She was 96 and had a very long and productive life. I particularly liked her in the detective series, Hetty Wainwright.

How sad, she certainly was a fantastic actor, so believable in everything she did. I hope there’s a tribute programme to her on TV. RIP Dame Patricia.

She was an ACTRESS!!!

How rude, do you often express yourself in this offensive shouting manner?

The Guardian. Today

“Patricia Routledge, the stage and screen actor best known for starring as Hyacinth Bucket in the BBC sitcom Keeping Up Appearances and Henrietta “Hetty” Wainthropp in the television series Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, has died at the age of 96.”

It is quite acceptable to describe female acting professionals in this way.

When I am expected to quietly accept woke rubbish then I am very shouty and will continue to be so.

It's perfectly acceptable nowadays to say actor when referring to a female. Either actor or actress are used..

Not by me. I do not buy into this woke nonsense. Men are actors and women are actresses. I wouldn't mind knowing Dame Patricia Routledge's opinion on this. grin

RIP, thank you

No more "Candlelight Suppers" then Hyacinth.
RIP Dame Patricia.
Lovely to see someone live to such a grand old age.

Well it’s not acceptable to me!
Men are actors and women are actresses.

So sad to hear that this fine actress has died.

Every time anyone talks about a house with a large garden I always think ‘with room for a pony’ !

And everyone knew a Hyacinth! grin

My late mother in-law was just like her, she even had her build and wasn’t unlike her in looks either. Scary!

Such a wonderful versatile actress. They don’t make them like her these days. Loved her in so many parts she played and oh yes those facial expressions. A sad loss to the acting world.

RIP Dame Patricia

A wonderful and talented lady dies and all some people on here can do us bicker about whether she was an actress or an actor.
Some people are seriously weird!
It’s as though they don’t really care that she has died. They just see it as an opportunity to make a point! I wish they would grow up!

Say no more.

I’ll always say actor / actress

It’s so sad that another great actress and comedienne from the past has died. I am just glad she lived as long as she did. She brought a lot of enjoyment to many of us.
They broke the mould when they made her!
Rest in peace, lovely lady 💐

It's not acceptable it's rude and disrespectful
The woke brigade think it makes them sound with it. Dame Patricia Routledge was an actress and a brilliant one. Read what the equally brilliant Maureen Lipman has to say on the topic.

Extremely talented lady in so many ways, straight acting, musical theatre etc and of course the never to be forgotten Hyacinth. I believe she did a lot for charity as well
RIP Dame Patricia you gave so much pleasure to so many people.

She was an ACTRESS! She was female. Taking into account Dame Patricia's age I very much doubt she fell for this wokey nonsense and called herself an actor. Show some respect for this fine woman

AGAA4 Fri 03-Oct-25 13:33:28

Dame Patricia was truly talented. Her timing and facial expressions were spot on to get the best laughs as Hyacinth Bucket pronounced as bouquet.

I always enjoyed Patricia Routledge's many roles.
I particularly enjoyed her On Talking Heads written by Alan Bennett. Wonderful actress. RIP.

I absolutely loved her. She was so talented. Did people see her singing 'I love to sing in opera'? Beautiful singing but still with great comedy timing.

RIP Dame Patricia. We have lost so many great actors recently.

Fantastic actress.
Absolutely loved ‘keeping up appearances’

Fabulous actress, loved her in Keeping up Appearances and Hetty Wainthrop. We all know a Hyacinth! She was lovely on the VE Day celebrations talking to Sophie Raworth.

Oh I loved her in that. My friend is just like her, I feel like the nervous neighbour around her, ha.

MollyNew Fri 03-Oct-25 11:36:43

I loved her as Kitty in the Victoria Wood show. A special talent, she'll be missed.
