give the series 6/10, but I didn’t dislike it. ( yes I realise it is supposed to be a Jazz club, but a lot of Jazz is very lively!)

Oh I’m sad to see all the negative. I’m enjoying it. Love Adrian Dunbar…..it’s easy watching

knspol Sun 17-Aug-25 13:54:03

I never saw the first series but watched this first episode and it was easy watching, no idea he could sing? I'll probably watch the whole series now, not great but worth a watch.

I'm with you, Luckylegs in my critique of Ridley. We watch it because DH seems to like it (but fast forwards through the singing). The one thing that irritates me is that he gets away with murder going off on his own to investigate even though he isn't a police officer. I also don't like his tone in the interviews he does with suspects. It really grates on me.

Luckylegs Thu 14-Aug-25 11:53:41

I like Adrian Dunbar and it is a very easy watch with not too much difficulty in following and hearing but does he have to sing in EVERY episode? And it’s all slow and quiet sort of modern jazz which I hate anyway! He always comes in the bar, talks to Julie Graham (who must be bored out of her mind with the script), sings then leaves to solve the mystery. A bit samey for me.

It's so boring and so like so many similar police dramas. It's actually irritating when I consider how many excellent books I've read and which would be great if televised.

StripeyGran Wed 13-Aug-25 09:45:05

It's OK and the level of violence is about all I can handle. Some things were downright disturbing eg Luther.
God knows, I don't need more horror in my head.

I really enjoyed Ridley and I think he has a very good voice. He played the main role in Kiss Me Kate which was in the West End all summer. It's funny how we are all different. The scenery around the Pennines was glorious.

I be given up

The episode wasn't about a child abduction though, it was about a jewellery robbery?

Oh dear! I wonder what I was watching then… 🤦‍♀️

grandMattie Tue 12-Aug-25 09:00:05

It's my first viewing but I wasn't that impressed - a bit leaden, both storyline and acting.

Dull and boring.

And no trace of the baby Jesus and the donkey

I kept saying to DH "This must be a repeat, I've seen it before".
He said I couldn't have, it's a new series. confused

Then I found out it was on Prime last year. It's ok, but it's not exactly Line of Duty and I don't understand why the nightclub and singing is necessary.

I also kept wondering if I’d seen it before because the “child snatched from the caravan park while mother awol” plot seemed familiar. Anyone else?

We’re just watching the first series again before we watch the second. I find it a reasonable watch, nice and slow that doesn’t take much concentration.

I read recently there may be another Line of Duty on the way.

hope so, I've just finished watching all episodes of L O D

Lemsip YES! Bring back the Bill

Eloethan Mon 11-Aug-25 20:32:10

I think Adrian Dubar is a wonderful actor - and was an absolutely pivotal character in Line of Duty.

But I watched the first series of Ridley - at least I saw some of it, none of which I can now recall - and I thought it was deadly dull and didn't do his talents justice.

The I newspaper said something similar today. I won't be watching it.

bring back The Bill, that was better than this!

I loved The Bill🥰

Samsara1 Mon 11-Aug-25 15:32:25

Disappointing. We looked forward to it but it was just miserable and depressing. I don't understand why the police with their finite budgets would invite a consultant in on a job they could have coped with themselves. We will carry on watching but I'm not staying up for it.

Clawdy Mon 11-Aug-25 15:10:18

Not great, but will carry on watching. That singing was a bit odd! Like Shayne Ward in Good Ship Murder, but Shayne was a good singer!

Dull and boring.

And his Singing.. that's not good.
Overall very disappointed with last night's episod. I did read it was written by the team that did "Vera". Think they had a bad day?
