Did anyone watch this last night? I thought it was so well done - Toby Jones has such a wide range as an actor, it's a pleasure to watch him in anything. Plus the lovely Lesley Manville.

I had no idea about Richard Burton's beginnings, it was fascinating.

I'm rather embarassed to say though, when I was scrolling through the programme guide, I thought I was going to watch a programme about the Head Teacher in Educating Yorkshire blushgrin

After reading such good reviews on here, I watched this film on iplayer and it really is very good. Some great acting. Obviously not totally accurate in it story - eg: he was not 'adopted', by Philip Burton, PB was made his legal guardian and agreement for this came from his biological father.

Back in 1956, I was 'doing' Henry V for GCE english. My school a 'drama school, was based in Marble Arch, a group of us would to Old Vic after school to see the different plays
Back then, there was two small rows of seats, either side of the Gods, where you needed to stand up to see the stage. So, these tickets were sold on the day for 1s.6d!!!!
I can remember John Guilgud and Richard Burton in Othello, where they changed the roles of Otherllo and Iago on a nightly basis. One side of those Gods seats tended to have the JG fans, and the other side those who favoured RB.

We were firmly in the Guilgud camp. I can also remember on the final night of Henry V we actually sat in the Stalls, as we could not get any other tickets, and a Dad of our of small group paid for us all to have these wonderful seats. We then took up our usual place at the stage door to see them all leave. Great times

Those were the days! I didn't see Richard Burton but did see other famous actors when we went with school to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre at Stratford-upon-Avon. Such a privilege.
