Brilliant. How corrupt can you be and still be in power.
Why am I amazed.

Kate1949 Thu 25-Sept-25 16:18:12

I agree. It was brilliant. What an actor David Tennant is.

keepingquiet Thu 25-Sept-25 16:18:20

Watched the first episode.

How corrupt is the media?

Even more so now- just different faces but Murdoch still has his empire and people still buy his papers. Some people even still read them...

Not me, never have, never will...

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely , I paraphrase but the maxim is so very true.
Thought "The Hack " was excellent, at the time felt Rusbridger was very brave,.

Oh no! Very much looking forward to it but what a disappointment! Turgid writing from Jack Thorne, slow and confusing. Sorry, was very bored. It was full of stereotypes - not real people - I mean his wife!

Yes, I agree, Eyeore and jdotj.
Interesting because I remember the story breaking, but elliptical dialogue and stereotypes for characters.

GANNET Sat 27-Sept-25 14:29:54

Sadly I have to agree even Toby Jones wasn’t enough to keep me engaged.

Colls Sat 27-Sept-25 14:51:41

Fantastic. It's a comlicated story, not as straightforward a story to tell as the Post Office scandal.
I hope people take away that ANY 'news' is suspect. Not just legacy media but the newer online 'XX News' etc.
Follow the money always of course, but, just criticising the BBC does not mean any old channel is accurate.
But excellent series I thought.

.

I am a long-time subscriber to The Times and the Sunday Times - although that might end soon as on 1st October they're increasing the annual subscription to £360!!

Oddly (!!) there was no mention of 'The Hack' in either journal - whether as previews or as reviews. Not a sentence. Not a word. For a prime time drama! And on one of our two major broadcasters (ITV).

The editors must be really scared stiff of their boss, Rupert Murdoch!!! Wonder why?!

I didn’t like it so didn’t continue past the first episode Can’t be bothered to watch something that doesn’t grab me I don’t like David Tennent as an actor either but thought I d give it a go
Not for me

keepingquiet Sat 27-Sept-25 15:28:14

I thought it was excellent- intelligent and informative and not a little bit scary.

I remember the Daniel Morgan case and how much the family suffered, so I thought the way the stories interwove was really very clever.

Some great actors in this too, including David Tennent, although I found Toby Jones's wig to be a distraction.

I just wish there was more of this on TV just now...

SaxonGrace Sat 27-Sept-25 15:33:52

Totally agree Eyeore, not a Tennant fan anyway but thought I’d give it a try, shan’t bother with the rest.

Happygirl79 Sat 27-Sept-25 17:56:46

I really couldn't get past Toby's absolutely ridiculous wig!

I actually found it quite boring and gave up after episode 2.

Its a shame because there were some good actors in it.

Pains me to say it , great fan of Tennant and Toby Jones that I am but the first episode was very wooden.
Don't know if I'll try the second.
If I do I'll have to watch it in my own time because the OH was bored stiff......

Jane43 Sun 28-Sept-25 13:31:51

I’ve watched the first episode and was very impressed, especially with David Tennant, coincidentally I had just watched The Escape Artist in which he gave another brilliant performance.

I can also recommend The Loudest Voice which is a series showing how Fox News was set up, Russell Crowe stars as Roger Ailes who set up Fox News, a thoroughly nasty piece of work and Murdoch is featured as well.

Parsley3 Sun 28-Sept-25 16:06:28

I am well into this series on the STV app. It is certainly not light entertainment but an eyeopener about the level of criminality that was involved in the phone hacking scandal. I have just reached the episode where evidence is found of the phone hacking of the parent of one of the girls murdered in Soham and then Milly Dowler. It's sickening.

We’re thinking of unsubscribing from The Times. We switched from it when we realised how right wing The Telegraph had become, then The Independent changed ownership I think. Not sure what to do…

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 28-Sept-25 18:27:21

Interesting, Barbadosbelle...

Elizabethlovejoy Sun 28-Sept-25 18:29:39

We are thinking of switching too. I read the guardian and the independent and I'm am finding them both more balanced than the times now . The times becomes more like the telegraph every day now

sue421 Sun 28-Sept-25 19:15:02

I was looking forward to this however it soon became boring, I don't like the way it has been presented. David Tennant is a wonderful actor but in this instance no

What I’ll miss is Caitlin Moran who I’ve followed ever since she wrote for The Observer.

Me too couldn't get into it at all

Chocolatelovinggran Mon 29-Sept-25 19:59:22

I'm enjoying it. I had no idea that Jacqui Hames, formerly of Crimewatch, was targeted - poor woman, a total nightmare.
It seems that Rebekah was found not guilty of charges brought, but she did resign.
Oh, and then was rehired at a higher level in the same organisation..

Horrifyingly gripping. So many trying to do good and so many more supporting evil. Resulting in a worthless ultra expensive inquiry whose recommendations were ignore.

Here's a good summary of where we are at.
