Went to see this yesterday, first visit to the cinema for a long time, and was not dissapointed. Written by Alan Bennett, so some great one-liners. Stellar British cast, including Ralph Feinnes, Mark Addy, Alan Armstrong, and wonderful scenery in West Yorkshire. Set in 1916 and very poignant, particularly with the approach of Remembrance Sunday. Would highly recommend.

Thanks for this. I’m going tomorrow, reviews mixed but I’m looking forward to it

Did see it advertised wondered if I would like it.

I’m going to see it on Monday, really looking forward to it.

Yes, we saw it recently - excellent!

I was going to go next Thursday with the U3a cinema group but we’ve just heard that The Choral is not going to be available until January. I expect I’ll have seen it by then.

We have just been to see it, Excellent film. Does anyone know where it was filmed please?

Mel1967 Sat 08-Nov-25 22:44:35

We saw it this evening.
Excellent film.
Made me cry.
Makes you realise how pointless war is 😥

Great to see these positive comments. I’m going this afternoon

It was filmed in West Yorkshire, mainly in the world heritage village of Saltaire. The railway scenes were filmed at Keighley and Worth Valley railway.

Thank you granfromafar! We usually sit through the credits and this information is inevitably right at the end, but I needed the loo so had to make a hasty exit,

Highly recommend this film

Went to see it on Sunday with a friend who sings in a choral choir. I don’t but we both loved it . I spent most of the time in tears . So very poignant and emotional, wonderful words by Alan Bennet. Recommend it thoroughly.

Unmistakably Bennett.
Quite a lot of themes and sub plots going on
made it slightly fanciful.
Recommended.

I saw this on Wed with my WI Cinema Club.
Dare I say, I didn't like it very much. I didn't care enough about any of the characters as no back story given for any of them and they seemed randomly cobbled together to make up the choir.

I hope those who've still to see it enjoy it more than I did.

We found this film very moving and poignant in many ways. Well worth seeing.

As I know all of the locations I had to see it!
I thought it was disjointed, lacked pace and that Alan Bennett is capable of a better script than this! The acting was good as were the sets but it just lacked something.
However, if you want to see an excellent film, I recommend “ I Swear” , the true story of a person with Tourette’s. It is absolutely brilliant!

I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will make its way over to the States. Love all things Alan Bennet, and as I was born and brought up in West Yorkshire I will also look forward to seeing the filming locations.

We really enjoyed it. It made me think of my late Nanny (as in Grandmother), she was born in 1900. What a different world it was then.

Thank you for the recommendation 😊

Saw this yesterday. Everything about it was wonderful.

I saw it yesterday and loved it, plenty of smiles at some of the funny lines and a lump in my throat at the end. To hear Alice Coote singing the Dream of Gerontius as the credits rolled was superb. Highly recommend

lovey to read all your comments. We very rarely go to films, but I'm hoping we'll to get to see it very soon - esp as my husband loves the Dream of Gerontius!! .

I saw a preview of it when we went to see 'Downton Abbey the Grand Finale.' We made a note to go and see it but we haven't yet. I must remind DH.
