It is an incredible 50 years since Queen released Bohemian Rhapsody- a classic in modern rock/popular music.

Recorded at the iconic Rockfield Studios, it stayed in the charts at Number 1 for nine weeks and is played by classical musicians too.

I love the song and Queen, I remember when it was released and how long it stayed in the charts - I listened to Sunday night chart rundown on the radio most weeks back in 1975.

Agree Sam Ryder and BBC concert Orchestra cover is brilliant. Anybody that wants to watch/listen it's on Brian May's website

I love Bohemian Rhapsody. Reminds me of when my son was 11 at secondary school. The music teacher was given a bet that she could not get a choir of boys to do this song justice. She took the bet on.
The boys practiced and the night we went, they had parents looking round the school. The song was performed even better than she anticipated, the parents were all on their feet at the end and the applause was deafening. I remember tears rolling down my face, it was a experience I will never forget.

I saw them in 1977, also went to the Freddie Mercury tribute concert in 1992, sore arms from Radio GaGa.

I love Queen.
I loved the late , great, Freddie.
I also love the Badger - hero, guitar-maestro astro-physisist Brian May.
I like Sam Ryder.
I am , however , devastated to say that " Bohemian Rhapsody" is a song I detest.....
Off to the bunker.
(I also hate "Total Eclipse of the Heart"......)

I've just listened to Sam Ryder singing it and it's very nice..
But, in my opinion, not as good as Freddie. No-one is as good as Freddie, not even Adam Lambert who does have a spectacular voice.

Mt61 Sat 01-Nov-25 11:03:24

Nobody will ever sing it the way Freddie sang it, imo.

Witzend Sat 01-Nov-25 10:52:21

A favourite of mine (apart from BH) is Don’t Stop Me Now - but sadly a sort of foreshadowing for Freddie.

Kate1949 Sat 01-Nov-25 10:43:54

It is. The organisation of it is mind boggling. I think my favourite Queen song is These Are The Days Of Our Lives.

I loved Queen and Sam Ryder. Has anyone seen the Bohemian Rhapsody flash mob in Paris on YouTube? It's great.

It is fabulous!!

So many to choose from.
I'll play some tomorrow but still won't be able to decide.

Perhaps We are the Champions πŸ€”

It's not my favourite Queen song, that would be Love of my Life. I think that was from the Night at the Opera album. I saw Queen live in 1977.
I loved the film Bohemian Rhapsody about Freddie

My favourite is Radio GaGa as performed at Live Aid. I remember several artists performing rather lack lustre pieces than Queen came on and blew the audience away. When they sang Radio GaGa the atmosphere was electric and the crowd performed the clapping to order as well as singing along. This was peak Freddy.

Babs03 Fri 31-Oct-25 22:40:31

This song is almost operatic, suiting Freddie’s love of high drama, similar imho to Meatloaf.
These are musical performances.
Is up for discussion what the song is actually about, I assumed it was about a young man committing suicide, but others put a different spin on it.
In any case is a musical masterpiece.

Allira Fri 31-Oct-25 22:24:20

Yes, they were both from the same album.

Did anyone hear Sam Ryder's cover on Radio 2 - it was brilliant.

No, missed it, kittylester
I'll try to find it, thanks.

You can fast forward to the last song.

henetha Fri 31-Oct-25 21:37:13

Still as mesmerising as when I first heard it.
I still miss Freddie.

The original still gives me goose bumps.

It really does. It's amazing.

And was recorded in a studio on a farm!
