I agree with you. A very distinctive voice. Having a recent sort through old CD's and DVD's, I found an Alan Bennet Talking Heads. Patricia Routledge is one of the actresses performing a monologue so I now have it in the car and have listened to it quite a few times.

I’ve been rewatching Hetty Wainthrop the past couple of weeks. Far more edgy and still relevant than I remembered it.

I’ve never watched Hetty Wainthropp but it popped up the other night when I was channel hopping and I found it really charming. Going to dip into a few more episodes. What was funny was that they were redecorating a room and getting rid of the ‘old fashioned’ G Plan furniture which is now highly sought after by lovers of mid century classic furniture!

That's interesting! I am watching it as an antedote to the appalling news.

Little things I notice like them waiting for the second post. How brown the decor was, lots of good actors and actresses and of course Dame Patricia with her wonderful face and voice.

'Hetty Wainthrop investigates' was on when my son was a wee boy. It always amused me when he and his friend Gordon went out to play at Hetty Wainthrop. I'm not sure which of them played the lady!

She played a teacher in ‘To Sir With Love’ many years ago.

I didn’t realise she was in that film, or Corrie.

I too loved her as Hyacinth Bucket. She was an excellent actress and I especially liked her facial expressions - they really made me both cringe and laugh. She will be much missed.

Taking a step back, this discussion about actors/actresses is a very Hyacinth Bucket one, isn’t it, I can quite imagine her introducing it as a topic of conversation.

If I were a lady who was famous for being on the stage or in films (not ‘movies’), I would far rather be described as an ‘actress’ not an ‘actor’.

It just sounds so much more imposing and grand.

It's the female equivalent of actor, isn't it? Glad to see the BBC described her as an actress last night. Yay!

Could this be her best quote? "If there's one thing I can't stand it's snobbery and one-up-man-ship. Women who try to pretend they're superior. It makes it so much harder for those of us who really are!"

What a wonderful woman she was, so versatile, from Coronation Street to Shakespeare, Talking Heads, Hettty Wainwright and, of course, the inimitable Hyacinth Bucket!

We watched an episode on BBC this evening. Thank you for the memories.

I watched the tribute episode tonight. You forget just how funny they were.

Ah, the hand painted periwinkle’s, such a lot of pleasure to so many people, what a wonderful way to be remembered.
